A silly question, maybe. What did I miss?
Heya,
This is probably a silly question but here goes:
O.k, back at level 80 we got the ability to call a pet from the stable without having to go to the stable master. I thought that once you got to 85, that it would be back. I'm pretty sure I've trained everything I can train, but I still don't have it. Do you have to go someplace special to get that ability back? Or are we just not able to do that any more? Or is there an icon somewhere in my spell book that I need to move onto my action bar?
Thanks in advance.

That was removed i believe, since we can carry 5 pets with us now all at once, therefore no longer needed. :3datgrl wrote:Heya,

There should be a whistle icon on the BM page of your spell book. Click it near where the little gold arrow is pointing sidewards. That's where your five call pet whistles are for your five active pets.
With Cata, you have five active pets on you always. The other 20 pets are kept in the "stable" and you can swap between active and inactive. Each of the five active slots has its own whistle.
Hope that helps.

Yes, I have access to 5 pets
I'm miffed that they took away such a nice, convenient feature and now I'm limited to only 5 pets. I thought it was something we were getting back at some point. Thanks for the help.

Highly doubtful. You have 5 pets now, hun. 5....when we used to only carry around 1. A trip to the stablemaster isnt really all that often, believe me when I say this.datgrl wrote:Yes, I have access to 5 petsI'm miffed that they took away such a nice, convenient feature and now I'm limited to only 5 pets. Re: A silly question, maybe. What did I miss?
You can have up to 25 pets, but only 'carry' 5 with you at any one time. To swap out the ones you have with you, you need to visit a stablemaster.datgrl wrote:Yes, I have access to 5 petsI'm miffed that they took away such a nice, convenient feature and now I'm limited to only 5 pets. While it'd be nice to be able to access any of those 25 while out questing/instancing/whatever, selecting a particular one out of a popup of 25 could be a right pain in the butt.

In a way, it's the same thing considering in Wrath we only had five pets
And the new way is better because you can use it in combat.

I guess it's just a matter of what appeals to you. I prefer to have the ability built in and not have to go back to a stable master
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: A silly question, maybe. What did I miss?
Keep in mind that the number of active slots was always intended to scale from 1-5 as you leveled; back before patch 4.0 they just accomplished that goal with (steeply) rising gold costs, with the idea that by the time you could afford the cost of the next slot, you would be higher level, finally being able to afford the 5th slot at or near cap lvl, which was of course level 60 back when this was implemented, but had fallen out of step since the cap had been raised.datgrl wrote:I guess it's just a matter of what appeals to you. Under the new system your stable slots still unlock as you level, with the last 5th slot becoming available at cap level - but now it's hardwired so that you can't get the slots earlier with twink cash or just by spending lots of time farming AH sells, etc. So it's the same basic idea as before, overall.
And ofc as everyone else noted, all of this is now accompanied by (in my view anyway) the awesome new ability to store up to 20 more pets with the stable master.

They didn't take away a nice, convenient feature--they made it better. Before, we had access to 5 different pets on a 5 minute cooldown. Now we have access to 5 different pets with no cooldown.

Though must say it was useful when some random rare pops up unexpectedly, aka you werent looking.. and you only have your keepers on you, it was nice to be able to go into the stable to get one you could release.

Re: A silly question, maybe. What did I miss?
I can see where datgrl is coming from. The feature of not having to go to the stable to get your pet was a nice thing. So if you fill the whole 25 slots, then you can select from the whole list instead of the current 5 you have available.
I also like the new way we get access to pets. I do keep my active bar up with the 4 pets I want to play with for the day, (one slot open in case I find something I want to tame) but I don't object in going to the stables to swap them out. If you think about it... the current way you can get a different pet from your list immediately. The stable call had a wait of what, 30 minute, or was it 5 near the end... Can't remember anymore before you could get a different pet out. Would be nice if we could have both, but we can't have everything can we.

^This. I always leave a free slot in my active lineup unless I am absolutely certain I won't be running into any rares.Jin wrote:Mmmm, I never carry 4 keepers with me :p

Re: A silly question, maybe. What did I miss?
I think datgrl was more talking about dialing pet stabling back to pre-4.0 status e.g. back when we had call pet but only 5 stable slots. Get something / lose something, etc.Foru21dr wrote:I can see where datgrl is coming from. The feature of not having to go to the stable to get your pet was a nice thing. Having both call pet and the new 20 slot cap is kinda like saying it would be nice to have both explosive shot and platemail proficiency...

can you see though if we could have both... active pets at beck and call and swapout of pets with stable call. Yes.. get my cake and eat it too.Worba wrote:I think datgrl was more talking about dialing pet stabling back to pre-4.0 status e.g. back when we had call pet but only 5 stable slots.
