Pet Question - Spirit Beasts
I have been checking on these beasts several times a day now for over a week and I have yet to see a single one. I am a little surprised because I figured that Northrend wouldn't be very busy and the chances of finding one of the spirit beasts would be pretty good. Not only have I not seen any during this time of searching, but I don't think I have ever seen one in all of the time I have been playing WoW, which includes several level 80s during WotLK.
So, my question is do all spirit beasts (Gondria in particular) despawn after a few minutes? I mean I know they have a lengthy respawn timer of 6-10 hours, but once they spawn do they hang around for just a few minutes, despawn and then respawn after another period of 6-10 hours if no one tames them or kills them?

I think Loque despawns, but I'm not entirely sure about the others.
They're still rare though, sadly! Most questing lowbies just spot the rare elite tag and gank 'em for shinies. Even though Northrend is emptier; they're still killed or tamed by passing hunters, usually within minutes!

Re: Pet Question - Spirit Beasts
Yeah. A lot of hunters still want their spirit beasts, so while they're not as camped as they used to be, one hunter per day is still enough to keep them gone! Especially when it comes to the collectors who want one of each.
Don't give up hope! The luck of the Petopia 'Where are you?' post will find you, I'm sure.

Rare spawns typically do not despawn. That is a myth
There are conflicting reports on the TLPD -- but as far as tameables, no. They do not despawn.
Many don't last due to they stand out and folks kill them -- for achievements or thinking they are for achievements (example: Loque is an achievement. Gondria is not)

Re: Pet Question - Spirit Beasts
I dunno if Loque is only supposed to despawn if he isn't tagged but I held him tagged for maybe 20 minutes and he didn't despawn during that peroid.
I can say that before Cata, I had never seen a single spirit beast except the Loque I tamed that I had camped on and off since Wrath release for. Between post-Cata and now, after camping for each once plus random fly-bys while filling up Frostbitten, I saw Arcturis twice, Skoll and Gondria three times each, and Loque an extra time, plus Aotona twice, and King Krush once, so I think they are certainly easier to find, but as Kurasu says even one hunter looking means they won't be up, plus they do stand out and people are especially likely to kill Loque (for the achieve), Skoll (during Time-Lost camps), and Arcturis (due to his closeness to a town). However, Gondria is likely the easiest, so if you want her in particular or any of them, try going for her. Personally I wouldn't camp though, do random flyovers of all her spawns.

I guarded an untagged Skoll for about half an hour yesterday. No idea how long he'd been up when my lock flew over. He showed no sign of getting bored with his back and forth pacing while we waited for his future master to get there.

I think any rare "despawning" happening in the game, has to be because of phasing. I've observed Loque an Gondria quite a few times for longer than 15 minutes prior to them getting tamed (there's no phasing in their spawning areas as far as I know). If a mob is pulled into another phase from yours, it will disappear you won't get to see the corpse (Madexx, grr >.> ).

download NPCSCAN and NPCSCAN overlay, you may be looking in the wrong areas too. They're out there. You just may have to camp for them sometimes a lil bit, or keep the fly bys going

Regarding phasing and Madexx - either I'm missing something or I'm just really blond, but what phasing is there in his area? I have watched sooo many people doing the three quests I remember doing there - the guys on camels, the scorps and the named dude. I know there is phasing at the piller near by though.

The whole area in the vicinity of the Obelisk, the stairs that lead to it and the canal (that spot is a horror show with ores and flowers. >.< ) and I think the quest area near Ramkahen is phased as well? I could be wrong.Celi wrote:Regarding phasing and Madexx - either I'm missing something or I'm just really blond, but what phasing is there in his area? Ahh right. So just one of my blond, lack of notice moments... long moment >.<
Re: Pet Question - Spirit Beasts
The ONLY rare that despawns and has been reported to do so is Aeonaxx or whatever the dragon is. All other rares do not despawn, they just reset if their target dies, disppaears/vanishes/drops threat/runs out of aggro radius. There might be something to the myth if someone was poorly phased somewhere OR saw the rare and then it was tamed or killed and skinned barely moments after they left and or moments after and before they returned.Phyra wrote:Rare spawns typically do not despawn. And Koroner if you want a spirit beast you're either A: going to have to camp to boot or B: enlist some friends for flybys [it's how I obtained Skoll today and Gondria the day before]. Or just as I said camp a zone, atm Zul'Drak and Storm Peaks are silent on my server, outside of the TLPD campers and whatnot, and even outside of a few people coming for eggs, the basin is quiet too.
If you're really after an SB, I suggest you just camp, it's not gonna be fun or easy, but here. *rubs off some luck onto Op*
Loque needs to go stalk other people now.

Re: Pet Question - Spirit Beasts
Koroner, I have seen you camping Arcturis, and I don't know if you read everything on here, but a few days ago I posted that I made an Arcturis spawn for a camper...and it was the ally camper who was sitting with you for most of the day! >_> I guess you had given up and gone to bed.
If you are recently checking spawns and not seeing anything, it might be because I am actively checking everything at the same time you are. In the last week on Zul'jin, I have seen King Krush killed once and I tamed him once, tamed Loque, tamed Skoll once and guarded him for a friend to tame once, guarded Gondria three times for other people to tame. I also know of one other Loque tame, one other Skoll tame, and the aforementioned Arcturis tame. They are there!
Next time I run across one, I will hop over to horde side and see if you are around.
