Hunter Fix Suggestions

So, hunter's my new main (I used fire mage for PvP in WotLK), and after doing a little bit of everything, here's my thoughts--as posted on the WoW EU forums in another thread. I think we need some fixing, and these are my suggestions--what do you guys think?
You have a healer pillar-humping in arena. Okay, if you're a melee, you chase after him, snare, kill. If you're a caster, you chase after him, snare, cast. If you're a hunter, chase after him, then play the "I need to keep you in LoS and yet be 10 yards away to shoot you" game. Lol no.

And while anything being tunneled by two melee will have a hard time, a hunter is probably the worst; everyone will go straight for your face and sit on it, because the closer they are to you, the safer they are. How is that okay? Minimum range is an outdated mechanic and should be removed. In the past, it would have been OP to have huge melee AND ranged damage, but now everyone has huge self-heals or insane stunlocks anyway--or plate armor. Or all of the preceding. We won't go running up to people to get in melee range if this is changed, and the melee classes closing on us will still have a huge advantage in close-quarters combat. But we won't be utterly useless with our guns jammed against their ribcages--because point-blank range is apparently innaccurate, right? I spend half my time trying to counter-kite a melee defensively, trying to avoid death, rather than kiting to kill. Part of that may be the OPness of current DK snares + warrior stuns/gapclosers but it might just be that we suck.

The point is, in arena, unless we get lucky enough to have someone sort of casually hanging around at range, we're not going to score a kill. We have to play extremely well to score a kill that other classes can nab without trouble.

My to-do list, feel free to borrow it Devs:

* Remove Minimum Range
* Trap radius needs to be brought back up, don't know WHAT they were thinking. In reality, the "trap launcher" should simply TRAP a player, like a spell.
* Fix the dependance hunters have on both caster and melee attributes--having to gem spellpen, which currently is bugged for us anyway, and being susceptible to disarms + silences both, leaves us pretty open to being controlled to death.
* A small increase in Focus regeneration while fighting would be nice; our burst is pretty lacking and AotF (which should be given much earlier) just plain sucks.
**Bugs need fixing:
* Monkey stun needs fixing/nerfing. It's bugged, as a disorient that doesn't break on damage, thus not sharing DR with stuns/can't be blinked out of.
* Dash+Mobility needs fixing.
* Stuns through Deterrance need fixing (it hits me even from the front; and once you're stunned you can't parry)
* Feign Death's cooldown being used without triggering the ability needs fixing
* Pets coming out at 6k hp and instantly dying needs fixing
* Kill Shot Glyph not consistently working--needs fixing.
* No Dodge from Agility--needs fixing.
* Multishot breaking bows, etc etc etc.

Some sort of extra defensive cooldown would be nice--for example, making Deterrance also reduce incoming damage (i.e. dots) by 50% for the duration.

My two cents.
I think our PvE damage is fine, but the PvP reality is that we can't just sit there and nuke. Nor should we be able to, not without pressure, but the current mechanics are just rather crap IMO.

I think the most important suggestion here, bar taking everything and FIXING IT, is the idea of trap launcher being a direct spell. It's currently working as a spell (and yet I've read that spell pen is incorrectly not applying, meaning even spellpen-stacking hunters will have resisted traps?), so why not use it like one? Most of the classes in game have decent, reliable CC, and having to hit launcher, hit trap, aim trap and hope/pray, whilst probably being tunneled & trying to protect your healer... it's just rather crap in arena. The trap trigger radius was lowered with the Shattering, and never included in patchnotes--and people MOVE. It's pretty much a prerequisite to blow scatter shot in order to get a trap in, and it still can be resisted or triggered by something else. I've had pets, mirror images and water elementals run happily over the traps just as I've dropped them, too, leaving their masters free to nuke my face in. A spell--target player, freeze/snake/burn them--would be SO MUCH BETTER.

Well, there's my wall of text. Opinions? >.<

We should be able to sit there and nuke, provided that no one is attacking us. I usually have melee chasing after me while I try and burst the other target down; the damage I output in that situation is pitiful.

