We've discussed pets we have...

Unread post by Snowwalker »

What about pets we don't have?

If you could add a pet family to the game, what would it be, and what special ability, if any, would it have?

I think a weasle family would be neat. I'd love to have a ferret. As for a special move... Perhaps a dodge, or anklebite move. Or even a pickpocket. Ferrets love to run off with things.

Tazmanian Devil and Kangaroo (Marsupial Family), Giant Frog/Toad (Amphibian Family), Praying Mantis, Hippo ~ any of these would be a nice addition.

As for what's already in-game, my vote goes to hippogryphs, wyverns, gryphons, and hydras.

Might not be feasible as an actual hunter pet but I would love, love, LOVE to have a Sugar Glider minipet ... just in case a special "lurker" is reading this ;)

Basilisk. I was shocked when these were not one of the new pet families.

Ungulates.

I'll be QQing for Ungulates (Zhevras especially) until we get them or I die, whichever is first. I have been wanting to tame Swiftmane for as long as I can remember. And I watch him now and then.

Please let me tame Swiftmane, Blizz!

Do you mean beasts that are currently un-tamable, or creatures that aren't in the game at all? O.o

For beasts currently in the game, I want thunder lizards. Big stompy (well, not audible stompy) stegosaurus friend in green. Yes, please. Special ability - some kind of chain lightning that puts an increased magic damage taken debuff on the targets it hits. Most likely Tenacity tree.

For creatures not in the game at all, hrmz. RATS! I want a giant pet rat. That would be awesome!!! :3 Okay, so they're in the game, but as critters. :) For a special ability - something like "deep bite" that increases bleed damage taken by the target. Since the two pets that do this are both in the Tenacity tree, let's make rats Cunning! :)

Off topic but...you're from my server! :D
I recognized the name Snowwalker (seen you around before, think the name is awesome for a tauren, by the way) and I got curious to see if you're the one from Suramar. You're the reason I went looking for the petemote addon, funnily enough. I remember seeing your pets emote stuff and I was like "I want my pets to do that too."

Anyway, sorry. On topic: Ferret pets would be pretty awesome. I could see them doing a disarm or pickpocket ability. Anatomically correct bears would be cool too (like the one in the vanilla cinematic). They should add butterflies into the moth family. >_>
And maybe a creature that looks like the aliens from the movie Alien. XD

On-topic: Well, basilisks and hydras are a given.

Basilisks could be regular Tenacity pets with a special ability of Petrification/Petrifying Stare/Petrifying Glare that would a be a ranged 2 second stun; basically, a Shale Spider for you non-Beast Masters. The ability would use the same spell effect and sound effect as a Dwarf's Stoneform. In mythology, basilisks are well known for lethal glares, and I have observed some basilisks in the game using similar abilities.

Hydras would be exotic Cunning pets (I pick Cunning simply because there are only two exotic Cunning pet families), with an exotic ability called Blessing of the Hydra that would function just like Water Breathing and Unending Breath, and a special ability called Steal Armor that would function just like Tear Armor. An entire tray of brownie points to whichever developer creates a spell animation where for each application of Steal Armor, one of the three hydra head strikes the target, and comes away with a piece of armor on its head. I'll throw in a batch of cookies as well if the and right heads come away wearing puldrons, and the center head comes away wearing a helm in a silly manner (second to last panel). I have a kleptomaniac dog IRL that loves to steal socks; Cialbi wants a kleptomaniac hydra that loves to steal armor!

I've always been very surprised by the fact that there isn't a giant rat creature in WoW, nor any rodent really (excluding the critters). They seem to be a rather common staple of fantasy worlds, and I would *love* to have a badass looking rat as a pet, personally. ^^

Most of my other favourite animals are already represented (Hydras and Stags are the only two I'm really pining after for pre-existing beasts), other than that...hmm...I can't think of anything else.

Eh tbh I don't want Hydras in the cunning tree. Chances are they'd only get a caster slow and I really, really don't want that. I mean it's more pvp situational and even then it doesn't really do wonders. And on bosses/instances it really doesn't work well either.

I see Hydra's either in Ferocity or Tenacity and Basilisks in Cunning or Tenacity, but Hydra's don't strike me as cunning, while Basilisks do. Why's that?

Hydra's are all about stomping you in the face. In outlands, there are Basilisks who play dead.
I'll be QQing for Ungulates (Zhevras especially) until we get them or I die, whichever is first. I have been wanting to tame Swiftmane for as long as I can remember. And I watch him now and then.
And Rams, Talbuks, Horses.

Gief horses blizz.

Veph: No, please no, no rats, no. I hate rats, I detest rats, we have HUGE rats here where I live and they can get so bad we actually need to put poison down. Infact we have to put poison down to keep the rats in check because if we don't, Rattlers move in and decide I herd u had rat problem?.

I almost had a rattler fall on my head, we saw eachother face to face D:

I see your point on Hydras, and changed my mind. Still don't have a clue about their special ability, though - the kleptomaniac idea doesn't really make much sense (it's more of a fun idea). But, unless Hydras aren't going to be exotic, I don't see them getting a caster slow since another exotic pet family has that for a special ability.

On another note, I had a feeling that someone would pipe up with against the rat/rodent idea, given how hated the creatures are. Granted, there are tamable spiders in WoW...

Heh, never said anyone had to agree with me, but the thread asked what each of us would choose personally. ;) I happen to love rats. They're amazing, intelligent animals, and I wish I could have them where I live.

Personally, rather than adding more all-new mobs to the game, I'd rather utilize what we already have. Hydras (YES!), Basilisks (YES! again), Mana Wyrms (already a ton of skins!), hooved mammals/stags/whatever you would want to call them, I'm sure there's other big groups that could make for nice tameables. That's what I would rather have, rather than trying to shove a whole new bunch of mobs into the world!
Come see Kurasu's stables!
