I'm still a bit on the fence now tho as we do have possible proof that this hot fixing may not have really happened. So until we get official word we should keep trying tbh.Dialga wrote:I tried it on the Hive Queen in Sholazar (30 second respawn, so a good guinea pig to see if they'll even stay with you when you hit the macro) about 35 times. I moved on to the Spirit Wolves for about another 20 or so, then Lone Hunter for about 7, then the Oil Hawks for... eh 15? None of the tames took, and I'd tamed about 12 or so special appearance pets before.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
Maybe fixed the ones with permanent look? I tried Lone Hunter and no can do. Eh, was fun while it lasted. I love unusual pets, and hope we get to keep the permanent ones we have. I took out my spirit wolf wanna-be to Deepholm, and quested. Knowing that if we die, we die. But I wanted that wolf so bad, that trying to watch him die broke my heart, so I kept us alive. I know the same skin is on Karoma, but I so wanted a WOLF with that skin. But, now I can say I quested with a ghostly wolf for a bit anyway.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I just tried several, not 15 minutes ago
One with a permanant appearance change with buff (oil wolf), one with a permanant appearance change without buff (fire pig), one with a temporary appearance change with buff (pink sparklestrider), one with a temporary appearance change without buff (green flaming crab), one with a damage dealing effect (blighthound).
They all still work.

That is with using the pet abandon macro spam right before the end of the tame correct? I just want to make sure i am doing it correctly.Synisse wrote:I just tried several, not 15 minutes ago

And do you just log out of that toon, or exist the game completely?
Wut?
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
yep, spammed it like one sec before the tame was up (it was taking me 50 tries previously because i was spamming it all through the pet cast bar, i bet that didn't help system lag and was probably the reason i failed so much)
and yep, just logged out.
Edit: now that I think about it it might've been between 6 and 9 hours ago i'll go try another one just to see

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I almost literally JUST tamed an oil wolf with the 'method' and it worked on the first try-
i really hope they don't hotfix this (unless it's maybe just with the two buffed pets that actually have a damage increase)
there's not a reason to :c
(if i missed something on the second page sorry, didn't see there were two pages till just now >< )

Bah, still can't get it to work. i have no idea what i am doing wrong

Wut?
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I haven't done this recently, but here's what I did:
Start taming. No frost traps here. While taming, spam the /script PetAbandon() macro.Spam all the way to the end, don't wait for a flash of light. At the end of the tame, your pet should just disappear.Exit wow.(or log out. I usually exit)
Log back in. Pet should be there.
The macro should still work, assuming I typed it right here. I used to abandon a corehound as practice for taming Terrorpene a few days ago. I hope they haven't hot fixed them yet!

Keep in mind, some realms will need to wait for a restart for the entire hotfix to go through.
Though honestly, (in my opinion) if Blizzard hotfixed one method of taming and keeping appearance buffs, that should be warning that these methods are frowned upon by Blizzard and probably not practiced further. But that's just me XD

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I systematically wiped out Tanaris' Fire Roc population via tame, and I can say for certain that it's not working on my server, Steamwheedle Cartel. I got 4 other hunters to join in on the attempts, and so far no luck. Perhaps the hotfix got skipped on some servers?

Agreed, be careful trying to do these if a hotfix is in place/is going in place so that you don't get in trouble.Rikaku wrote:Keep in mind, some realms will need to wait for a restart for the entire hotfix to go through.

if they do end up hot fixing it, i think we should all petition for them to bring it back.
having to constantly watch your pet so it doesn't die isn't really hurting anyone but the hunter, and it's their choice if they wanna do it :I

I disagree.Dizzy wrote:if they do end up hot fixing it, i think we should all petition for them to bring it back.

