Spirit Beast Emotes

Don't change them. I love when my spirit beast nuzzles me! The crab is just...confused and that's ok.

Writing New Spirit Beast Emotes Due To GC - Yes? No?

Unread post by Teigan »

So, now that I have tamed GC, I am seeing the very cringe-worthy problems I knew would be there. 5 mammals and a crab in one family and no way to differentiate the emotes. So, I am pondering...do I basically gut the emotes for this family trying to make it work for a crab and 5 mammals? Or, do we continue to have extremely confused and delusional crabs?

It might be sort of a fun challenge to think of emotes that give no real clue as to the body type of the pet in question. You could rely heavily on obscure actions and feelings rather than direct references to details that don't fit.

Anyways, I think it would be kind of neat, and add an air of mystery to the Spirit Beast emotes which would differentiate them from the other pets. However I see absolutely nothing wrong with leaving them as is, just that it could be a nifty project if you felt like it. :3

Hmm I could see a crab nuzzling someone. o.o

I don't honestly see anything wrong with it.

I like them just the way they are. Unless we have more like Ghostcrawler, I don't see why the majority of spirit beasts have to suffer because 1 doesnt fit with the other 5. I'd say majority in spirit beasts rules in this. I don't want to lose my affectionate fuzzy spirit beasties. Also there are people who don't even want Ghostcrawler. Should we punish them too by ripping them of the loving emotes we know and love and worked hard to come up with?

I hardly see it as a punishment. The emotes are a fun, encompassing addon that do their best to incorporate all skins within a family so that the actions of the pet fit the creature.

I have a feeling the Spirit Beast family is going to continue to grow, and with each addition there is the likelihood that another type of emote will be rendered false next to the beast type. First we only had felines....then a wolf was thrown in, then a bear. 3 mammalian beasts with similar body structure and fur, it was easy enough to find some similarities. Then we get a crab. I wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves with a flying or bird type soon, and then possibly a reptile. The Spirit Beast family is unique in the fact that the base creatures are limitless. Any type of animal can be a Spirit Beast, so I imagine the emotes will have to go through continued modification in the future.

I have a feeling you are right, Veph. I might as well start trying to accommodate for it now.

Why not modify them when the time comes? I feel it's too soon. We're destroying the emotes of 5 mammals over 1 single crab that isn't exactly the most popular amongst spirit beasts. When we get 2 or 3 non-mammalian spirit beasts, I can see a change needed. But right now? Doesn't feel right.

I'm noticing how Karoma, a wolf, seems to be overlooked....cause everyone says 4 mammals, not 5....x.x;

Besides, nuzzling crab is cute. Makes him more worthwhile in bonding.

Just so people are confused...

Mammals
Loque'nahak(Snow Leopard)
Skoll(Northrend Worg)
Gondria(Saber Tiger)
Arcturis(Bear)
Karoma(Wolf)

Non-Mammals
Ghostcrawler(Crab)

Teigs said 5 mammals in the first post. I said 3 mammalian beasts as in three types total...feline, wolf, bear. Individually there are the five, yes.

This made me LOL.

I voted for keeping them the same, however, I do not have this addon. Is this the same addon that was mentioned in the top of this forum? Where can I find it? I think it would be fun to have pet emotes. :D

Ah. I misread that then. Still, the list can help people compare.

I got along with this. I think if you put it more along the lines of being in the spirit world phasings, glows, glazing in distance, it would go more along the lines of a spirit beast. I think you should change/modify what is currently there

Okay, I added this and am still not entirely sure what to do with it. Are these going to randomly generate emotes while idle or something? Or do I have to type/make a macro that says "/pe random" when I want him or her to do something?

Thanks again - sorry for deviating a bit from the original thread.

Once I have more experience with this addon hopefully I'll be able to give a better opinion as to whether or not the spirit crab emotes should be different. hahaha.

Last question- are these emotes specific to each type of family? I downloaded the addon, the editor, and Teigan's zipfile. Just not entirely sure what to do from here on. :)

Download it and unzip it to your addons folder. :)

It's then idle and does it randomly automatically but you can type an emote yourself if you'd like by using the /pe command. Also you can switch up the gender of your pet too.

no macro tis needed! ^_^

And yes, each family is different.

Woohoo!

I think once I'm not hovering on my wyvern in Burning Steppes and am actually doing things in the world with a pet out, I will enjoy it more.

Last question:

With the editor- does that need to be in the PetEmote folder, or just in the addon folder of WoW itself?

Thanks again!

I vote keep it as is. Because people can go in and edit the custom emotes for the GC correct? I know I went in and made a new set of magma themed emotes with Inferno (Terrorpene) as the base, to avoid any of my non-magma turtles spouting out fire. I'm just waiting to figure out a name for the GC before I begin to get a set of emotes for him together.

Maybe instead of editing it all together we could have a list of emote ideas for other people? Or (if its not too much trouble) have one set of SB emotes including GC and one not. I personally have no issues with the emotes... the only one that has made me cringe is when it says paws. But like Veph said, the SB family is probably going to grow and gain new species to it's list, making it harder and harder to do emotes.

Like I said I have no preference whether you edit the emotes to include our little sparkle crab or not, because I'm going to make my own list anyways. :)
Rejoined the hunt after a lengthy break... feels good!

I think it has to stay in the PetEmote folder but I could be wrong.

Hehe. It'll bring your pets to life.

This is the first I have heard of this, need to check out the link and get more familiar with this. I assume its a text emote editor and not an animation editor (if that were even possible).

It's just text.

I vote for going ahead and getting it ready for any future spirit beasts. Imagine when we get Spirit Beast Illidan. Getting nuzzled by a huge demon isn't something I look forward to.

Officially.
