First week of Cataclysm: Pets already tamed!

Hey everyone,

I figured since the servers are down for maintenance that I would create a post here regarding pets already tamed. I have been extremely lucky and persistent with my tames and I do plan to post pictures of each pet I list here. This is not meant as a bragging post, but rather an informative post of how persistence pays off!

Cataclysm came out on Dec 7th which, coincidentally, happened to be my birthday. Thank you Blizzard! My husband and I got to 85 just a few days later. During the leveling process I was able to tame Terrorpene and posted about my experience on these forums. I was level 82 at the time and died a couple times before my husband helped me on his paladin with a resist aura and a quick heal. I also had another hunter try to steal the tame. Ouch.

Leveling up I decided to get a beetle too (sapphire scarab) because I thought they were so cool looking. I have not decided whether or not I want to keep it permanently yet though, because I tend to go for the rare and unique pets only. After I hit 85 I decided to start searching for the rare and unique pets I wanted. I saw Jadefang but did not have the bombing quest to get up to her. I went to hunt for Sambas and found him after a few hours. I was surprised that there weren't other hunters swarming down on him but I got lucky and tamed him quick. Then I went back to see if I would get the daily to get up to Jadefang's ledge and I did. Woohoo! Tamed her too without any problems and kept the daily so I could get back up there for the little pet sometime.

I was hunting for Karoma next and got frustrated with the chat in the Twilight Highlands (anyone else on other servers seeing this as the new Barrens chat? Ugh.) so I went to go quest with my husband in Vashj'ir - the one zone we had skipped on the way to 85. I had kept an eye out for Ghostcrawler but did not see him when I would check. After we finished the zone and I had tamed the Enormous Sand Crab that spawned during the "Totem Modification" quest (the one that keeps the blue markings and is not a color changing crab), I went and camped around Ghostcrawler's spawn point and pat zone for the next seven hours. Exhausted, I logged off to get some sleep. Three hours later I was back up again because I knew I needed to get back on a somewhat "normal" schedule. I logged in and did my circle around Ghostcrawler's pat zone again with no luck. As soon as I got back to his original spawn point my NPCscan went off! Tamed him without any real difficulties but I am sad that he doesn't keep nerfbat.

After that, I went back out to Barren's chat- I mean, Twilight Highlands, and hunted for Karoma for 10 hours. She finally spawned and I got her quickly before anyone killed her. Even some of the other players were threatening to kill her if they found her first because I had dared ask in general chat for help. All I had said was (and this is word for word), "Hey everyone! I have been looking for the spirit wolf, Karoma, to tame her. If anyone sees her and helps me out I would really appreciate it and I will tip you after I have tamed her. Thank you!" But of course that resulted in nerd rage and people saying they had already killed her, etc. One guy even had the nerve to say, "Yeah I killed her about 20 min ago and she dropped a blue that I vendored for 10g." I laughed at him and said informed him of what she actually drops. Not long after that people realized that I was a "girl" and started going off on how women are so serious and emotional and women "huntards" are the worst. It was about twenty minutes after this Karoma spawned and I got her. I thanked those in general who were nice to me and I left. I decided to check and see if Jadefang was there and she was again, so I killed her and got the little shale spider pet to run around with the real Jadefang.

Now I just need Madexx and I'll be good to go! I'm hoping to find the blue one but currently I'm not feeling picky at all. I'm just looking forward to the realms being back online so I can go back to the hunt.

I finally got Madexx! It's not the color I wanted (I wanted blue, green, or red originally) but it is growing on me!


I'd say it's been a pretty productive week even with the frustrations of people in Twilight Highlands general chat!

How have the rest of you fared? I've seen several people posting pictures of the same pets I have so it looks like we're doing pretty well so far, fellow hunters!!!

I got the game delivered one day after release (damned store, they promised the pre-order would arrive in time) but before one week had passed I managed to tame (in this order):

Terrorpene
Ghostcrawler
Jadefang
Madexx
Karoma
Sambas

I agree. Persistance pay off and I think it was worth sacrifice couple of nights sleep to manage to collect em all before the new zones will be permanently crowded.

