I hate ninjas
Not naming names, not saying anything bad but I really need to vent...I don't even really know if I'm in the right.
I camp Ashtail for 30min and this NE hunter comes along and asks if I'm waiting for something, I reply "yes." And then she asks what for, "Ashtail," she drags out this long no~. Anyway rolling restart comes along and I sit there for an hour and a half, the other huntress clocking in a moment after me. I was there first, waiting for much longer than her when an hour and a half later after the restart; Ashtail spawns. Now isn't it first come first serve? I was there first so that makes him mine...right? He has a low spawn timer, I'd seen people in line yesterday and being quite friendly and saying "oh yeah I'll wait for him to respawn, you were here first you have him."
He spawns right behind me and I target him with a macro and am in the process of turning I see the tame beast symbol come below his portrait...what?...I am in such shock to see that she ninja'd me that I hit 'Arcane Shot' - maybe its my warrior temper that made me one-shot him I don't know.
Maybe I was wrong to think that but when you are on the same faction you let the first person who was there tame it, if someone of the opposing faction is there then you just have to grab 'em first and pray they are nice enough to let you have them...but that was not how this went.
She was...angry to say the least but I didn't care; she ninja'd me! Or at least I think she did...anyway we exchange words and I log on an hour later to find a horde BE there and her logging in right behind me. The BE seemed nice but I knew the NE wasn't going to let him have it, even if he was there first. I told her if she ninja'd him again I would just kill him...the response was: "same."
Anyway he was yet again killed and neither of us came out with him. I don't know who's wrong or who's right but I was told that if somebody of the same faction does that to you it is called: 'ninja'. /sigh

Re: I hate ninjas
If she camped there too, and she got the tag, it was hers. Maybe you were there first, but there's only one Ashtail and by killing it, all you have now is more competition.
She camped, other people camped, she got tag. I waited with plenty of others on Arccy (though he spawned at awkward hours and I was alone when I got him). It's not ninjaing if you have the tag. She wanted it, she camped. You wanted it, you camped.
I'm sorry, cause I know most people agree with you here, and not me. I guess I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Re: I hate ninjas
I like the idea of first come, first serve, but sadly it really doesn't work that way on my server. She tagged it first, you should have just let her have it-I would have been ticked and yelled my head off were it me, but still, by killing it you just ensured that she'd be there again and try to take it from you again.
*shrug*
I suggest setting your alarm clock and get up around 2-3 in the morning. I couldn't sleep last night and just camped there while working on a program for work. Got her after about a 40 min. wait, and I was the only hunter in the entire zone. Much less people on that alter at night-at least on my server there is.

Re: I hate ninjas
I can completely understand reacting before you thought about it.
With so many new creatures out, there's a lot of competition. I'm seeing some really friendly and helpful behavior from hunters - and unfortunately a lot of unfriendly behavior as well. It'll calm down eventually. In the meantime, the best we can do is try to stay helpful when we can - and vent when we have to.

Re: I hate ninjas
I think neither of you was /entirely/ right. She was wrong to wander up and go Noooooooooo~ at you, but then - when people kill a pet, everyone loses. I'd be a liar to say I might not snap if someone tries to take a rare from under me if I was there first and kill it, but. Now you just sit there longer with annoyed competitors. Her behavior was uncalled for, especially since you were there first but...

Re: I hate ninjas
I have to agree here, even though I think what she did was maybe a bit inconsiderate, and i definately understand where you're coming from, the problem is the more times the pet gets killed, the more hunters will be out in search for it.Raydex-of-the-dawn wrote:If she camped there too, and she got the tag, it was hers. If you would have just let her tame Ashtail (even though you were there first), she wouldn't have given you any competition the second time around.
Overall since she had the tag originally, I would have to side with her though, and I wouldn't consider it a 'ninja'.
Killing Ashtail instead of letting her tame it was overall a dbag type of move, sorry bud

