Avatar - The Movie

Unread post by Mustafah »

i just got back home after i saw Avatar the movie. i must say the movie was awsome. Future warfare VS Aliens(lol, the Aliens looked like Draeneis!!).. i got alot to say about the movie but i wont. i want to focus on another thing. There were really cool beasts in there i wanted to tame. >.< some cool dino's and stuff. more impressive were the mounts on it. There were ground dinos looked like horses, and flying mounts(They looked like Dragonhawks but were dinos)hehe i thought it would be awsome to see mounts like that in WoW.

It's an awsome movie, you must see it(if you didn't saw yet).

Haha, the entire movie I was the most excited about the awesome alien creatures. ^.^

I love the movie itself. I know a lot of people were complaining that the plot was weak and overdone, but I didn't care at all. I was still entranced and it reminded me of Fern Gully which was an old favourite movie of mine. The graphics were just mind blowing and I can't wait to see it again. :D

Yeah, speaking of graphics, i saw the movie on 3D. i saw many movies on 3D, so i wasn't really excited, but i must say the effects and the animation were really good. The story was awsome too. Thinking of the aliens, they were Hunters. Bows and knifes.... and they contacted the beasts, they were close to WoW hunters(looks almost same as Draenei, they are hunters "talking" with beasts). I wonder if the movie creators knew WoW, and maybe even used ideas from it(giant tree = nelfs, and the Draeneis ofc :P). It is a very good movie.

Someone told me, this was filmed with an "action camera", so the whole thing shakes and moves.
Like they did in Cloverfield.
That is so annoying. If this is true, I won't even bother to watch Avatar.

I found the movement really realistic, and I didn't mind myself getting dizzy or nauseated or anything. I watched it in 3D.

Everyone and his/hers own taste.

You dont need to listen to what people tell you, i heard the movie was suck before i saw it. but then i saw it and liked it. you cant to know before you see it. btw, its a very long movie, so prepare to it :P.(if you wanna watch it)

P.S, same, i watched it 3D. Must say the 3D wasn't amazing, but it was good.

I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was just amazing. Sure, the plot was relatively simplistic, and nothing drastically new, but the way it was filmed completely immersed you into the world, and I found myself caring a lot for the characters. The special effects were amazing- I have to admit, the geek that I am, I kept thinking of Zangermarsh with all the spore/glowy flora and fauna xD I loved it.

Lol, I was totally making WoW comparisons as I watched. xD I also thought of Zangarmarsh, and the floaty islands reminded me so much of Nagrand. :3

Lol, funny you should mention the Nagrand floating islands, because as we were watching it, my husband leans over and is like, "those are just like in Nagrand". Hahahah.. ah, nerdy. Fun.

Youre right, the flying rocks were like the ones in nagrand,i thought about it when i saw the movie. Actualy, many things in the movie are close to WoW, there was a mix of Nagrand, Zangarmarsh and Ashenvale, the Aliens were somewhere between trolls to draeneis, and the animations and effects were awesome. the story was weak, but the whole effects and animations coverd it.

Hehe I loved that movie too, the rain forest was so beautifully drawn in that one. The story was very good, teaching me that "progress" doesn't always mean "better".

Also it made you realize that in order to understand someone else, you had to be willing to walk with them in their world and not just consider everything from your own perspective.

Those are pretty important lessons for any kid (not sure exactly how old I was when I saw it tbh, young anyway) but I always remembered that one, which considering my awful memory is quite impressive ;)

Avatar indeed shares the same spirit as Fern Gully, and that alone makes it a wonderful movie. And then there's the awesome effects they used to make the alien forests come alive. Double win in my book!

Normally, I get VERY angry when people make movies with weak stories but fantastic effects. I know, this is pretty strange coming from me, who is studying 3D animation specifically--that's the kinda thing I'm going into as a profession, so why would it make me angry? But I'm also an avid reader and writer, and I tend to throw long ranty fits when I come out of a movie that clearly threw all their cash in the 'special effects' budget and starved their poor writers. Nine times out of ten I will tell you that NOTHING is worth filming, animating, etc without a good, STRONG story.

Avatar was probably the one exception to the rule. I wasn't skeptical while watching. I was completely immersed. Even with obnoxious teenagers behind me continually kicking my seat, I found I kept forgetting I was in a movie theater--the movie is completely immersive (and I didn't even see it in 3D). Not just the animation was superb, but I was totally blown away by an entire new ecosystem being created--not half-assed, like in a lot of alien movies, but a whole new WORLD was made. Especially with a whole ecosystem of symbiotic creatures....that was amazing.

The story was weak. Very weak. It's been done a hundred times and in that sense was completely predictable. But you know what? I didn't even recognize it and think about it until a good hour after we'd left the theater. It was THAT strong an immersion.

Kudos to Avatar, it did a lovely job :D

Youre right, the story was common and weak, it was in many movies before. but the effects, ecology, and animations coverd the story and maked the movie interesting. the whole scenery and creatures interested me. I never got bored on this movie, always was awake. and that's a two hours and 30 mins movie.(long for a usuall movie)I think it was even longer then Harry Poter 6 movie. or 5.

Just a quick side-note for anyone who's seen the film and is debating getting the game (also, my two-penneth, the film was incredible, 3D effects were insane, story whilst a little obvious was still worth the length of time, and overall, mind-blowing film) ...anywho, the game... probably best you dont >.< I saw it going for cheaper than normal in Game, and thought, "hmmm, it's a movie game, so it probably wont be that great, but then the film was that good, it must have some merit behind it..." but sadly, meh.. the graphics are again pretty good, and some of the action at the start is also quite cool, although the targetting system is a little naff, but then it got to the point where you climb up the cliffs to go get your very own dragonhawk....I mean, banshee :p and you think YEAH! awesome.. they fly like bags of sand :( I gave it a good go, but the continuous flying into cliffs and taking 5 minutes to steer and bump your way out of it made me put it down and not pick it up again, which in itself made me sad >.<
so tl:dr, film - awesome. game - not (inb4 it's a film game what did you expect :p)

The one thing I'm sad about is that I don't think I could ever watch this movie at home. There's just no way it would be the same on your TV.