I wouldn't mind being able to directly fire traps at targets, but it probably should be an entirely separate skill. There are times where you will want to throw a trap on the ground, but cbf running there or can't get there w/o pulling aggro. Then there's the fact that you might need to keep something frozen on the other side of the room while avoiding aoe, so you launch a trap just infront of your CC target (1 min freeze, 30 sec CD). I'd rather flick a trap over there without having to drop my current target.

* Kill Shot Glyph failing

Those two are the most frequent problems that i've been experiencing.

I hope they don't, because I rely on this a LOT to kill other hunters in PvP; removing it won't make pole-dancing healers any easier for us to kill, and i'll be taking excessive damage against other hunters by allowing them to nuke me. Not sure how it would affect our switching from range to melee auto-attack, either..

Problem is....PvE and PvP have to be the same as game mechanics. It's probably impossible to do that cause it would throw PvE out of wack.

Luckily, not a single one of the things I've mentioned affect PvE >.>

@ Felidere--my issue with the pillar-humpers in arena is that you have to chase them around to get in LoS. In order to get there quick enough you need to get close, but then you're too close to shoot, so unless you have a DK to yank them out, it gets irritating fast. It's a pretty shitty system as it is, imo.

Anything dealing with pvp affects pve. Thats what I'm saying. Any abilities to be changed will affect it whether you like it or not because thats apparently how it's coded. Thats why we get nerfs/buffs because of a lot of pvp aspects. Thats the point I'm trying to make. It's be great if it were separate but it's not.

It is completely separate!!

NONE of these are damage buffs, at -all.- I don't know why you think fixing BUGS will affect PvE. Please reread the original post, and tell me how that would affect PvE?? Wait, I'll do it.


* Remove Minimum Range <--How does this affect PvE? The ONLY way would be on some kind of gimmick fight where you need to get close--think the boss in Vortex Pinnacle, where they didn't take hunters into account and we can't dps for half of it. Buff PvE? No.

* Trap radius needs to be brought back up, don't know WHAT they were thinking. In reality, the "trap launcher" should simply TRAP a player, like a spell. <--This is how it USED to be. The trap going off/not going off because of RNG trigger range DOES NOT buff PvE.

* Fix the dependance hunters have on both caster and melee attributes--having to gem spellpen, which currently is bugged for us anyway, and being susceptible to disarms + silences both, leaves us pretty open to being controlled to death. <--Spell Pen, silences and disarms are not PvE issues. Spell Penetration does absolutely 0 in PvE.

* A small increase in Focus regeneration while fighting would be nice; our burst is pretty lacking and AotF (which should be given much earlier) just plain sucks. <--AotF at earlier levels won't affect a thing. The rest of this--focus increase--is the ONLY thing in my entire post which might affect PvE.


**Bugs need fixing:

I never said all of it. I just said a lot of PvP mechanics do affect PvE.

Nicve list of changes, Acher. Just wish they'd remove that ugly ugly ugly fox icon from my aura bar. It makes me cringe. Stupid foxes. -.-

I have more or less a phobia of foxes. :P Disturbing, disgusting evil little creatures. *Shudder* And the icon doesn't go away! D: I can't take it off my aurabar on the hunter, and in raids the icon is sometimes there on the hunter's frame. *Shudder* Yuck! D:

I'd much rather they'd just changed the old Aspect of the Viper to give us 50% increased focus regen or something, rather than replace it with a fox (EWW!) and giving it something as comparatively useless as running autoshots.

Foxphobia? O.O Seriously lol? THEY'RE SO CUTE.

Although to be fair, I wish they'd change the Aspect of the Hawk icon... It's ugly. I was very disappointed having to go back to it from Dragonhawk >.<

What's really funny is that they have a fox icon for the Aspect of the Fox ability, but the icon for the hunter pet fox is...a tail? Why not use the same icon? It's not like you'll get them mixed up.

The warlocks can just nuke just about anyone and there really isn't much you can do about it. There are times where I swear they have some cheating macro of some sort because the amount of spells they toss on you in such a short period of time isn't possible due to global cooldowns. The pet's coming out @ 6k health is rather annoying for sure.

No, rats I can tolerate. We had a family of them in my old house. They were quiet and left us alone. Foxes are... Ugh. *Shivers* They're hideous little evil pests who all deserve to die and have their corpses burnt. Not very reasonable, but surely you know what phobias are like?
