The Many Uses of Feign Death

Unread post by VelkynKarma »

How do you use Feign Death? Can be both serious or non-serious reasons :D

Seriously, I find it to be very useful in PvP when I do battlegrounds. Sometimes newbs or people in a rush think you really died and lay off, allowing you to jump back and beat on them, much to their surprise. It's useful when pets/demons/ghouls get sicced on you, too.

Non-seriously, sometimes I 'die' in cities just to see what happens XD

Probably the most hilarious use of Feign Death occured in a BG I was in probably a year ago, Horde-side. We were waiting for WSG to start, and a blood elf hunter is chilling near by. All of a sudden he goes "Guys...guys, I don't feel so good...I really don't--AAGH!" and collapses to the ground. It was pretty amusing to envision this BE dying of a heart attack thirty seconds before the fight started.

My most fun use of it ever was also a bug. I feigned, and got mind controlled while feigning. So there's a corpse gliding around on the floor, inexplicably shooting people.

It's got uses in dungeons too. If, for example, there's an optional boss, I'll pull it, run towards the group, misdirecting the tank and then feigning.
And it's not as mean as it might sound, we haven't gotten killed yet. And usually, the DPS and healer is want to do it too. Stupid tanks...

I also exist on DeviantArt.

It's useful in MD pulls where more than one mob will be aggroed. Hunters die many times in those situations but doing MD and then a quick feign will save you. It's also very useful in BG's to get somebody else's pet off you. You can also use it when you're trying to run past groups of mobs to get to something you need. The most common use though is to just dump threat so you don't pull aggro off a tank, be it your pet or another player.

I'm still getting used to using it, so for practical reasons, it ends up being a last resort when my health's low and another mob of angry ghouls is heading in my direction.

However, soon after those horrific hearts appeared everywhere (I'm not a fan of this time of year), I was running to check my mail in Org. Someone threw their samples at me at the same time my mouse was freaking out, and I accidentally clicked on FD.

Death by chocolate samples.

Oh, I use it all the time.

In pvp, when I'm at low health, I can FD and then quickly disengage to further myself from my enemy...

In pve, I mix it into my rotation during AOE pulls, or when I go all out on bosses. Helps keep my aggro down :3

Or, if I'm being careless and my pet somehow dies while questing or the like, I just exit myself out of combat by feign deathing..

Sometimes if you're stuck in combat for no apparent reason, I use it to exit combat and mount up.

I also use it if I'm just messing around with friends, or if someone is taking too long for something... it is rather versatile for many situations.

I used it to shake off or reduce my agrro. It's handy when fighting ICK in Pit of Saron when he runs after you. I just pop the fake death and he goes back to the tank.

The best is when u get a horde hunter that uses it in Wintergrasp. I'm like u moron. You can't trick a hunter using there own tricks.

Well.. back when it used to kill you at the end of the six minute duration, I would use it to kill myself in places where there were no mobs near by so that I could ghost through a wall or door and res on the other side. Was quite useful for getting into hidden "keep out" kinds of areas. xD

Other than that I use it to reduce my aggro when it gets too high, drop aggro entierly if a fight goes sour, or in PvP so that my attacker loses me as the target for at least a moment.

Get a friend to use one of the JC made laser things on you, then FD. The reactions from tothers in the area are quite amusing. XD

I'm currently, and have been for a very very long time farming MGT for a phoniex non-combat pet. FD is part of my getting through the place as fast as i can. I dismiss my pet then run in guns ablazing with nothing more than my hunter tricks and a well timed FD.

I will freezing trap a mob, wing clip another, run like a bat out of hell into another large pack, pop deterance and run a bit further, jump and disengage myself across the room, and then FD in the corner. Wait till the bugger off and combat to end, then call pet out and /greet the boss. All with very little damage taken, 10+ mobs avoided and a hell of alot of time saved  I really
<3 FD!

Now.... if only he would drop my pet

I mostly use it for aggro reduction while going heroics and stuff but my favorite use is to press that key when I have been buffed and then whisper that guy and tell him my characer is allergic to that buff.
People with hunters will laugh, people who do not know hunters start to excuse and they didn't know...

my favorite FD is when I was in PvP. Here I was, nearly dead. Iorek was off chewing the face of some hordie, and a hordie decides to pick on me. So here I am, in the middle of AV in a battle, taking heavy fire. On a whim, I feign. The hordie stares at me, before running off. I promptly leap up and finish 'em off, though they got me as well.

THen again...that was the same BG I saw a pally bubble-hearth....>.<

I use feign Death to drop aggro, and if the group fails or 1 or 2 ppl go AFK for ages i misdirect on a cloth wearer or an AFK att a mob, Feign death and watch people die...Good times!

Well it isn't feign death, but on my rogue who is level 40, I was in scarlet monastary (sp?) and we were entering a building where if you aggro the boss, tons of mobs all come unless you kill them all first. The tank was being a jerk, so the healer and other DPS left just as I pulled the boss, brought him and all the adds back to the tank's AoE, vanished, and left

I don't have feign death on my hunter yet though, but when I get it, I will probably get a group or 3 killed with it.

I use it to save myself the pain of paying for repair bills when my group wipes.
...
And that's mostly it, unless I aggro crap I don't want to put up with. cx
