Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
EDIT:
Officially fixed by Blizzard, seen in the December 13th patch notes. Existing pets have not been changed (unknown if they will), but the temporary pets still cleanse upon death. The permanent ones do not.

Silly Blizzard.. sparkle pets weren't breaking the game.

I wonder if it's because of the DMG buff pets; even tho I am sure 95% of us weren't using them.. :/
If Rosalyn's burning bacon, false spirit wolf and oil wolf are gone/taken away from her, I'm gonna be depressed bleh.

As I understand this, we get to keep the ones we already have. However, we can't add any more.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I tamed one a few days ago with an effect.. it worked just fine.

This means those pets are all in peril now. One glitch or pvp mistake away from doom.
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
While I don't know, I imagine at the very least they'll remove the effects from currently tamed ones if they have actual buffs on them. In the process I wouldn't be surprised if all those pre-tame effects went away simply because of the changes required, but maybe not. Again, this is all speculation on my part.

Atleast Roast and Void still are flaming and oil covered respectively. Tbh I don't want Roast to be a normal boar, I tamed Roast and love him because well. He's actually the first boar I have liked on Rosalyn in a damn long time [Retaming a black armored boar even with a bit of RP behind it still couldn't make the click happen and stick].
And it was nice that there were 'unique' creatures that hunters could tame that weren't hell bent on driving you insane with respawn times and or sharing respawns and or sharing respawns and being one of 5/6 mobs that share the spawn I'm looking at you, Madexx.

I was considering making a topic on this myself, but decided against it for some reason. Still, I think it was a good call on your part

Acherontia, would you mind putting up another post on that thread asking for clarification as to what exactly will be fixed? I'd simply much rather know ahead of time if they intend to cleanse pre-existing pets rather than have it come as a complete and unwelcome surprise.
Well, we do know their intention (note that this is from the EU forum). What is unknown is what specifically they want 'fixed'.Dialga wrote:At least, that's what reports have been saying so far. (This has yet to be 'confirmed' by Blizzard, but all reports lean in this direction.)
It seems that /script PetAbandon is still working as intended; if you have a pet summoned and run the script, the pet is promptly abandoned. It's the unintended effect that it can have (not abandoning the pet, but instead preventing the wiping of buffs upon taming) that has apparently been fixed.Dialga wrote:It seems Blizzard has quietly hotfixed the macro, and possibly the die-taming method as well.
Or death, in the case of the spirit wolves. This has got to be what is bothering me the most about the news, for some strange reason. I've just got this nagging feeling that Murphy's Law will someday, somehow strike my consumed bear or oily hawk despite my best efforts to preserve them. I don't like that feeling one bit.Slickrock4 wrote:This means those pets are all in peril now. One glitch or pvp mistake away from doom.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
A few hours ago I tamed one of the sparkly tall striders and it worked just fine. I love the pink with sparkles, but know he will lose them if he dies. I just took a screenshot knowing he is not permanent. I hope we get to keep some of the effects, as I have fallen in love with Barbecue, my roasting pig.

Wait- did you tame the sparkle strider -after- the supposed quiet hotfix..?Karma wrote:A few hours ago I tamed one of the sparkly tall striders and it worked just fine. Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
Wait wait wait- could it possibly be this wasn't hot fixed like everyone is thinking but the fact it's so HARD to do? I remember I had to go through over a dozen wolves and nearly 30 sparkle chickens to get the visuals. Are we sure people just aren't crying out and giving up before it's to late?Dialga wrote:How strange.... What server?Karma wrote:I did--just a few hours ago.
at the moment I am attempting ghost wolves- if I manage the false wolves then well we know this wasn't stealth hotfixed

Well, also, my tame was first attempt, and easy. Have not tried another tame today on a shiny pet, but my tame today, just on the fly when I flew over doing arch. and saw this bird, was same as always for this type of pet.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
Regardless of whether it's been fixed yet or not, Blizzard's intentions are clear: They *are* going to fix this as soon as possible. If you've been holding off, it's probably now or never to get them. This, of course, assumes whatever they do to fix this doesn't strip the appearance buffs from existing pets. That will all depend on the technical limitations of the fix and whether they care enough to let these pets be "grandfathered".
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
No... I don't think so. I have a very low latency computer, and I've gotten all my tames on the 3-4th try... and I haven't changed computers for the new test tames I've been doing. My latency and fps certainly hasn't changed.Ryai wrote:

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
And how many tries have you done now? As I said even with all my settings turned down when I got it on Embront; specifically sparkle strider, it took me around 24/25 tries.Dialga wrote:No... So I am now not fully going to believe until either A: Blizzard comes out and says it or B: if no one can get it after a few hundred tries.
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I tried it on the Hive Queen in Sholazar (30 second respawn, so a good guinea pig to see if they'll even stay with you when you hit the macro) about 35 times. I moved on to the Spirit Wolves for about another 20 or so, then Lone Hunter for about 7, then the Oil Hawks for... eh 15? None of the tames took, and I'd tamed about 12 or so special appearance pets before.Ryai wrote:

Wait... what did the Hive Queen have that was an appearance buff?Dialga wrote:I tried it on the Hive Queen in Sholazar (30 second respawn, so a good guinea pig to see if they'll even stay with you when you hit the macro) about 35 times. Also, if they just fixed (or are going to...) the /script PetAbandon() macro then who cards? As long as it still does what it supposed to do. Also, all the pets that I have tamed with "special" appearance buffs I tamed without using that macro... they would have to fix more than just the macro.
