I agree with your statement for the most part, Azunara, but the three spirit beasts that are in the game besides Loque'nahak were actually put there for hunters to tame. To give us that feeling of really hunting something special, if I remember correctly. I could swear I've seen a blue post on this. That doesn't make them "ours", of course, but I can definitely see hunters becoming sad or upset when Skoll, Arcturis or Gondria are killed, and I think that they are justified in that feeling. Even though that does not, of course, give the hunters any right to yell at the spirit beast killer in question.

However, anyone who ganks a tame away from a hunter is, in my book, an incredibly rude and inconsiderate person. And I think that any person subjected to that has every right to be upset. If the non-hunter was there first and killed it? That's of course completely fine, even though they probably have a lot more to gain from, for example, selling the location of a spirit beast spawn. Or just giving it to a hunter in exchange for that nice, fuzzy feeling you get when being nice. They could have gained a friend or some money. But that is, of course, their choice.
Oddly enough, I like that others can interfere with a rare beast tame, or that they can be killed if you're not in place quickly enough, even though I've personally had Loque'nahak ganked out of my own hands mid-tame. I was angry and sad for a moment, sure, but then I felt only excitement that after a week of searching, I had finally seen him. That meant that he existed, and that I could find him again. Which I did, two days later.
The fact that they are vulnerable added to my excitement when looking for these beasts, and pumped in some extra adrenaline every time I've found them and tamed them. But I'm sure that most don't have as much time to spend looking for the spirit beasts as I do, in which case a ganked tame becomes a bigger deal. Most would probably prefer that the beast should be made unkillable and impossible to take aggro from while taming. Which I think might be practical, but not as exciting.

And now that I got that out of the way, I have to say that that was a wonderful thing you did, Adam. I wish there were more nice people like you around on my server.
