Ah, very clever idea! If someone with a Hordie on Cenarion Circle wants to try this, post a time here and I'll let you know if I can make it. We can hammer out details over PMs.Redith wrote:NO WAY! I had made jokes about this about saying we should get birds that can go after PVP chars on their mounts....I thought I was going to have to get a seagull for this ability..But theres an EAGLE that can do it? I have to have. We should have a member of both sides of petopia meet somewhere to see if we can have our pet attack from the ground to a char on their fly mount, and see how high he will seek him.Grogann wrote:loch modan golden eagles also exhibit this behaviour.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
EDITED: I stand corrected. Immediately after taming it, the gull couldn't remember that it could fly. I mounted to ride somewhere, dismounted and tried again, and now he's working just fine. So apparently the newly-caught gulls forget the ability to fly until de-and-re-spawned.

Re: Seagulls can fly!
When I went and tamed a Golden Eagle from Loch Modan, then told it to go attack a high-flying buzzard, it pathed along the ground. Kinda disappointing.Kurasu wrote:I had to dismiss my old seagull (went to catch a pet and didn't have enough space, so I figured I'd temporary-dismiss and pick up another one). However, since I've caught this newest one, he doesn't seem to want to fly for me! Was this a bugfix? Or did I just catch a bum gull?

Later, I remembered that in the video, the player had his/her gull attack other gulls that were at eye level. So, I went to the Farstrider Lodge, and had my eagle attack one of the resting eagles on a nearby rock. Not quite the same as a flying bird, but I could tell if my eagle would path along the ground or fly straight to the target. Fortunately, he did the latter. After some testing with various eagles on rocks or in the air, I concluded that these eagles do indeed make a beeline to targets, and they will fly upwards to reach a target.
My guess as to why my eagle had to 'relearn' how to fly had to do with what happened right after the tame. I had noticed then that my bird was flying in a funny way, not switching between the idle animation and moving animation. When my bird began flying straight to targets, I had in the meantime dismissed, resummoned, and talented my eagle. I also noticed that my eagle wasn't stuck in the hover animation anymore, either.
So, my advise is for you to try again. I suspect that your bird will be a bit glitchy when tamed, but dismissing and resummoning seems to clear up the issue.

Off topic, has the ant shown any odd behaviors besides not angling properly with sloped terrain?

I'd put money on it being unintended: as someone pointed out on the first page, this is a big deal in PvP (or what passes for a big deal). How swiftly and ferociously they'll bring down the nerfbat on it, though, I cannot say.Wiborg wrote:Do you know if this pet is intentional on blizzards behalf? Should I hurry up and tame one?

Re: Seagulls can fly!
I think that we need to do some testing to see just how significant this is. More specifically, whether or not an eagle with Boar's Speed and 2/2 Mobility can catch a player with 225 riding skill (lowest skill at which a player can use flying mounts) and no boosts to riding speed from talents, items, or Crusader Aura.Wark wrote:I'd put money on it being unintended: as someone pointed out on the first page, this is a big deal in PvP (or what passes for a big deal). Although, even if this isn't possible, I must admit that this will still be a game-changer. If you're flying towards a hunter, and the hunter sends a flying pet to attack, you either have to evade or die. Seems kinda malicious to me; an unnecessary hazard to have to deal with. If only there was a way to keep this ability from being exploited in PvP...
