They are in game friends that have been helpful in the past but there boyfriend and girlfriend. The gf had the worst reaction to me. She kept going "muahhaha" despite me saying I didn't find it funny. I'm pretty close to putting them both on ignore right now.

Dude, Adam, put them on ignore now. No one I am friends with, especially over the internet has EVER done anything like that to me. No one with any worth and value. Those had have, I dropped them faster than sin and basically let them know that was their one chance to be my friend, screw you, you're not worth it. For the most part it was somewhat pleasing to see them actually try and be remorseful.

Before I slammed the ignore on them.

And also I have to give you some points, you're being far more civilized than me; if it was me I'd have snapped Do you also laugh when babies die? and slammed ignore down on them >.>

Sadly, I have to say from my experience some people actually do laugh about babies dying. Even when you tell them it's only been (X amount of time) since you buried the tiny casket containing the body of your own newborn son, and that brand of "humor" is just too painful, they will still act as if you're making too big a deal about it, and you should learn to grow a thicker skin and get over it. The death of a child is not something that is possible to get over for a parent, no matter how much therapy you do, or how many pills you take, or how much you drink to numb the screaming pain. Disclaimer: I don't take pills or get drunk, but as someone who is in contact with many other grieving mothers, this is universally acknowledged that NOTHING makes it go away. Over time, the ache becomes less sharp, and you can regain the ability to laugh, but certain times of year, certain smells or sounds, will always bring a tear to your eye no matter how much time passes.

These same people will also crack jokes about suicide even after learning that your only brother put a gun to his head at 16 and took his own life, shattering yet another piece of an already broken heart.

Sorry, this isn't meant as a "poor me" post, more of a "people suck" post. You gotta weed out the toxic ones, grab on to the true friends for dear life, and try not to let the jerk-faces keep you down. Life is too short to give permission to toxic people to poison your relationships.

Wow just wow about the lol. People in my guild and my friends on my friends list know all about how hard it is to tame rares. They'd never lol about it. :/

One of the things I keep in mind when I hear these stories is for all the griefers and jerks out there there are more people who are nice and helpful. So, I get all angry when I hear about stuff like this, but then I go and remember or reread another story about someone being helpful to wash the bad taste out.

Part of me says that we should call it the "Baseball Mentality" in regards to the cheating/caught thing. :D

I've been lucky that my guildmates are somewhat supportive in my efforts to tame a rare...except for one of the other main hunters because he wants them too, and we kind of trade off on who is sitting for which rare. They mostly think I'm crazy for being willing to sit in an area for hours on end to tame these rares, but when I bring them to a raid, they all agree that they look awesome and contribute.

I do know that the problem with rares now is that it's made me slightly uneasy in communicating in open channels about one being up. I did consider last night telling other hunters in Sholozar that King Krush was up, but not even 1 minute after he spawned a shadow priest swooped in and killed him. I know in the past (and continuing into the future) I'm more than willing to communicate with other hunters via tells about where I found one of the rares and if they're looking for the same one but willing to let me have the camp, tell them either when I'm leaving the camp or if I got the rare so they have an idea on when to expect it to potentially respawn.

But yeah, I agree that if your friends are willing to start off addressing your disappointment by laughing at you, they might not be as good of friends as you thought they were.

Sounds like acquaintances rather than actual friends to me. Easy come, easy go.

I think I've seen this somewhere on the forums, but what if while tame beast was on a target, it became immune to all damage? Even better what if it reflected damage back to the person who was trying to kill the animal you were trying to tame? I know its highly unlikely that this will be the case, it's just a thought that made me giggle.

Like people have said, a grey quality item with a caption that basically says "hey, you're a jerk" really isn't going to deter people from killing these beasts.

As long as we're fantasizing... personally I'd like to see looting the crystalline tear deduct 25 gold from your character. And if you tried to loot it with less than 25 gold on you, it would give a message saying "You cannot loot this object with less than 25 gold in your inventory". Oh yes, and ofc vendors won't buy it... and it disappears from inventory like a conjured item, once looted.

