Potential sad news?!? on special skin tames

Unread post by Daeca »

Hunters

* It is no longer possible for hunters to tame pets in a way that allows them to keep any buffs the creatures had on them prior to being tamed.

in the middle of a camp for a rare so can't leave to go test on the various beasties, but will see what this has changed as soon as I am able.

Well there is one that was posted 30 min after this one, as to one created before this one, no idea. Didn't see one when I searched so thought that people might want to know of the change and what it could possibly mean for taming the "buff" skin pets like the oil stained wolf etc.

And you're quite welcome for the blue post =) I was trying to be helpful after all.

Does... that mean... that the Oil-Stained Worg is no longer oil-stainable? :( :( I am Horde, so I wasn't able to tame him just yet...

http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7521 is the semi-original topic. :)

@Feral, I would imagine this means the oil-stains are probably no longer stainable. I'm pretty sure the oil counted as a buff/debuff on the pet.

What *I* worry about is that the pets that already have those buffs are going to be cleansed. :( I'm happy to get rid of the damage-dealing ones, but I don't wanna lose my flaming pig!

Guess it's true then. Which sucks as all but 3 were harmless. This also leads to questioning how are they going to handle it? Are buffs going to be wiped from pets? Are the pets going to disappear? Are the pets just going to be turned into vanity mobs that are worthless at first before being fixed of sorts? They already would most likely know that Arena would remove all the buffs on the pets. It could simply be a matter of time before they incorperate an arena style buff/debuff remover to stables.

Though I am still pissed off they 'fixed this' when there's a bucketload of glitched quests, broken quests, broken cinimatics, glitchy cinimatics, invisible mobs that eat you, invisible things in the ground that attack you ...

We all knew this was coming - I had the oil stained wolf from a ways back, got the misty blue carrion bird recently along with everyone else, and wasn't interested in the rest. The wolf was sort of neat but more for his unique-ness than from pure "cool factor", and I had the bird before I knew about the mist trick, so if she loses the mist then I'm no worse off there than I was before griffley came along...

As far as existing tames, there almost has to be some sort of cleansing else those with dmg buffs would remain unaddressed in-game exploits... they might "go the long way" and specifically target just those guys, or they might say "you know what, who knows what other dmg buffed pets are in players' stables that we don't know about - just wipe 'em all to be safe".

I'm just glad this didn't cause them to yank PetAbandon(). :)

We all knew this was coming yes but what we wanna know is that the ones we have are we going to keep (grandfathered in) yes i know its a glitch no matter how you put it but the Grimtole Spirit was a glitch or was not surpose to get but they let people keep them so atleast we have hope. Because i wanna keep my Flaming pig (Boarbaque) and my Wolf with a sword stuck in his head (Thickheaded lol).

Edit: and they let us keep the Ooze and Hydra.

Right, I don't think Blizzard minds us keeping existing tames with appearance buffs per se, but obviously they're probably pretty keen on removing the buffs with dmg effects, and so the question then would be whether it's more feasible for them to remove just those buffs, or to remove all appearance buffs.

We'll see.

Well I hope they just get rid of those that caused damage (heck I didnt even know those ones could...) and not the ones that just look different. Ill be really sad if they get rid of the ones who dont do any damage because really its so much fun trying to figure out a way to tame it.. it made taming fun. But I think the oil wolf will be ok cause in the Cata book that my bro bought, in the hunter section there are pics of a hunter and two of them are of a hunter with a oil wolf. And its for sure a oil wolf because you can see the aura underneath it.

I didnt even know there were certain ones that kept the buffs.. or debuffs.. everything got lost pretty fast underneath all the new tames.

Wow this is upsetting news!! I spent a day getting the timing right taming the flaming boar by myself, if that and my oil stained pets loses their buffs then that's a lot of time wasted aquiring these pets. Why is it that we hunters always get the short end of the stick when it comes to patches and hotfixes?!?! :x

Yes. Looks like they're running a little bit over this week.

EDIT: Actually I was going off the realm status page at the battlenet site - in fact I was able to log in even though it listed all realms as "down".

And yes I can confirm as well that at least the oil stained wolf and misty carrion bird still have their appearance buffs. :D
