leveling pets

Ok, so four random heroics and a little over an hour of killing converted heroes in Ice Crown later, Harakiss is now 41926 of the 65500 toward making level 78.

Suggestions on leveling pets? Daily's dont count toward experience for them do they. I'm trying really hard not to lose heart and just stick em in the bank and write it off as a bad investment.

I noticed leveling my pet in heroics on my lvl80 took FOREVER like you mentioned. But on my lvl55 hunter in WHU, I was in an UBRS/LBRS pug leveling my newly aquired Lone Hunter with sword intact, and it leveled from 52 to 55 in one instance run. Unsure why there is a difference here.

Have you tested this today? Yesterday my flaming boar was leveling quickly like yours, but today my oil-stained wolf got one bubble (roughly 15%) from one full heroic run.

The difference is that people won't be leveling from 80 to 85 in BUR, but they could potentially do so in Northrend dungeons. Hence, the nerf to exp gain from said dungeons.

I knew I should have stayed up longer last night and leveled 4-5 more pets to 80... meh... I guess having 6-7 at 80 is good enough for now.

I sure wish my Princess Huhuran and BOAR ON FIRE (Yeah, I am always going to type it this way... the keyboard demands it) would have made it to 80.... oh well... there will always be next week and new random places to grind pet levels.

They nerfed pet experience gain across the board last night. No matter where you go to level your pet, it feels like it takes around 10x the mobs you needed previously. I have a sneaky feeling they implemented the new experience tables for level 80's and that's partly why we're not getting experience as fast. That, combined with the nerf to experience gains in Northrend, has made leveling pets kind of pointless right now. Should be better in Cata.

Some developments that are of interest.

Basically, Kikanu ticketed a GM about pet exp gains or the lack thereof. According to the responding GM, this is a known issue that will be fixed.

Not sure whether this will mean that pets will get full exp from Northrend dungeons, or whether pets simply weren't supposed to be leveling at such a sluggish pace even outside of instances. Either way, good news is nice to hear.

My pets are only gaining 70-90 xp per normal mob kill outside of instances. It is definitely not limited to 80 heroics. And the speed at which a pet levels in Northrend heroics versus Cataclysm normals is really no different. XP is determined by mob level and normal versus elite, as far as I know.
