I'm Alliance and I'd never do this. If I see a rare spawn I find any hunter and if it's horde I'd single them to follow me. Not kill the spawn. The guy may of found it amusing or was just being stubborn. I wouldn't repeatedly beg though ,it probably just made him more determined to kill Deth.

Pogeyan was the first rare I tamed on my main hunter. There's a quest to do with him too where you have to find his totem (he's the troll fire spirit or something) . I've seen a lot of people camping for him so I guess he's quite rare.
