Hitting 20, and finding my companion
Today was great, finally hitting 20, and going on my long and drawn out search for the infamous Ghost Saber. After learning my new talents, I set off for him, heading towards Darkshore, and those ruins. Finishing off the pisky trolls that worked there. I opened my first cat statue, nothing. Second, nothing. Third, nothing. Fourth, got it. I was so excited when it appeared, I completely forgot how to tame something, looking through my action bars, finally taming him. But something clicked in my head, this was it, my life long companion. Something struck me telling me that this was the pet that will serve as your friend. Is it? I mean it's not uber rare, and nothing special about it's abilities. But something clicked, and I think he might be it. Still need a name, feel free to throw one out there. Pic:

My theme for names for my hunters are angels for Sahariel. I've found that a lot of angel names are really pretty...Ramiel or Sariel (which Sahariel is a variation on, lol) are pretty.
I like Metatron, the guy with all the eyes, too
You could try one of those. If you were on Dawnbringer I'd send you a Certificate of Ownership.

Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
There are some pets that will serve as long-term companions, and there are others that won't be with you for more than a week. There are some pets that you are so excited about taming, and yet, when you do, you feel like you regret it. There are those that you see while looking for ones you want, and you end up taking the skulking runt instead of the shiny rare, who, in their own little ways, make you all warm and fuzzy in ways the rares just...don't.
It all depends on how you are as an individual and how strongly you feel towards your pets! =) It doesn't have to be the rarest (Hell, I had a green spider from the Teldrassil starting ground for 30 levels), and it doesn't have to be the most useful (again, got ridiculed by everyone because I was using a spider for PvE. Kept getting whispers saying 'use a cat n00b!'...*sigh*), but if he means something to you, and you get that connection, then by all means he could be the one =) I wish you both the best of luck on your future adventures together. x

Thank you all, it seems Tyuriwen's words have inspired me. I will keep my Ghost Saber, until it feels the connection between us has been broken. But right now it is going strong, yes, I still get jealous when I see an 85 with king krush, sambas, spirit beasts, ect. But it seems as there missing the point of pets, there friends, companions, guardians, not a trophy. Thank you
Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
There's a reason that the red lynx from the BE starting zone is still one of my top favs. Yeah, I'll sometime pull out other pets for the utility, but Flameclaw is always in my active 5 list. I suspect you'll find the same with your Ghost Saber.

*bows* I said what I said from the bottom of my heart. It's what makes me love the hunter as a class, and the entire hunter community. =) The majority of us, as a collective, I would think would feel the same way as I. Yes it may sound sappy, but the pride we show and the love we give to our pets makes us a little different to other classes, I think. =)
And as Slickrock said, you may find other pets, but you can always carry him with you. <3

A little late, since you're already keeping your saber, but I've run with mine since level 19. She was my second pet and I'm terribly attached, regardless of how many other people do or don't run with ghost sabers.
Honestly, it seems like half the hunters on my server have Winna's Kitten, and it's very very boring.

I find that green tiger to be very ugly.Kalliope wrote:A little late, since you're already keeping your saber, but I've run with mine since level 19. She was my second pet and I'm terribly attached, regardless of how many other people do or don't run with ghost sabers.

It was cute to have around for Christmas-time because of it's look (some say the stripes are orange but they look more red to me)
Echeyakee and Humar are the only pets I've had since level 16 & level 23. I've cycled through quite a few other pets but these will always stay with me.
I use Humar now as my raid pet and he's a beast. ^_^
Some of the best companions aren't because they're rare. There's just something about their look or the way you feel when it's out beside you as you're running around that something feels so right. As long as they're special to you, that's all that matters.
Being a Hunter is like Pokemon.
I gotta tame em all!
It's a good thing I love Pokemon, too!

Yep! My signature pets aren't rares (Ursa, black bear, and Gumbo, gray crocolisk), but they are well-loved regardless.Pwncess wrote:Some of the best companions aren't because they're rare. Agreed. Though I feel a really strong bond with Arccy, I have Deadlock - a black wind serpent - and has since my mid 30s when I soloed to her.Dna wrote:Thank you all, it seems Tyuriwen's words have inspired me. Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
Congrats on your new friend! And I agree, a pet can be a rare or non-rare, it doesn't matter, it's what you like. Two of my four favorite pets are non-rares. Echeyakee has been with me for literally years (minus a brief period of time where I let him go and finally got him restored), and my red spider from Zul'Gurub is another favorite of mine. I had the opportunity to exchange her for Naraxis, the rare in Duskwood of the same skin, but had grown so attached to my "normal" pet in such a short amount of time that I just couldn't do it.
So, rarity isn't everything.

Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
i dunno if your sappy like me but i was going through my D&D Elvish binder and 'Friend' turned out to translate into Mellon in elvish (friend completely hit me in the head as if that was thee name) and i found Love which is Mela
As a verb however, 'To Love' would come out:
Mele (past)
Mela (present)
Meluva (future)
Melaya (conditional)
Edit: completely zoned about the fact that i actually too own a ghost saber, have had her for coming up 4 years now
i named her Meow cause i was 15 and wasnt very imaginative at the time with anything that didnt have to do with drawing or painting or sculpture etc.) They are gorgeous cats arent they!?! I dont like the cat models much anymore but shes to die for

Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
Ghost Saber was my first tame too, I named her Mathystra, after the ruins she's found in. Served me very well thru my early levels. She is still in my stable, but has been replaced by Duskfang (Nemesis) as my main dps kitty.
Re: Hitting 20, and finding my companion
my pet i was desperate to get when i first started playing was echyakee. i lvld like a mad man till 16 then i tamed my friend for life. iam a freak about me and my pets matching colors lol. my trolls war paint matches my cats and wolf. i have just tamed humar on my new worgen baby hunter. i was very happy with my new hunters pet we match and are complete to challenge till 85.
better to burnout, then to fade away!
