First time rare camping, few questions.
So I came to these forums because my girlfriend has come here seeking help on her rare tames (just got Terrorpene the other night) and I wanted to ask for some advice/help.
I've decided to go after Ghostcrawler, Jadefang, Terrorpene, Loque, and Skoll for now and see where it sends me. I don't need help with Terrorpene really but the others would be great. Spawn times, area's the most commonly spawn and anything I should watch out for would be great. I've found some stuff out already but wanted to see if anyone could point me to some threads and or pages that could help. Thanks all in advance!

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
I find that wowhead is one of my best friends for these types of things. ^_^
Loque: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=32517#comments
Skoll: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=35189#comments
Jadefang: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=49822#comments
Ghostcrawler the mob doesn't seem to exist there. =/
Anything you can't find there can probably be found within the multitude of threads about these pets here. ^_^
Edit: This might help you with Ghostcrawler: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7481

Skoll's respawn is 6-12 hours I think, spawn near the gear imbedded in the snow above Brunhildar is the best, seen him there twice, a friend got him there, and so did a guildie.

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
Thanks for the info guys. I have been skimming wowhead and there is a lot of info to go through. Never the less I am going to find out as much as I can about these guys.
Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
Hmm, I'm no expert but hopefully I can give you most of what you need to know.
Ghostcrawler
Seems to pat semi-randomly all over the Abandoned Reef in the Abyssal Depths (Vash'jir), including the north point directly west of L 'ghorek. So all over that reef area. He will "phase out" for approx 30 seconds before re-appearing ~40 yards away, so it's worth checking the whole area a few times and spamming a /tar Ghostcrawler macro. His NPC scan ID is 50051. It is rumoured he is on more of a 12-24 hour spawn as he is a pain to kill, however oftentimes the whole reef area is deserted so it's probably safe to pop back and check every few hours if you don't fancy a long, drawn-out camp. He packs a bit of a punch with his Nerfbat but any level 85 should handle him fine. He is a neutral/yellow mob and quite small, however reasonably easy to spot as the whole area is a very bleak grey-brown and he is a bright spirity blue. Either way I'd still recommend the macro, NPC scan and beast tracking enabled.
Jadefang
Only one spawn point - at the very back of a cave in Deepholm's Crumbling Depths which requires either a) a daily quest or b) death as a Night Elf to get into (is also a latency/lag way but it's imo too complicated lol). There is actually a good video showing exactly how to get into the cave on Youtube which you might want to look up. Daily quest way is by far easiest. It's a random daily so it may not be up all the time but if it is up, there will be a goblin (who gives you the required item... a bomb) in the first chamber at the entrance to the Crumbling Depths. Just keep the daily til you've got Jadefang. The actual cave is in the second "main" chamber, past the big gyreworm. From entering that chamber there is an open path to your left, and next to that path (on its right side) is a high up cave which is where Jadefang spawns. She spawns at the very back of it so you cannot see her on beast tracking unless you're in the cave, or you run around following another path to get closer to her spawn point. Video on youtube will show you how to get up there, it's very easy. Simplest way I've found to get Jadefang is just to park your toon there and wait for her to spawn while doing something else, as if you have NPC scan you won't miss her. She's another neutral mob, NPC scan ID 49822.
Loque
Great time to get this guy and Skoll now, but still nothing for it but an annoying camp. Just much less competition
I'd perhaps suggest an overnight and early morning camp session, keeping in mind that the spawns are not linked so Aotona could spawn and 2 hours later Loque might (so don't give up for another 6 hours, lol). Tbh there's heaps of stuff on Wowhead about him, so there's not much to tell. I'd recommend circling around all of his spawn points on a regular-ish basis and if there's anyone else in the basin asking if they can shout if they see him.
Skoll
Don't forget to keep an eye out for TLPD too
Again, same as Loque, plenty on Wowhead, Storm Peaks is possibly a tiny bit more active than Sholazar so you might want to make it known you're interested in taming Skoll. Again, nothing for it but a camp til it spawns.

Thanks for the tips there. Right now I'm kinda agitated because the servers aren't working right and I was trying to figure a way up into the cave where Jadefang is as she just spawned and I tried to do the disconnect thing to fly up there but can't log back in now...=/ Very annoying.

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
I wish you luck!
On Moon Guard, I've spotted Loque at the north gorilla spot 3 or 4 times now. Saw him once at the South gorilla spawn area.
Skoll, I've seen him once by the frozen lake with the harpies and once by the metal disk.
So maybe this info can give you an idea of where to choose to park it for 30 minutes before doing a round to all spawns.

