Cataclysm Pets Experience

So, I got 85 earlier today (EU realm) and just nabbed Karoma, the mother of all rares (for me).

While levelling, I ran into a few mobs of interest! I found a purple shale spider and was amazed by their color & glow; I hadn't been intending to get one, but after hearing their Tron-like squeaks and squeals and watching that purple glow for awhile I had to keep it <3

I also ran into the Amethyst Scarab during the Uldum quest. I always keep an empty stable slot, and LOVED the colors, so nabbed one of those too. Later I found out it's only available during that phase of the quest--or is that phase the last?

Last but not least, I found Jadefang. SPOILERS -- At first I was infuriated trying to get to this mob, cursing Blizz and the silly devs--then I remembered the damn bomb from the terrible quest that I was doing. The crystals just hadn't been dropping, and for fun I'd blown myself all over a cavern earlier. After a few attempts trying to throw myself from the floor into Jadefang's cave, I managed to do it from the opposite (well, 90 degrees to the right of) cave. At that point, I realized the devs had designed a clever puzzle and I had to laugh! Then I had to decide whether to kill Jadefang for the minipet (I LOVE the minipet!) or tame. It was a hard choice, as I normally never kill tameable rares--especially uniques. But I already had a purple shale spider; in addition I'm a minipet collector, and lastly, I was powerleveling and no other (Horde at least) hunter was anywhere near Deepholm level. SO, I grabbed myself the Tiny Shale Spider minipet!

So I've wound up with a new purple beetle & shale spider, and am now camping for Karoma. (Edit--got her Only a few hours in, was doing one last pass before wandering off to complete some quests, paused at the last point and she spawned before my eyes!)

How are you guys finding Cata pet-wise? What are your experiences so far? Story time!!

I am having fun, though I am still lv 81.5 Trying to lv fast but with a 8mnth old its a bit harder. Managed the mother of all botched tames for Terropene. Botched as in, I died 11 times, gave up, rolled some worgens leveled them to 13/14. Went back on my hunter to quest in Vashj'ir, got tired of the corehound lack of swim animation, so dismissed to call out my seagull, only to see a turtle in my supposidly empty slot, call it out to see Terropene next to me and spent the next 5min gapping at the screen. I appearently tamed him just as I died, didnt realise it.

I did spend some time watching ghostcrawler phasing in and out along the seafloor. but need to go up 3.5 lvs yet.

I'm officially on cloud nine tonight after hitting 83 and booking it to Uldum! Within a relatively short amount of time I found myself on the quest line that led to the Pit of Scales, where Gorebite the purple croc spawned.

I reached the location just as an Alliance player initated the quest...Gorebite spawned, so I decided to started taming him. The Alli didn't interfere at all, she must have realized what I was doing, and afterwards I helped her take down the other swarms and the elite 'boss'.



Aleister is mine at last, along with a host of wonderful new companions that I've tamed in Cataclysm. I'm thrilled with my stables, and so happy to find all these amazing pets. I have a couple others to give test runs to, but overall I'm about finished with taming until some other beasts might be released in the future.

Hooray, Veph! I was going to ask to see that story. Knowing your glee, I've been waiting eagerly to see your 'with pet' pictures.

So far, my own 'Cata' pet stories hasn't been much more exciting than my 'Shattering' pet stories. I've been archaeologizing (is that a word?) for a couple days, finishing up old world quests, and doing a little moneymaking on leather and the like. But slowly but surely, the guild gets more and more 85s. And little by little, I have hopes of getting a group into Uldum to try and tame me an Auraiya swarmer.

I still sweep by and check Terrorpene's location every time I'm in or near Mount Hyjal. And I still look for Arcticuris whenever I think of it. And I still wait for the day I hit 83 and can get my first shale spider...

Grats guys! I was starting a red theme with my pets, but that purple gator looks too sweet to pass up. My troll huntress is the one with the purple pets, but she's still 70...the brown one's fin things look rather reddish in the pics, maybe I'll try that one.

So far I've only spotted Karoma once, but unfortunately I was 84 (with 3 bars to go) and by the time I dinged she was gone. I then let out a sigh, scoped the area a few times for Sambas with no luck. I then decided to go ahead and check on Ghostcrawler. Much to my amazement the second I got to the spot there he was, just a yellow dot zipping around my map. I nabbed him with 12% health left. The nerfbat isn't one to reckon with.

I went back to Twilight Highlands and flew around for a while. Finally my npcscan buzzed and I spot Sambas. Without hesitating I swoop down, lay my trap, and hold my breath. Just as I tamed him the sky went red and 10 seconds later Deathwing scorched the area giving me my amazing lion along with a nifty achievement. Sambas is definitely one of my favorite tames now. I was only seconds away from losing him to Deathwing...and I totally would have done more than punch him in the face

wait...have to edit this...just tamed Karoma after reading another hunters post on here about a spot I didn't know about 8 minutes before server shutdown. I now only have Terrorpene and Jadefang to go..which I will most likely have to kill for the mini pet :/ I'm in love with my shale spider Mimzy.

I.... haven't touched my hunter, I've been having too much fun with my worgen druid

I'm sure I'll go back to my hunter soon (at some stage, in the future, eventually) and tame some of those awesome new pets though.

My experience has been good. I tamed a Shale Spider yesterday and love it! It's a wonderful tanking pet for leveling and does a great job holding aggro and taking minimal damage. Plus I get 5% to all my stats. The other rares I haven't been too interested in except for 2. Once I hit 85 I'll probably spend more time looking around for new pets.

I need more stable slots!

It's been fun and a bit overwhelming really. So many new pets to choose from, it's been kind of overload so far. I've been concentrating on leveling, but I've nabbed a few choice pets along the way.
