Curious now. Ever had an npc you felt a certain way about? Loved how they acted, hated how they acted, etc etc? And then, they do something so completely NOT what you expected, that it leaves you totally stunned?

This just happened for me for Garrosh Hellscream! I know, I'm shocked. I pretty much had no respect for him as a character. Veph pointed out in another thread that he's great for a plot driving device, and I agree--he's definitely made to hate, but he does get the ball rolling. As a story mechanic, awesome. As a character, loathe him.

Then I finished the Stonetalon quests.

There's a very looong quest chain having to do with joining the army and doing a lot of things to try and secure Stonetalon for the Horde. At the very end of the quest chain...well I won't spoil what happens, but suffice to say, Garrosh did something so completely unexpected (for me) that I would have thought Thrall was there for a moment. I found myself actually respecting Garrosh for the first time since...well, ever. I've never really liked him; he was either super depressed (Nagrand) or otherwise a general jerk (everywhere else).

This isn't to say I'm suddenly a fan of his. I'm skeptical. I probably will never like him. But wow...wow. I was totally floored by his actions here. I've got a little more respect for him than ever before.

What about you guys? Love/hate npcs, get totally stunned by them?

Hee. I didn't want to spoil that either, but it's another reason why I like him as a added character so much. He's made to hate...yet Blizzard throws some curveballs at us too. ;) I still don't care for him overly, but I can certainly appreciate his character development and the emotional reactions he can bring forth.

As for other particular NPCs...hmm, I'll have to think about it. ^^ I'm sure there's a few once I put my mind to it.

;_; Oh man, I know! He kinda annoyed me at first (I hate tagalongs like that irl too) but he grew on me. Especially when he healed me all the time during quests.

And...and then...

;_;

Oh! Speaking of recently added NPCs, I was in stitches when I was doing the Western Plaguelands quests with Zen'Kiki. He's an amateur troll druid just getting the hang of things, and oh my god I was laughing out loud so much. Such a fun character!

Another pair I've come to love are Gidwin and Tarenar in the Western Plaguelands. They're a dwarf and a blood elf, both paladins, who accompany you after you start Fiona's Caravan quests. At first I was rolling my eyes at both of them, but as the quest chain progresses I really found myself growing fond of them and their silly banter. It was like questing with two other friends since they often tagged along as your character's guardians. I really enjoy the chains I'm doing with them. :)

Yeeeeesss that would be the one XD

But that wasn't even the part that stunned me. It was the why he did it, not what he did.

EDIT:

Yeah, some tag-along quests ARE interesting. I loved the Gob Squad in Azshara, it was epic XD I just tend to hate the ones that try and get all friendly on you...like they assume they're your new best friend when you *just met.*

Have you done the quest in Hillsbrad where you have to "be" a Questgiver? The characters who come by asking you for your quest are hilarious!

"Dumass", a rather stupid Forsaken noob

"Orcnes the Kingslayer" (or something like that), an Orc on a Frostwyrm, who insults you for assigning him menial tasks after his adventures in Northrend, killing the Lich King, brags about his GS, etc.

"Johnny Awesome" a stuck up Blood Elf on a Sparkle Pony. Need I say more?

Yeah, I couldn't stop laughing.

-Zen'kiki. I got his chain, and after doing it in Beta, my first thought was, "Oh boy. This can't end well."

-The Redridge Bravo Company Quests. The ending made me so, so, so sad. I was all, "Yay! We're hero-wait, what? What? NO, IT CAN'T END LIKE THIS. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPY! NOOO!"

-"The Day Deathwing Came..." The line, "I'mma punch tha dragon in tha face!" is our guild's guild message currently. xD

You'd think after being duped so many times, my character would start doing her research before agreeing to things. ><

Oh i heard about that quest!

Also one thing, Cairne was the one who initially challenged Garrosh to the duel, and they BOTH agreed to do a duel to the death. Garrosh happened to have a unknowing advantage with the poison.

Man I'm gonna have to go do that quest on my itty bitty hunter now. I wanna learn some more 'bout dear Garrosh.

Do the quest in the Badlands where you interact with deathwing. You get to punch him in the face, among other things. :D

I presume you mean when he throws the Orc off of a cliff?

The only thing that Garrosh has done I don't like.
