dammit dammit dammit... router reset!

Unread post by Sukurachi »

I had to reset my router today because of internet problems.. and guess what?

Yeah, now Blizzard is forcing me to change my passwords on all three of my WoW accounts.
VERY stupid.

I don't WANT to change my passwords. I like the ones i have. My system is perfectly secure the way it is.

Wait, what?

Blizzard are forcing you how?

Was it in-game, and if not, are you sure it's a legit email, not a scam?

I'm sorry, I can't see how restarting your router could in any way affect your account security.
My DNSes go down a lot, I have to restart my router at least twice a day, and I NEVER had Blizzard sending me any mails about it, Also, I don't think they actually are aware of their users even doing it.
I think you are being scammed.

It might be that resetting the router caused his IP to get reset to something new. Every other Saturday, I play at a friend's house. The first time I was over there since the last patch, a window came up at the loading screen stating that my login patterns had changed, and that a password reset was required. I was very cautious, and checked everything to make sure it was legit. It was very strange to me that the message would come up on the login screen of the game itself. When she came over the next week to my house, the same happened to her.

It was legitimate. Some new security feature that monitors your common log-in IP's, I'd guess. It saw a new IP and locked my accounts down until I could change my password. Time consuming, but I'd rather change a password and know there's something in place combating hackers than have my accounts compromised.

Oooh, that's a very neat feature then...
I never heard of that before, so I apologise for incorrect statements I've given in the sate of unawareness.

yup, that was exactly it.

Now, unfortunately, I won't be able to do guild event tonight on my main server, because one of the toons I was dual-boxing is on my hubby's account :-(

I have to wait for him to call me from out of town, and so we can try and do the password reset over the phone.
Our three accounts are all under one single Authenticator.

Change the password to something else, log-in/log-out, then change it back. Anyway, regularly changing passwords is part of internet safety.
