Rare Elites and people's attitude towards them.

Unread post by Adam-Savage »

So last night I had King Krush killed on me right in front of me.. I tell what I thought where friends and I get "lol".. I reply that I fail to see the humor in this at all. If they had killed this hard boss and he drops this sweet piece of gear you really wanted only to be out rolled on it or the raid leader simply not giving it to you. I don't think think you would be going "lol" then. It's the same concept really. These elites are not easy to find and it take alot of time and work to find one. So for someone to kill it on you is just rude and a few other choice words that I wont mention. I don't get people that seem to think stuff like this is funny.. It's not funny! :x

People kill them for the Frostbitten achievement.

And don't be fooled into thinking that the new Crystalline Tear of Loyalty will deter people from killing rare beasts in Cataclysm. If anything, it'll spur them on more so they can show it to hunters, to rub the proverbial salt.

THIIIIIIIIIIIS.

Actually, owning it and not being a hunter should give you a Debuff.

Crystaline Tears- you cruelty is hope shattering.

And they get something that haunts them like that haunted momento. That emotes, Looks at [class] with sad eyes, almost asking why?. And it is not vendorable :D

But Blizz probably won't do it <.< so...

Was Krush killed as you tagged/tamed it..? If so you could report your supposed little 'special' friend to a GM. As that's griefing tbh.

I had used my serpent sting on him to pull agrro but he reset when I feigned death so I wouldn't die. I just gotten up and my 'special' friend jumped on him and got the loot because he had reset..For reporting him to a GM ? They wont do anything. I reported this underground miner almost a month ago and I still see him online doing his thing.

Unfortunately sometimes you have to keep ticketing. And ticketing. And ticketing. Because some Game Mods do slack and overlook things. I had to report 4 basin farmers, and whats worse is three of them were farming river's heart when I was camping for Aotona on Rosalyn, about half a dozen times before I expressed it enough I was NOT reporting players because I was a hunter and they were 'farming' where a spawn I wanted was, I was reporting bots for farming in a zone where a rare could be; not only downing it befor where anyone who nwanted/needed it could get to it but also THEY WERE FARMING SENSELESSLY. Almost 17-20 hours straight every single damn day :/

A debuff would be nice like Ryai said. :P
Also, I don't know if one can compare this to griefing in wow, but, people who've never achieved anything "big" in their life, are subconsciously aware of it and try to drag others down with them (and usually not genuinely interested in helping anyone if they don't get something out of it in the process, preferably something that makes them look good).

I remember a friend of mine spotting Loque some time ago, only to have it killed by a bot. :( I think the bot has been banned now though, but he did reign supreme in Sholazar for a very long time.
Don't let it get to you. I really hope you'll get him next time. :)

I'm starting to.. Anyone who thinks it's funny or goes "lol" when u tell them what happened isn't someone I want to be friends with. I understand it's only a game but it's something us hunters work hard to get.

Sorry to hear that. Happened to me a few times at least. ><

Eh, a debuff for killing a rare pet would only make people seek it out, as it makes them feel more special, something to show off. The tear thing might deter a few away, but will draw in more. Problem is most people find it funny to ruin the game for people they don't understand.

Did you sit down (so to speak) and talk to the people that replied with "lol"? Most likely they don't understand how much it means to you, and dismissed it.

Still, kinda rude either way though.

Were they people you weren't terribly close to? That can happen in some guilds.

The general attitude by most players (mostly those who don't have a hunter or don't really care about their pets on their hunters) is often this: Tough crap, it's a cosmetic difference, get over it. My Achieve/Loot>Your Tame.

It's unfortunate really. I've had many debates with people who think that way, as well as had some long term guild mates/game friends who seem to shrug off. "Whatever, if I was there for my achievement points, I'd still go for it over letting the hunter get the tame." But the one that said that has also deleted two hunter toons he's levelled, so he has no love for the class.

I personally know better now, and would look for a hunter before killing one. Everyone will have their own feelings on this.
A non hunter thinks it's strictly cosmetic, but hunters know the intricate details of each pets abilities, benefits etc for each, pro's and con's, and how it matters to YOU which pet you have. A pet is fighting beside you every day, running next to you, of course you're going to be particular about which pet(s) you have, they are an intricate part of your toon.

I can go on to reasons why I think tamed pet>someones random achievement points. But...alas, it's time for me to go to bed and more than likely most of what I've said has hardly made any sense...so, goodnight. :)

Yeah, I have to keep ticketing bots. :/ There's a DK at the least and I took care of most of the Alliance bots. I wish you luck on your hunt. I'd help if I was on your server.