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
For Jadefang, something to keep in mind is that you don't need to hand the daily in. Once you have it, sit on the bombs and you can get back up there whenever you like.
I figured most people would know this, but better said and make me look like an idiot, than not said and later have someone feeling like an idiot.
Also, I can report that I have seen her on beast tracking a few times while not in the cave. You do need to get right underneath it, or quite close, but it is there!

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
The most important thing about hunting rares is keeping your patterns as tight as possible. For popular rares in high traffic areas like Madexx, Sambas, Karoma and in the days of old Loque'Nahak you literally only have a matter of seconds to find and tame a mob that's on a 6-24 hour spawn timer.
If I'm at the computer I never just hangout over one spawn point I constantly keep moving and I map out and practice the circle pattern so that it's second nature.
I didn't have the best flight path for when I first started camping Madexx and I lost him because someone killed him. I got serious, researched (mapped out) the spawn locations and got a very tight pattern down. Not that hard for him really. My first pattern had me going out to an area that was wrong because someone posted incorrect spawn locations. Can't take everything you see on wowhead.com as fact, especially people saying it's only on a 24 hour spawn timer.
If you see other people in the area don't get discouraged. Keep going and don't give up, most the time they'll see you're not leaving, so they'll leave.
Also if you're using NPCscan double check you've entered the data correctly, I've messed it up twice now, heh.

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
You don't think it's on a 24-hour spawn timer? x_x Also, do you happen to have an example of the route you took? Trying to figure out his different spawn points for each NPC ID is...bleh. So as of right now I basically just fly around the entire desert.Rozetta wrote:The most important thing about hunting rares is keeping your patterns as tight as possible. That's the route I flew over and over just looping back and forth. The two times I saw him he was at the east two spawn locations. Those dots I put on that map aren't exact spawn locations, I was just showing the route, but they are close to known locations.
First time I saw him was 10:45 pm CST, then next time was 8:03 pm CST (server is PST) a few days apart. If it was 24 hours those times don't match up. A color isn't linked to a spawn location either.
I don't know this for fact but I think the locations wowhead shows for mobs is based on where it was killed not first seen. That's why you'll have some weird locations. Like wowhead shows one of the "locations" for Madexx right next to the quest givers, very unlikely. Someone aggroed and pulled it there. Gotta remember people know they are running the wowhead client and will generate miss-information if they can. Or it could be that someone else pulled him there and that's where the person with the wowhead client first saw him.

You can also be right above the spot where Jadefang is, flying above the cave--this is how my beast tracking (and NPCScan) picked her up on my fly-by check.

One thing i would recommend, download NPCSCAN, NPCSCANOVERLAY, and SILVERDRAGON.
They help a TON

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
Oh wow, thanks! Dang, the route I was taking was taking me way out of my way and probably wasting time. Just recently I was beginning to compact my route but I was still going all the way to the southern end of the desert, to the far corners east and west. But with this I won't waste so much time and effort looking when he probably won't be all the way there anyway.Rozetta wrote:http://www.wowhead.com/maps?data=5034:4 ... 4188538186

Now if I could just be there when he spawns. This all-nighter I plan on doing tonight had better pay off!!! Man, last time I did this much camping was for Krush and it about killed me. I only got a couple hours of sleep per night that weekend and I ended up getting sick.

Anyhoo, thank you!!! Wish me luck. XD

But if you look at this map, the bottom left point is what worries me. Is that a real spawn location? My path might not be perfect but when I did it only one person said they found it in the bottom left of the area. Now it shows multiple reports of Madexx kills down there.
You'll probably want to check down there if you plan on following my path. I did every once in awhile.

That's still better than what I was doing. I would first take the outside path, then from the Sun disc thing I'd take a path through the middle, then back to the outside again, etc. I was going all the way up into the hill area (getting ore, too, which wasn't bad), then all the way back down to the southern tip of the desert.

Try this path, it'll cover all the known, as far as is on wowhead, spawn locations and will get it tight.

Heh, I just noticed, that route, when you connect it, looks like a crescent moon.
I'll try this out, and hopefully will have something to show for it. You've been a great help, thanks!!!

Re: First time rare camping, few questions.
Thanks guys for all the info. I think I might explore Madexx at some point also but I want to get the others first. If anyone wants to know the status of my Jadefang find, when I finally logged back on today I was outside the cave dead sadly and when I went in she was gone =( I'm going to wait for the daily to pop up for this one so I don't have to have a situation like this happen again.
Before checking her last night I tried out Skoll and Loq but no luck. I already had a pretty decent path I went in Sholazar but I tried to track out something better in Storm Peaks for Skoll.
