Dear Journal,

We arrived at Teldrassil early in the morning, before the sun rose. We were lead to the night elf city of Darnassus, where we were introduced to what would be the new home of many. The Howling Oak was what it was called - a massive tree similar to the one back at Gilneas. It was in a quiet corner of the city, fairly out of the way. I decided to explore the rest of the city, until I came across a board with notices posted over it. One message caught my eye - one requesting the assistance of able-bodied members of the Alliance. A boat was to leave Darnassus to Stormwind, and from there a tram ride to Ironforge. I had nothing in Darnassus to leave, so I decided to answer the call. I packed my things and Ross and I headed to the docks of Rut'theran.

Image

It was a long journey. Stormwind was grand! A beautiful place indeed, provided you avoided the areas the cataclysm had ravaged. I should visit again sometime soon. I've decided to don my human visage within the cities and towns. I feel it greatly assists me in blending in, as I don't particularly feel like attracting curious eyes in a strange city. A bustling place it is, and the last place I would want to attract any attention. Ross seemed enthralled by all the scents and nearly chased after a young night elf druid that ran past us in her cat form. The human male that was with her gave us a frown as I held back the blasted, barking dog. Ross! That is not how you blend into a crowd!
The Deeprun Tram was fascinating, too - though I felt rather nervous as we passed through the undersea tunnel. I kept catching glimpses of massive moving creatures in the water. Ironforge was a sight to see as well. Strange, how small creatures such as dwarves and gnomes have a city with such massive ceilings. The warmth of the dwarven city gave the chill wind of Dun Morogh an extra bite when walking out of the gates. I stayed in my worgen form for much of the trek through the snow. My fur kept me warm enough to keep going, though my paws were horribly cold.

Image

I eventually came across a dwarf who went by the name of Hammerfoot. He told me that his friend had gone missing and asked me to try and find him. The man's mention of hearing growls from nearby worried me, but I went nevertheless. I found the man, but something had found him before me. Finding his journal and flipping through it, I found that he had been mauled by an unusually large bear. I had scarcely arrived at the scene when the culprit came charging out of the bush at us, clearly intent for another meal. Ross and I rid the world of the creature. I took its paw and the dead dwarf's journal and took the bad news back to Hammerfoot.

Image

The dwarf was deeply saddened, but requested that I go ahead to the next guard station and bring them a report. I went, as he wished. I feel some guilt for delivering the somber news and leaving immediately after, but I suppose there was nothing else I could do. I arrived at the Valley of Kings in Loch Modan and delivered the report. I was ordered to exterminate some troggs and collect their teeth. Ross and I did as such.

Image

Ross even sniffed out an unusual trogg - later on I learned he was Magosh, an important shaman among the troggs. He had been eluding the dwarven forces for some time now and they were relieved I had managed to hunt him down. I was sure to give Ross extra to eat for his next meal as a reward.

Image

We were then to dispose of the trogg leader, Grawmug.

Image

He went down, but the little hellion didn't die without injuring Ross first. The poor old boy was limping terribly, up until the point I had to carry him. I took him back to the inn where the local hunter helped me fix up his injured leg. The dwarves here are a very kindly people. Belda, the hunter who helped with getting Ross patched up, offered to keep an eye on Ross for me. The tavern was warm and cozy with its big hearth and seemed like a good place for Ross to recover. The old hound seemed to realize it too, settling himself by the fire and quietly resting his head on his paws. I bought him something to eat before leaving and promised to check up on him whenever I could. Belda told me she'd send a message should anything happen.

Image

I left the inn with a heavy heart, realizing how I had become so used to having Ross by my side. Just then, an odd glimmer of light caught my eye. It was just on the outskirts of the town and I decided to investigate.

Image

As I drew closer, I realized the light was moving in an erratic pattern. It was quite apparent, now that the night had fallen. The sound of a soft buzzing reached my ears and I realized, much to my surprise, that the light belonged to an animal. A twig cracked under my boot and the creature zipped into a nearby bush. Not particularly a good hiding spot, seeing how I could see the curious green glow past the leaves. I took a bit of food out of my pack in an effort to coax it out.

Image

Eventually, a pair of large, buggy eyes poked out of the bush. It was a massive firefly of sorts, and a hungry one at that. It waved its antennae at me before timidly hovering forward and nibbling on the slice of cheese I had offered to it. The food seemed to please it and it hovered by my side, poking at my pack for more. I'm no expert on bugs, but something about it strikes me as being female. I decided to give her the name of Flicker, thanks to that soft green glow she emanates.

