Magnakilro's Guide to Solo Farming the Blue Proto Drake

Unread post by Magnakilro »

Hello ppls, places and things! Welcome to part two of "Why Am I Wasting My Life on Things Like This When I Could be Raiding BWD?" (Answer: Because you like me and happily accept my help.)

Yesterday I created a guide to solo Slabhide, the drake boss in Stonecore, for the beautiful Vitreous Stone drake he drops.

Today, we are going to a far less dangerous area.

We will be delving into King Ymiron's lair of Utgarde Pinnacle to destroy his right hand man, Skadi the Ruthless in the hopes that we'll be able to save a proto drake from it's evil master!

Note: This mount only drops on roic.

This will NOT be as long or hectic as the Slabhide one....but it can get pretty intense a few times.

What You'll Need:

BM spec (really helps with pet tanking)
a Turtle or Beetle
Lvl 85 (for Camo)
Difficulty set to Heroic

Ok! Now that you have that, let's begin!

Head to roic UP:

Step 1: Camo past everything you can, killing trash that attacks you.

Step 2: Camo past Svala to the doorway on the right, near where you come down the steps

Step 3: Camo past more trash packs and through the trophy room to Skadi's room

Step 4: Activate the Skadi Gauntlet.

Step 5: Kill vrykuls till you get 3 harpoons

Step 6: Reset encounter by running back to trophy room. ((This step, along with 7 and 8 are optional))

Step 7: run a ways past Skadi's spawn point, and heal up.

Step 8: restart Gauntlet, and camo as far as possible before you get attacked

Step 9: Kill attackers then continue to the back area with harpoons

Step 10: kill the four adds here and any that run in, then wait at the guns.

Step 11: When Skadi is in range, use all 3 guns to shoot down Grauf

Step 12: kill any remaining adds

Step 13: Kill Skadi. Easy fight....just stay away from his Whirlwind attack (he moves while doing it)

Step 14: Sacrifice a gnome, then loot boss and pray there is a mount. If a mount is yours, squeal with delight then fly off into the sunset on your new mount.

Step 15: If no mount, come back tomorrow and do it all over again.

Step 16: ?

Step 17: Profit

I wish you all the best of luck ^_^

Damnit, wrong topic to write that in. Anyway, I've been doing Skadi for a while now. Personally I find it super easy and even relaxing. ^^

Why not slap on their +Rep Tabbard, kill the easy trash mobs too, and grind out a Red Drake Mount whilst hoping for your Blue Proto-Drake to drop?

I don't mainly because I already got every Northrend faction to exalted during Wrath itself. ^^' Also afaik you only get rep from level appropriate dungeons.

I see no need to reset the encounter, its very much manageable doing it normally, and i can only imagine that resetting it would prolong it.

The resetting is optional if you don't need it...but if something happens, and you need a breather....go for it XD

I love you so much for making this guide xD Now, to solo the place every single night for the rest of my life, or until I get the mount. The rest of my life is far more likely, considering the luck I've had with the Raven Lord on my druid.....

The resetting happens because it's only you + pet, and you can quickly become overwhelmed by adds if you don't dps them down fast enough; when I tried I was swarmed by atleast 30.

It's also dooable with a Shale Spider- the squeaks will fill the whole instance but you don't need a turtle or a beetle tbh if you don't like them. This isn't ZG thank god.

This is easy to over come by using your cool downs at the start. Normally I will run in full throttle, and collect at least 1/2 the amount of adds in the gauntlet. Before hand I will mend pet and Misdirect while I'm running into the gauntlet, and send in my pet (I normally use a Spirit Beast for the damage boost and Skadi does not hit all that hard to warrant a tanking pet. I throw and explosive trap at the pack and then BW 1st, then rapid fire, call of the wild and start spamming multi. With the focus reduction to your multi due to BW, the boost by Rapid, the extra damage of COTW and Explosive ticking underneath, then pack goes down really fast. Just keep spamming Multi and don't forget to keep using MD to keep the pack on your pet. After the initial wave is down, the rest of them are kinda cake.