My stable before the Rendering was my four spirit beasts and a wolf.

I've found almost all the pets that I wanted now, except for Terrorpene and a blue Madexx.

Sambas and Karoma I got in the same night through sheer dumb luck and a lovely druid posting in general chat that Karoma was out.

Paid about 500g for a group to go get my Chromaggus. Happily I had to do nothing but run in and tame as the person who was already saved to the instance was saved with Chro as the next boss.

I got my red-jewel scarab in halls of origination. Got killed trying to tame him and the group was great. The mage transformed him as a sheep and the whole group waited for me to run back and tame him again. Got Mayday, my Ashtail the day they went live. Took another level 85 hunter with me into the Lost City so we could try taming some of those prety hunched jewel tigers. Both started to tame, feigned death after the tame went off, so the rest of the pack of cats would leave us alone, and ran back out.

There are more in my stable, but those are the highlights, tame wise.

Awesome! I got Ashtail as well when they went through the shattering. I am truly glad that people are able to get out there and tame these pets- as Jin said, it's better to get them now before they are all being permanently camped.

Yeah, while I was looking for Sambas and Karoma there were ten other alli hunters in the area-and I spotted about three horde hunters too.

To say the Highlands was full of hunters sitting around waiting for these pets would be an understatement. That I got both on the same night still shocks and thrills me. Never been that lucky with pets before.

And Terrorpene is making sure I won't be that lucky again. *kicks magma turtle*

I personally had luck that I wish I had in Wrath with the Cata rares.
Terrorpene(found twice got it for a guildy as well)
Jadefang(My most epic tame ever, even got a second one for the pet)

Ghostcrawler

Now we play the waiting game.../waits for Maddex.
Would prefer the black one, being totally colorblind I tend to use white and black pets.

Got Terrorpene, Madexx (blue), Sambas, and Ghostcrawler. I was 2 seconds away from fighting another hunter for a Jadefang spawn (although, since I had gotten there second anyhow, I wouldve /bow /cheer them).

It's only been a week, so there's no point in feeling bad about not having "this" or "that" pet yet.

Them guys in Twilight Highlands are a bunch of douches first they say that they are going to kill Karoma then saying you are a stupid hunter because you are a girl, oh my gosh!!! stuff like that makes me mad i hope something that they want is taken away from them because they want to be douches. Gratz tho on all the sweeet Tames! especially Karoma!

My struggles with WotLK rares has been balanced out with this expansion and then some. It sure is addicting. Always hoping npcscan will scare the crap out of me.

I have all six spirit beasts and a few rares. Looking forward to more being added.

Let's see. Cata-wise, I've actually tamed very few things: Terrorpene and a yellow Shale Spider. I do have a lot of valued pets, but they're all from 4.0.3a, pretty much. I'm planning on getting a Halls Of Origination venomous skitterer if I can, though. Tempted by that gorgeous jeweled blue, too; I may try both and pick one.

Congrats! It seems like a lot of hunters on this forum are also going with the idea "get them now before everyone else levels up and realises they're there". I look around and see so many people on this forum with Karoma and Sambas and Terrorpene etc etc and think that they must be more common than other rares, but perhaps everyone (like myself) has been pet hunting sooner rather than later before the rares become more well known?

I always get the smart alec, rude replies when I ask in general about pets - similar to the replies you get. I find it hilarious that IRL absolutely none of those people would either a) say those things or b) have the confidence to even SPEAK to a woman, and yet they must say them to sound cool and get their kicks. And I suppose very few of them realise how old the joke is (Ha ha, very funny, you killed Karoma too? But this guy did 20 minutes ago and this guy tamed her two hours ago. Wow. Crazy spawn timers huh ;D). I think it's sad that we as hunters really can't believe anyone - even fellow hunters, anymore, about spawn times etc when really we should just all be there to help each other out. One more rare tamed, one less hunter who wants it!

