Raptor or Cat

Unread post by Soulhoarder »

I don't know which to pick for my hunter a raptor or cat I'm in pvp. I want the one that is better for raid, instances, BG, and arena. I will be keeping the one pet until level 55 when I get my devilsaur.

My vote went to raptor for a few reasons:
1) I see them much less often than cats;
2) Savage Rend will be great in longer fights such as instance boss fights, and painful against opponents in PvP
3) Wouldn't it be neat to have vicious dinosaurs as your character's "trademark" - going from a smaller raptor to a huge devilsaur :D

(And, btw, you can't do raiding/arena at level 55 anyway so those don't really apply).

(Right? Arena isn't til 80 I thought. I've never participated in one but I always thought it was a max-level thing. :?: )

I voted cat.

#1 similar dps to a raptor
#2 stealth is great for pvp
#3 http://www.wow-petopia.com/html/mobs/mo ... saber.html This cat is almost invisible when in prowl.

I heard that raptors have better armor than cats and cats have more health but the raptors armor makes up for that and I really don't care about prowl I just don't like that it slows their speed because I like fights to go quick. Which one has better stats is what I really want to know.

if you're not going to use the cats' stealth ability for ambush tactics then I would go raptor.

Everything about pets has been scaled the same. It used to be that different talent trees had more in Health/Armor/Damage, but they equalized everything for all pet trees. Now All pets have +5% Health, Armor and Damage. I'm pretty sure that everything scales according to YOUR stats as the hunter, not the pet's stats.

Since Raptors and Cats are both Ferocity, you would have the same options when you select their talents, so there would be no difference there either.

As for which pet...I'm not a huge pvper but I'd say cat. The stealth can be very useful. Plus their attack also leaves a bleed effect which will keep pesky rogues from vanishing, interrupt bandages, waste healing effects and continually do damage.

I don't know if this any help but I'm looking at the durotar tiger and the bloodtalon taillasher. This is only because I'm an orc in durotar and these are the only options that appeal to me.

All pets in a single family are exactly the same. You can choose whatever skin you like; a durotar tiger will have the exact same stats as any other Cat in the game. Same with the raptors.

Good choices though, they're very fitting for an orc :)
