Green plaguehounds - EDIT - now tameable

Unread post by Jangalian »

EDIT - With the latest build, the green plaguehounds in Eastern Plaguelands can now be tamed. I checked each version and they all want to be collared, it seems.

The ones I'm talking about are the green magehunter, as such -->

Now, I know that the ones in the Eastern Plaguelands can't be tamed yet (quietly prays), but the ones that are called Trained Plaguehound in Howling Fjord can be tamed. Has anyone attempted this yet as a lowbie, or is it impossible? As an 85, you just run in and faceroll everything for your pet, but if anyone has worked out how to nab this spearmint beauty at his level, I would love to know.

Alliance can tame the Howling Fjord ones currently as they're hostile to them. In the Demon Hound thread someone posted about standing on top of their cage and taming one successfully.

I was taking relatively little damage as a level 75 so long as I didn't stand between the cages and get walloped by all the dogs and the guys at the same time.

But at level 55? I dunno. Being that you need to get right up on top of the cage, and that the cage is in range of a bunch of NPCs, I think it would be pretty tough. I don't think I have anyone in the right range to try it, though.

Having just walked through that settlement as an 80 on live, I can safely say that pulling aggro off everything is ridiculous at 80, so a level 55 would get roflstomped....unless a level 80 buddy cleared the place for them first.

What about positioning two of my toons there, and 85 to clear and a 55 to log on and tame? Hm, I shall have to attempt this. brb

That should work; I don't think the mobs respawn quite THAT quickly.

So far, having a rough time. Bagged one easily on my 85 that I used to test run with, but with a 57 lowbie, I found that I have to swim around the coastline from Daggercap bay, because every time I tried to ghost run and rez, it would suck me back to the spirit healer at the alliance bay. I logged out even!

So now it seems that I can't find a good spot to keep one of them from avoid evading, and doing it quickly enough to avoid the elite respawns. Argh.

There might be a possibility that's open to the Horde for taming this skin, albeit not a pleasant one. When I was doing "Battle for the Undercity" for the 6th time on live (yes, I have too many bloody toons), I noticed plaguehounds with this skin type running around the canal areas of the Undercity every now and then. I don't know if you can even do the quest line in beta, much less if they are flagged as beasts there, but if some poor brave soul wants to go find out, it might open up a slim possibility for Horde to get this type of skin.

Update: Mission deemed impossible at this time, due to bugged mob with heavy duty knockback. Seriously. He was kocking me back while I was on my drake. I'll wait a few days and try again.

The Battle for Undercity quest is being removed in Cataclysm, so unfortunately that won't be an option.

From a Hunter's perspective, not so many, really. Off the top of my head I can only think of Echeyakee being exclusively (barring friend, of course) before Winterspring was updated.

As a horde player, I'm still envious of the oil stained wolf skin (well, buff I guess).

But at least you CAN tame it, Anyia, with help. :)

The hounds in HF are friendly to horde, so it's completely impossible. :(

I can't imagine that the PL puppies won't be changed, though.

Horde get those cool Axe-wielding monkeys in Cataclysm. I think those are pretty unique; sure there's similar skins just like it available to all, but only the Horde-only ones are axe-wielding XD I think there's 3 skin colors that actually have the axe model (and since they have the same name, they may even also be color-changers!)

So Horde do get a fairly unique pet too, possibly 3 different skins of them even.

Also,
I would figure that this will probably change down the line. So far Blizzard has done well to minimize "faction only" pets. If these two (green plaguehounds and axe-wielding monkeys) are the only models left that are truly faction specific ones left, then I'd say Blizzard is fairing pretty well on trying to keep pets somewhat balanced.

The pickaxe monkeys? I thought those were in Deadmines, they're available to anyone iirc. :)

The last I heard, the axe-wielding monkeys are also in Deadmines, available to all. :) (Veph beat me to it.)

I never really see Blizzard making one skin exclusive to one faction. I had originally thought that was the reason Horde couldn't tame those sabers in Darnassas. I also remember those Sunreaver Dragonhawks a few patches ago. XD Blizzard didn't changed the tamed versions.