Image

Flicker was able to help me with tasks I otherwise would've completed with Ross. She seems nervous to go into battle, but happily obliges should I give her some cheese in return. Together we collected some bear meat for the chef at the inn...

Image

... and collect gnoll ears (A horribly messy and smelly business. I highly recommend staying far away from these creatures' ears.).

Image

We took a small venture down to the banks of the dock, where Flicker's light helped me spot a piece of paper stashed beneath a dock. It appeared to be a document of sorts. I will hold onto it until we come back to Thelsamar.

Image

I reported to the Algaz station, from where I was ordered to kill some kobolds and investigate one of the dwarf's suspicions of a leader among them. Kobolds, if possible, are even more disgusting than gnolls. I hope I won't have to deal too much with them in the upcoming days. I did find a kobold that appeared to be of higher rank and dealt with him as was proper.

Image

I'm going to rest for the night at Algaz. Flicker is unused to being indoors and is skittish around the dwarves, but I expect that she'll come around eventually. Good night for now.

((Aw, Ross. ):

Still, Flicker is pretty neat! I like her. I forget you can do wasps early on (Eventually, I swear I will hunt down a green one and he will be my Soundwave.).

Oh, I love Flicker! Her name is wonderful. :)

On an entirely different note, it seems to me that people in large cities are often more quick to get used to new things... So I'd expect Stormwind citizens (Stormwindians? Heh.) to be more open to worgen than some small, isolated hamlet in the middle of nowhere. Of course that doesn't mean that Ross feels that way, and it makes sense to want to blend into the crowd, but that's what I thought when I read that section.

True, Sara, but I figured Mord hasn't quite realized that yet. I'm thinking he's still a bit self-conscious of his worgen self and feels that it attracts attention he doesn't want, even if it actually isn't. I figured that with all the suspicion new worgen were treated with back in Gilneas, he guessed that other races may feel the same way. He'll be coming around soon, but for the first tiny bit after Gilneas he's still adjusting. I'm sure that the mixture of the dwarves being awesome and seeing other worgen in the towns will help him realize that it's okay to be strolling around as his hairy self.

I can't believe how much I like Flicker! Originally I was going to tame a boar, but I couldn't find a single one that was level 15. I eventually settled for a wasp, but wasn't expecting to like her very much because I'm not too fond of bugs in real life and the wasp model's huge eyes kind of weird me out. She's surprisingly pretty, what with her soft glow and the sparkly dust that falls off of her.

Dear Journal,

Flicker and I were sent out on our next mission the next morning. We ventured out to the Silver Steam Mine, where kobolds had taken over. The dwarf told me they were going to send in warriors to take care of the kobolds soon enough, but they needed someone to retrieve the stolen supplies before they got ruined in battle.

Image

We were also supposed to find whoever their leader was. A bit to my surprise, it was not a kobold, but a gnoll. The foreman threw a burning lantern at Flicker and she was burned slightly, but thankfully escaped further injury by flying out and away from the fire. The dwarves seemed worried by the news of a kobold and gnoll allegiance and sent me to Thelsamar to speak with the dwarves there and formulate a plan. While there, I went to visit Ross. Belda told me he was healing, if a bit slowly. The old boy looked happy to see, if a little thrown off by Flicker buzzing by my shoulder. He didn't seem to know what to make of the big, glowing wasp.

Image

While the dwarves were talking, I went to visit Ross. Belda told me he was healing, if a bit slowly. The old boy looked happy to see, if a little thrown off by Flicker buzzing by my shoulder. He didn't seem to know what to make of the big, glowing wasp.
I then set out to find a man whose face had appeared on the town's wanted poster. Flicker and I tracked down the cave where the Dark Iron was supposed to be hiding. We found the spy, as well as another dwarf. He carried papers similar to the one I had found near the dock. The dwarves were quite pleased I had managed to kill the courier who had been delivering and taking stolen documents and letters and gave me good pay in return.