Re: I hate ninjas
I got ninja'd again...this time it was another NE huntress [I'm starting to hate them in general now...even though I *really* shouldn't]. She came up and offered em 50G and I said "no I was ninja'd earlier so no way." He spawns right behind her and I start to tame, she kills him and skins him...I snapped. I cursed at her, even though I usually don't. She cursed too and said that I had ninja'd people earlier and I deserved what I got...when I didn't. I suppose it all depends on the perspective of which way you look.
Some people say "first come, first serve." Others say, "you tame it you get it..." I don't know anymore, looks like I got more camping to do... /sigh

Re: I hate ninjas
Yeah, NE hunters still tend to kind of make me twitch. I know they shouldn't and it's bad, but stereotypes die hard. I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck. You'll get him!
Edit: Yes, I am admitting a human failing. I have a friend who plays a Night Elf hunter/ress. Yes, they make me twitch most of the time because the vast majority of anything on WoW are goobers.

Yes, and I posted that my twitch was a bad thing, a terrible human failing because there ARE awesome NE hunters and I know a few. But most unknown NE hunters tend to make me kind of leery.Raydex-of-the-dawn wrote:...I'm a night elf hunter and I can honestly say I've never done anything bad D: Though with the stigma we get I've honestly considered faction transferring to Tauren.Novikova wrote:Yeah, NE hunters still tend to kind of make me twitch. Re: I hate ninjas
So you're saying it's okay for the newcomer to ignore the person who was waiting there ahead of her, yet the person who was there first should respect that the newcomer clicked "tame" first, and let her have it?Raydex-of-the-dawn wrote:If she camped there too, and she got the tag, it was hers. That's crazy - either common courtesy matters, or it doesn't. I'm not saying being there first auto-entitles you to the rare, after all you're both paying the same $15 a month, but if you choose to ignore basic social etiquette, it sort of follows that others will treat you the same way, and that's what happened here...
One shotting the rare with an arcane shot was childish, yes - but no moreso than if someone punches you in the face, and you in turn hit them back.
It all depends on whether you get more satisfaction from walking away and telling yourself that you "turned the other cheek", or from knowing that you gave the instigator a taste of their own medicine and didn't let yourself be treated like a doormat.

Re: I hate ninjas
By the way, this is why I don't camp - I log on, check, log off. Camping tends to lead to this sort of craziness.

Re: I hate ninjas
They didn't ignore them, but because there's only one spawn point it's ridiculous to assume only one person should be allowed to camp. Also, I believe they did whisper. Also, the newcomer had the tag - our OP hadn't tagged, and had only just targeted the mob (no mark or anything).Worba wrote:So you're saying it's okay for the newcomer to ignore the person who was waiting there ahead of her, yet the person who was there first should respect that the newcomer clicked "tame" first, and let her have it?Raydex-of-the-dawn wrote:If she camped there too, and she got the tag, it was hers. Re: I hate ninjas
Like I said, I understand that rares are a huge supply/demand bottleneck, and that not everyone is going to agree to "wait in line" - but you're saying the newcomer gets to have her cake and eat it, and that's what I am disagreeing with.
Manners are a 2 way street - if someone doesn't have time for them and would rather let the chips fall where they may, that's fine as long as they are prepared for the other person to also play dirty.

Re: I hate ninjas
WoW is an MMO, with all that entails.
People should probably stop worrying about what other people do/think/enjoy and just deal with it as it comes.
Only in a single player game will things be as perfect as you want, in an MMO it'll always be conflict, disagreements, fights, dissapointment and frustration with others, mixed in with the decent folks doing nice things they don't have to.
I really like this community (part of why I finally registered after all these years), but on some issues it sounds more like folks think WoW is a one-player-pet-taming game, not an MMO.
My 0.02 copper (offered with the caveat that I play EVE Online, where the MMO really is as dark, devious and distrustful as it's made out, and a trillion times more painful to lose things in than WoW could ever be).

I personally think you're in the right, that filthy Night Elf didn't deserve it, and killing it was justified.
But then again, I really loathe foxes, so I am biased.
But if you want it, beware of gankers and ninjas.

I think what it really comes down to is:
Be nice, or be ready for anything.