I've also had pretty sweet luck with rares so far, though not entirely without drama hehe. Like you, I had quite a small stable until this expansion and the patch before it... now I need to be very careful and plan ahead about the pets I want to tame. I suppose that just means it's time to seriously level up one of my hunter alts hehe. During this xpack I've managed to find Ghostcrawler on my third check of his spawn location, Sambas within a few hours, Karoma in a few days with some help, my absolutely gorgeous Tol Barad colour changing fox (not a rare, but definitely a win in my eyes! I ran with Ashtail for a bit but it didn't click, this fox, however, is a keeper ), though for some reason my server seems to make Jadefang and Terrorpene a lot harder to catch than the impression I got here! I have yet to see either in the wild, and Jadefang is quite often camped o.o My friend recently found Madexx but that's the first I've seen or heard of him tamed, alive or dead.

I hit 85 about midnight on Tuesday night, 21hrs after launch. I was one of three lvl85s in my guild, and one of two lvl85 Alliance hunters. A guildmate formed a party of lvl81s and messaged me asking for my help in killing a lvl85 rare spawn in Vashj'ir. I agreed, came out, and realized it was Ghostcrawler. Naturally I asked them to let me tame it, but they were convinced there was loot and an achievement. I stood and watched as they went at it, and between the Nerfbat and the level difference, they were able to get the beast down to only 95% before he poofed. Realizing that I wouldn't help kill a Spirit Beast, they decided it was best to let me tame it. And that's how I got a realm first Ghostcrawler.

Next was Terrorpene. For the first time in my hunter life, I decided to camp a rare spawn. Before this point, I'd tamed Arctrius, Skoll, and Gondria by randomly checking their spawns during low-population hours. But I wanted my turtle! In two sittings I camped for 9 hours, passing the time by fishing in the Pools of Fire. I quickly and effortlessly tamed him. The next day, on a whim, I decided to check for some Pools of Fire, and there he was again. I called over a guildmate, and he tamed it without having to search for it, the lucky bastard.

Sunday night about 3am I did a pass for Sambas and got lucky. I logged off and headed to bed after a quick tame. About 11am the next day, I found Karoma, but couldn't tame him! I almost died to the wolf spirit before I figured out I was in my SV spec. After straightening that out, I transported to Sholazar for Loque, my last spirit beast. Lo and behold, there was Loque! In my haste to tame him, I didn't realize my newly-tamed lvl85 Karoma was killing my prize. Loque was down to 30% before I got my act together and, barely, tamed the last elusive beast.

So with the Cata rares, I've also had extremely good luck. It seems that in general on my server, there are very few high-level hunters this week, and I don't know why that should be. I'm just happy to have finished playing Pokemon this early in the expansion so I can do more fun things than camping spawns.

It sounds like a lot of people have been really lucky with finding rares in the first week. I think that's probably because we actually look at wow-petopia and read/respond to posts on the forums hahaha. I've had several people ask about my pets, and others don't even notice. Regardless, I am glad that people are able to get the pets they want for the most part.

Still camping Madexx as we speak- no sign yet. I did however get some screenshots up so just need to crop them down and put them in my first post.

I've managed to nab Ghostcrawler and Sambas on the same day, one at 1:59pm and the other sometime around 7:09pm?

I have yet to find Karoma and Terrorpene much less see anyone on our server with it. /cry

17 hours and counting for Karoma at the moment.

Grats to all on your tames!!! So far I've gotten...nothing. I'm really slow to level. I'm getting close to 83 but not quite there yet. To be honest, I don't think I really am desperate to have any of the new rares except for Madexx. I've tried scorpids before but couldn't get into them, but I just love his model. I'm hoping for brown, but if not then green --> black --> red --> blue is the order I want. Besides that...maybe I'll try Karoma since I do love the coyote model wolf and never had the pleasure to own a ghost wolf before. And I dislike Sambas' model but am thinking of taming him just so I can name him Dandylion (get it? cuz his mane is so "dandy"?.../facepalm) I crack me up.
