Thinking of getting a Ravager for a non-BM spec...

Unread post by Pent »

Let me first make sure of one thing... Ravagers aren't exotic are they?

Ok... now... if they aren't exotic is a Ravager a viable pet for MM spec? Would I get laughed out of the group if I didn't whip out a cat or a raptor?

If the Ravager's special ability sucks for MM and I wanted a Raptor instead... which "special" raptor do you think would look nice?

The Ravager I am going after is the Death Ravager, the raptor choice i sin the air but would like a fairly uncommon skin for him... or is there another pet that is a non-cat and non-wolf(and if I was going wolf I would probably get Snarler) that would be a good choice for MM spec. (I have Sambas, but I want to use something different, really)

Thanks for the input.

No they are not exotic (only in looks :P)

And yes, I use mine for my MM offspec spec. No I don't get laughed at. And yes Death Ravager looks amazing as far as they can :P

As far as Raptors, I am partial to the gray old world style (http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/raptorskingrey.html) But I would look at your char to see what would look good next to you :P

And you get my thumbs up for Snarler XD

Ravagers would probably help MM a lot. They increase physical damage, which is your white hits. SV is mostly elemental so it's not so great for them. The only thing I would say is that cat > wolf > ravager. I sat at a target dummy for a bit and that was the order my DPS went in. Cat was best, then wolf then whatever I had. The raptor decreases armor by 12%. I haven't had mine out in a bit since I've been leveling all my BM pets.

I love my ravager and would use him a lot in SV because other buffs were covered!

Seconding the grey raptor--Takk is a fun one to track down!

I have the death ravager and he's a ton of fun! I play as MM/BM and still trying to get my rotation down a bit better. I was never a huge ravager fan but this guy is AWESOME!

Awesome, thanks guys and gals!

I have Sambas, Oil Wolf, and the Knifed Lone Hunter... and as much as I really like the Knifed Lone Hunter, just because of his ghostly appearance and the dagger, I am not sure if he is a keeper.

I use to have Takk a lloooooonnnnnnngggggg time ago and I really really liked him.

I might be going out to abandon the Oil Hawk and Lone Hunter tonight to pick up the Death Ravager and Takk... we'll see.

I can't bring myself to abandon my Oil Wolf for Snarler quite yet... but I do still have a brown Madexx that I can easily dump in order to get Snarler... we'll see.

Yea Ravagers are good they do provide the 4% Physical Damage buff and it all depends on your grp comp. If you have Rets Dks or Warrs then the Ravager would be best. But if you have Mages Locks Spriest Boomkins or Ele shammies then a Wind Serpent or Dragon Hawk would be better. Its always best to carry a pet of every ability type just so you can provide some buff to the grp.

im biased towards ferocity pets, but cunning pets are about even. there's a buff flow chart in one of the stickies, just bring which ever buff your grp needs. if you raid 25m exclusively, then bring your favorite pet and not worry about buffs.

Agreed!

It just so happens that I usually bring my ravager for raiding these days, since the physical damage debuff tends to be the major one that we're missing.

Raptors are generally not going to be useful in a raid unless you have some combination of dk and pally tanks and general lack of sundering. Depends on the raid, of course!

As for looks, it depends on the hunter. ;)

Ravagers are just great all-around pets and my usual raid/instance pet, tbh. They do great damage, and you just can't argue with %4 damage increase. Other pets are situational; cats' abilities are great.... if you don't have warriors, dks, or shammies, for example... but everyone likes more dps! That and as Surv I'm usually a little focus starved, so having a cunning pet for Roar of Recovery is nice and helps smooth out the low points.

For that matter, I used to keep a windserpent on hand for raiding too... if my raid's dps were mostly casters, I'd pull her out to benefit them (on the theory that overall raid damage is more important than my personal numbers).

The damage gap between feroc and cunning is pretty small these days; no one's going to make a fuss unless they're a) uninformed, or b) you're bringing a cunning pet with a purely pvp-only ability (like a spider).

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

I love my ravager! Besides the lovely armor reduction debuff he brings (which is great, since most of my casually raiding guildies are melee oriented--lots of paladins and warriors), I've always loved the ravager animations. They're just so oddly adorable, and I love how they don't look like any other creature in-game and fit draenei so well to boot.