Made perfect sense to me....

To OP:You need to put those people on /ignore,guildies or not....no,seriously,how can you possibly run with people who don't take your class
as seriously as you do...do you make fun of the warlock for his pets? or the mage?...same thing,IMHO.

If anyone in my guild said "lol" after I told them of a griefer..BANG!.../ignored! Sorry, they aren't people I'd want to run with...

Good luck with your next tame...and be sure and let us know when you get him.

In my experience many, many wow players, including some who are otherwise nice people, have an underdeveloped or nonexistent sense of empathy - everything's "lol who cares lol" until something bad happens to them, and suddenly it's "OMG WTF !@#@#$ $%ity @#$ @#$%^ (etc etc)"

Sigh.

What I love about the Petopian guild and this forum, is that 99% of us know what its like for rares to be killed, since basically we all adore and love the hunter class.

People who don't play hunters, or only really know how to shoot a fireball, just do not understand what a thrill taming a "rare" is. I'm still hoping they make that Crystalline Tear of Loyalty sell for 25 copper instead. Make the pets more likely to be tamed.

I've encountered people like this and I agree that a buff would just basically encourage them.
I also have encountered people who have the "it's just a game lol" mentality. I know it is just a game not saying its anything more but the disruption of your play time while trying to prove the point "LOL its just a game" is just hurtful. They're basically stealing money. =O

I am sorry that happened to you, that sad part of it.. is that it happens alot. I personally hate that achievement with a bloody passion, Ive never willingly killed one of the shola rares on it, except Loque when I had no choice, the gnome was coming and I couldnt release my skoll for a pet I already have. The other achievement I got on Saon, I got when I had them tagged and someone came and killed it. Ill never.. ever.. understand the whole "oh but I didnt see it tagged" when.. if its grey to you, not attacking you, its TAGGED.

People who arent hunters wont understand the whole appeal to us hunters for a rare. When King krush was killed infront of me (yes I had him tagged to), he just said oh well its just a skin, go to Un goro and get one. I then had to point out to him that King Krush was a unique skin, that no other mob had it, and he then put me on ignore.

I still dont think that tear will detour people from killing a rare, even if they put it right on the WOW page, this rares only drops a grey, people will still kill it just to show that they can, and laugh at us.

I am hoping though, that it will detour atleast one person away. All in all, I am glad that blizzard decided to put that up for the new rares. Hopefully, itll help somewhat.

This is why I hope they do more things like Ghostcrawler....making it pretty much impossible to kill the rare to begin with because they hit hard and have a bajillion points of health. It'd be the only way to really deter pet ganking in the end :(

I have quite a few rare pets marked in my Frostbitten achievement....because of being in Petopian groups when we were hunting a pet together, were grouped, had it tagged for the hunter in question to come get it, and then some jerk kills it right out from under us. It was heartbreaking to see it happen for Krush and Aotona. It's funny, too; I've talked to a few people who did the Frostbitten achievements and never bothered to ask if a hunter wanted the pet first, until they rolled hunters and realized how bloody hard it was to get these pets. Now they have so much more empathy for the class.

Basically, you can't know how hard it is until you've been there. Until then, empathy is pretty hard to come by.

Hope you get Krush....with the Shattering, maybe it'll be easier to find him, since everybody'll be off exploring and rolling new toons?

Players hiding behind a digital Avatar, will have their true selves come out. Idiots in game are idiots out of game. SB will get less pop when CAT goes live 12/7/10. Remember its not if you get him but when.

Good Luck he'll be in your stable soon.

Yeah, people sometimes just. do. not. get it.

One of my guildies was saying last night something about killing rares. I mentioned there were going to be some really cool new rares, and I wanted to tame them, etc.

He is the type who likes to say outrageous stuff to get a rise out of people too, so he was likely at least half-joking, he's a helpful friendly sort in general, if a bit clueless sometimes.

Anyways, I mentioned they don't drop cool loot anymore and he said "Whatever, rares drop fun loot" and another person on vent backed me up and said the rares will only drop gray items that basically say "You're a jerk who just denied a hunter their pet, shame on you."

I do not know if this will keep him from killing a rare if he sees it, but it may make him look around to check for a hunter first perhaps. I am sure I will recruit him to watch for Terrorpene for me, he's online a lot more than I am, and I have resources that I may be able to use to my advantage to place him in my debt... muahahhaa (that's my Goblin side coming out a bit).
