Need Computer help!!!! *Edit* Now with Error report!

Ok, I've been having a big issue with playing Makoes, who reached lv 85, in high populated areas, My game crashes to a blue Screen that says something like windows has shut down to prevent further damage and some number stuff. After a guildy directed me to the Wow Tech support forum where after running tests to find my stuff was up to date, and all that stuff, then adding line SET gxAPI "OpenGL"
Got that from this site: WoW Support I was able to log onto my hunter ang get her out of The highlands. However, now I am experiencing a glitch with ALL my toons...I'll be moving along when the screen flashes completely black, then goes back to normal, move move BLACK back to normal...rinse and repeat...

*Bangs head on desk* I just want to play me game TT^TT

So...HELP PLEASE!!!

You could be having a overheating problem. When was the last time you cleaned out your video card and CPU heatsink ?

like with compresed air? about 3 days ago, and I keep a close eye/hand on the temp of my Laptop.

Have you tried updating your video card drivers ? Does windows give you a code on the blue screen or is it just blue screen and the computer reboots.

I think it was a code like STOP 0x000000D1
went to the microsoft site and it scanned my computer and said I was up to date.

I wouldn't rely on that. I would manually check for updated versions of drivers for mobo etc etc. I did a google on the stop error and I'm only getting stuff about usb problems. Does the problem only happen when your in a highly populated area ?

yep, SW or in this last case Twilight highlands. After adding that line to the folder, I was able to use my hunter, but then ALL my characters atarted geting the black screen flash.

Hmmm.. It does sound like a Video card problem. I would check to see if there is newer drivers for it. Besides that then trying lowering your graphic settings in the game and see if that helps ?

Yeah...maybe tomorrow it will behave itself...hopefully in January I will be getting a new PC with much better stuff for playing WoW, I might even see what Azeroth is like in detail!!

Are you running the game in windowed mode? Try removing the OpenGL line from your config.WTF and using SET gxWindow "1" instead.

Do you know what kind of graphics card you have?

I was getting stop error and blue screens a few years ago while playing Guild Wars. I was using onboard graphics which is not ideal for gaming; my solution bought a dedicated graphics card and I've been good ever since.

I had the same problem with flashing black screen, though it was with a pretty strong PC on Battlefield BC2, and I am almost sure its a graphic card problem. how old is your graphic card? and is this problem only on WoW?

Well, the coputer was bought around 3yrs ago. And at the time it had just come out. Only happens in wow and only after i added that line to the game.
Last night I removed the added line and now I am going to see if thats fixed the black flashing. And if I encounter that blue screen, i'll write down what it says and hopefully someone will know what i am suppose to do

From what I've read it sounds like a hardware issue. You can try doing a memory test @ http://www.memtest.org/. Also are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

the only error is the soundcard, which stopped working when the BF knocked over my computer...it'd cost between $3-$500 to fix it...Took it into the shop to see if they could re-install, but nope, It just wont re-install, so they'd have to send it away, get it opened up and looked at. Its been like that for about 2mnths now.

You can read those memory dumps that the PC does in order to find out what caused the crash. Try WhoCrashed and see if the files point to a culprit. There's a free home version.

As far as i have been made to understand back when i was being taught a little here and there by a computer tech i know, he was in the understanding that Compressed air anywhere near the inside of a computer is a bad thing maybe that is the source of your computer troubles.
