Seagulls can fly!
I was leveling my newly tamed seagull, Skipper, last night when I got Utgarde Pinnacle as my random heroic. When the first boss (Svala Sorrowgrave) did her ritual, I noticed Skipper was still attacking without me having to send him after the ghost adds. I thought that was a little odd, but continued to shoot the boss since she was almost dead. When she died, while still high in the air during her ritual, I saw Skipper flying down towards me. He flew up with the boss to keep attacking her!
I decided to do some testing with his today and headed to the Stormwind Harbor. I aggroed some seagulls there to make them fly and sent Skipper after them. Sure enough, he flew right off the balcony after them. I tested this with my tamed Trachela, YinYang, and she did not fly after the seagulls, but instead followed the pathway until she was under them.
I'm curious to know if there are any pets, other than the seagull, that can fly and if anyone else's seagulls have this cool ability.
Here are some screenshots (Skipper may be a little hard to see, sorry.):

OH my god, that's AWESOME
I noticed that when I jump down off ledges, the seagull happily follows me down rather than running round--but I did NOT know they could *fly*!

It's the same with the undead eagles.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
Their flight animation seems a little stiff compared to some of the other birds (ie they fly strangely upright) but the fact that they can actually FLY after enemies more than makes up for it I think.
And in case you should wonder, and in case you should care...on that night of all nights, we were already there.
Re: Seagulls can fly!
loch modan golden eagles also exhibit this behaviour.

I bet it would be the same with the Felfeeders as well. And any other birds that fly above your head.
Come see Kurasu's stables!

Re: Seagulls can fly!
You can also use Go To and send it directly up onto roofs etc!
Great in PvP when enemies are up towers; whereas most pets go to run up the ramp, the gull flies right up, as the, well, crow flies >.<

Re: Seagulls can fly!
I hope it stays... it makes sense after all. (But there is a balance issue here. I just hope it stays for PVE).
It's nice to have the pet be able to go up to airborne targets.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
I would love to make an amusing movie of say, 50 or more hunters all with seagulls raiding something with this new ability... say a city

And get that lone alliance hunter with a crab standing there, watching the onslaught with a horrified expression towards his pet... Yes.Acherontia wrote:Roflmao, I can see it now: 40 hunters on top of Stormwind's gates... 40 seagulls descending upon the townsfolk...Astratia wrote:I would love to make an amusing movie of say, 50 or more hunters all with seagulls raiding something with this new ability... say a city

Re: Seagulls can fly!
NO WAY! I had made jokes about this about saying we should get birds that can go after PVP chars on their mounts....I thought I was going to have to get a seagull for this ability..But theres an EAGLE that can do it? I have to have. We should have a member of both sides of petopia meet somewhere to see if we can have our pet attack from the ground to a char on their fly mount, and see how high he will seek him.Grogann wrote:loch modan golden eagles also exhibit this behaviour.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
But the felfeeders CAN fly straight up. Just caught one to check.
Edit: though since the felfeeder wouldn't attack the normal black vultures either, I'm going to grab spiteflayer again and sic her on a non-tamed felfeeder. Maybe it's just /that/ mob.
Son of Edit: Spiteflayer will attack felfeeders midair, but not the normal vultures. ..Dunno why.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
LOL! Definitely grabbing a seagull now. Kallimon already has Pompano (felfeeder).
Icarus may yet need to change forms just for this....