Also, skinning the mob works the same way except it produces a conjured hide that vendors won't buy.

In other words, the ultimate doofus award.

Actually that would be nice- you and the target become immune to PLAYER based damage. Or that the beast is SO FOCUSED ON YOU it can't be pulled away.

Yeah but it'd let people know who to put on ignore lists.

And yet lots of people donate to charity, the world over (the US remains the top donater), so obviously empathy is alive and well - it's just underrepresented in wow, with its disproportionately high population of moochy, grubby little twits who are used to mommy and daddy cleaning up after them.

I played a warrior for years, used to help friends hunt down pets they were after then decided to roll my own hunter.
after reaching level 60 decided to start my adventure in rare hunting, over the last 2 years I've encountered not only other classes willing to grief for a kill but hunters that would grief for a tame.
The best example is Loque'nahak, I searched and camped for 4 and half months found the coveted cat 3 times, only to have it killed mid tame twice by other hunters (opposing faction but still not cool).
it's not just other classes that don't care it's also greedy players

I got a message earlier from the "friend" that thought it was funny to go mauahua even after I told her I failed to see the humor in it. "why aren't you my real ID friend". I replied that I removed her and bf. She then asked why and then said whatever after I told her that I was having a very bad couple days and they where not exactly helping.

You should just tell them flat out they aren't real friends- they're things that ruin the meaning of the word friends. Their definition isn't 'friends', it's... not for polite company.

As said none of my friends do this even to OPPOSING faction. These are probably pretty much the same people who'd kick a puppy just for laughs :/

Bleg. Those type of people don't seem to be able to transfer an awesome drop in a hard mode raid to a Hunter's excitement (WAY more permanent than any gear I might add) over a rare spawn pet.

Fortunately for me, my guildies are reaaaaaallllly good about informing us hunters about any rares they see and give us the first right of refusal before killing them.

I just see it as the perfect time to explain exactly why you removed them. People make idiotic mistakes. Since they were friends with you before this, they could easily seek forgiveness later. Who knows, maybe the tow of them were going through a tough couple of days, and weren't on their best behavior.
However, if they still don't get it, screw 'em. Enough time should have passed for them to realize that laughing at you wasn't the best idea, to say the least.

OK, enough with the cynicism. Please explain to me the cynical, self-serving motive of myself and others that are volunteer search & rescue workers. We buy all our own personal gear, and charitable donations go towards getting equipment for our unit such as rescue ropes and litters. We put ourselves through rigorous training, And not every mission is a happy ending; body recoveries are unpleasant and sometimes traumatizing (doesn't help when they lead a similar life as you do, have a similar age, etc).

Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine :?

You know, I wouldn't touch a mob that a hunter was taming. Probably not even an opposite-faction hunter (I'm not a PVP-er anyway).

BUT (And I'm sure this is something of an unpopular opinion here, so I'll brace myself for the backlash), I don't necessarily equate rare with hunter only. And trust me, I seek out the rares on my hunter, so I know about the excitement of taming them. But, there are nine other classes in this game. There is something to be said for the people that like to hunt rares. I've been in and out of that category many times. There's a certain little excitement to it, finding rares. (While I didn't find EVERY rare pre-shattering, I have found at least 90% of them). And not all of us are total jerks.

Like I said, I'm not going to screw over a hunter that's in mid tame. Bad karma aside, that's just not my personality. So I feel for you, and I know that people are jerks. But if I come across a rare first, I'm more likely than not, going to consider it my mob before I blabber to a bunch of random people in the zone, whom I've never seen and will probably never see again (if you're a friend or generally nice guy and I know you're looking, that's another story). I guess chalk it up to my completionist tendencies, my pvp server, and the general population of people on Illidan.

Still, for at least the start of Cata, and knowing that the rares aren't going to drop anything of significance (yes, my rare hunting stems more from a "gotta find them all" mentality, but some of the blues off of the Northrend rares could sell for a lot), I will probably be satisfied with just FINDING the rare, and leave it up for a hunter.