People tamed those pets knowing the risks (it was stated several times on the original thread) the risks death/arena posed to their altered-appearance pets. I don't agree with the idea to ask for an exploit to be returned just because that color/style is now 'retired' (I use that loosely) and players no longer want to be extra-careful with those pets.
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I disagree as well. This is obviously something Blizz didn't intend to stay in the game and they're fixing it. And take it with a grain of salt- at least you get to keep your buffed pet as a kind of vanity trophy. Those who tamed Garwal had him turned into a plain 'ol wolf.Dizzy wrote:if they do end up hot fixing it, i think we should all petition for them to bring it back.

I released my "spirit wolf" and glittery Plainstrider myself, figuring that Blizz would go the Garwal route and return them to "normal". But I did keep Baconator, my fire pig, just on the off chance that we'd get to keep some without the physical buffs on them, and I guess we do, which is great because I didn't really like any of the regular boars in game.

I still have a vivid memory of a friend pulling a snake pet out of his stables and having all our hunter friends drool over the fact that he still had it beacuse Blizz "didn't intend for it to stay in the game." =DMacha wrote:This is obviously something Blizz didn't intend to stay in the game and they're fixing it.
*shrug*
I'd miss the heck out of my flaming pigs (I, apparently like a lot of others, haven't found a boar model I liked in a LONG time), but with the damage-dealing component added in it's hard to say I didn't see this coming ... (or maybe "don't see what's coming." Whatevers)
Thanks to Pengupuff for the sig!

You mean, ignore the fact that outside of 3 pets, the rest were all harmless?Macha wrote:I disagree as well. This is obviously something Blizz didn't intend to stay in the game and they're fixing it.
To be honest if this is true, if the pets have been made unobtainable. Wow- just wow Blizzard. So far there is an alliance quest I have run into on Harp? Completely unable to be finished. And Game Mods won't help me do it. And there's never anyone around on Terrokar to help out either. What few players I did see eventually moved on as they were boa'd out to the max [so more exp faster kills faster leveling..]
On Yasindra I have run into about a dozen glitched, buggy or just plain BADLY IMPLEMENTED quests and or phasings.
But what does Blizzard fix? Do they fix the REAL problems? Noooo they evidently 'fix' sparkle pets.
Wonderful.
Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
Well as far as I can tell it is just a matter of timing the macro because I still can tame the oil stained wolf without issue, and just did it 5 minutes before this posting. It may be a matter of lag or just luck in not getting it off, but I kind of doubt that they would hot fix this before other more notable glitches.

Re: Pets With Appearance Buffs no longer tameable
I enjoy how some of the people on this forum are SURPRISED that Blizzard fixed this problem.
One of your own made a point to advertise on their forums quite loudly that there was a problem, while the rest of you clucked on these forums about how you wanted the "Lurker" to recognize that there was a problem, but that you were not a part of it.
Here's an interesting thought: The louder you are about a problem, the more it'll get looked into. When it turns out a problem existed, they'll fix it.
No, they're not going to remove the buffs from the ones in our stables. They'd have done it already as part of the hotfix, plus, I'm not sure they have that ability without wiping everyone's stables(can't imagine the backlash on that).
Short of changing how a pet is summoned, there was nothing they could do reasonably to kill our shiny pets.
If a bug isn't loudly pointed out, it will take time to get fixed. If there's a bug that you want to see fixed, don't submit a single ticket, submit four or five, or alternatively, ask to speak to a higher-up GM about your problem initially.
On the topic of the actual fix- It seems that they partially fixed it. They reduced the time gap you have where the bug is capable. I'm sure there's a reason they couldn't fix it entirely that has to do with how abandoning pets works vs. the mechanics of finishing a tame. In either case, the bug exists, but is much more difficult to replicate. Alternatively, how much have you guys tested with serpent sting method? It's something to look into.
If someone pointed out that a hunter could receive a damage buff from these pets to Blizzard, I'd be willing to bet that it has SOMETHING to do with them hotfixing it this quickly. However, I'm also willing to bet, it's a small reason. It's a relatively innocuous bug, the problem is when you guys yell about it to GMs to "make sure it's okay."
What did you think would happen? Really?