Image
Image

In the meanwhile, a dwarven woman had volunteered an idea to help with the kobold and gnoll problem. Apparently, murlocs were in the allegiance as well. I was chosen to go out and collect scent glands, of all things. The dwarf told me that the scent from the glands made the murlocs hostile and liable to attack. She provided me with a rather shabby disguise, from in which I crept up on what appeared to be a meeting between the three races. Flicker was a fantastic help - I had her take the glands in her legs and fly high above the murlocs, gnoll and kobold. She went unnoticed, seeing how she was a part of the local fauna. That clever little bug dropped the scent glands right on top of the gnoll, and the murlocs gathered into one group and attacked it! The kobold, as any proper kobold would do, ran off screeching at the top of its lungs.

Image

In return for her assistance, the dwarf requested that I fetch her crocolisk jaws, of all things. At least they grouped nearby to the condors in that area, whom I had been ordered to kill in order to control the disease they spread. The stench of the rotting threshadons was horrifying. I had heard that there used to be a grand lake here, but all the water had drained when the cataclysm had hit and destroyed the dam. A shame... it looked as though it had been a lovely place.

Image

I was then sent out to the excavation site northeast of Thelsamar. I was to help a trio of dwarves that had been making a delivery through territory that Dark Irons had been seen in. I found them and they told me that the third member of their group had betrayed them and was heading this way with a group of Dark Irons to steal the cargo of blasting powder. I helped the two dwarves fend off attackers and continued on my way to the excavation site. The dwarves and gnomes there requested that I kill off the troggs that had taken over the site and study the finds they had been forced to leave behind. What odd statues.

Image

When that was done, Flicker and I followed a path leading to a place known as the Farstrider Lodge. It was a pleasant little place nestled in the mountains where hunters gathered. They suggested I try my bow on the animals of the loch, either to control the populations or to retrieve parts that they needed for one reason or another. My first quarry was boars and wasps. Flicker didn't seem so pleased with me that I was killing her own kind, but food costs money and the wings and meat provided me with some coin.

Image

A gnome at the lodge, Safety Officer Pipsy, told me the dangers of stabthistle seeds and asked that I collect some seeds to rid adventurers of the danger. I honestly don't see how adventurers could accidentally step on the huge seeds. Picking them up, bah! I made an excellent pincushion. Blasted gnome.

Image

One of the dwarf hunters at the lodge asked that I hunt down foxes for their tails. Now, he knew the man to ask! I used to go on fox hunts with my father and his friends back when I was a boy. Together we brought back quite a few fine pelts. The foxes here are much quicker than the ones back in Gilneas. They seem to never stop scurrying around. They made for an interesting hunt... Moreso because I was using a wasp to help bring down the foxes rather than a mastiff.

Image

The gnome that had previously sent me out to collect those seeds was in a panic when I arrived back at the lodge. According to her, a "bobcat epidemic" had struck and the "huge, dangerous" cats had to be controlled. I did as she wished to calm her down. The cats were a nuisance, I'll admit. They leaped out of seemingly nowhere at me. Cats weren't the only thing dropping out of the sky - a huge, white condor swooped down on poor Flicker, clearly intending to make a meal out of her. I manged to shoot it down before she became the bird's afternoon snack. I think I recall the hunters speaking about it back at the lodge. Lord Condor, he was called.

Image

My last task at the lodge was to give one of the hunters a humbling lesson. He, a simple hunter, had the snobbery to rival a high-class Gilnean citizen. I was more than happy to assist the other hunters in getting him to step down. The boy had an ugly scar, one that an elf, Vyrin, told me he received from a big bear he had before tried to hunt down. I was told to bring the bear's head back to the lodge and present it to the boy. Flicker and I found the old bear, Sooty she was called, and brought her head back to the lodge. He wasn't very pleased with us.

Image

Annoying arrogant young hunters is amusing and all, but it was soon my time to go back to Thelsamar... except Flicker had disappeared as I was stocking up on supplies. I left the lodge to find her, trying to spot her glow. If only it had been night! It would have been much easier to see the glow she gives off them. I searched for around an hour, fearing that another buzzard had got to her. I was starting to lose hope when I heard an odd sound. A fox's call, I realized. Curious as to what would make a normally quiet fox so loud, I ventured toward the sound.
There, much to my relief was Flicker. She was buzzing angrily, caught in an alcove in the side of a hill. A fox was jumping about, yapping excitedly at her and preventing her escape. But what an odd fox! Nothing like the foxes I had hunted earlier today. Instead of red fur, this one had a greyish-blue pelt and bright blue eyes. I pulled some boar meat out of my pack and tossed it to the side, aiming to distract the fox. It took the bait, bouncing over the meat and tearing into it. Flicker zipped out of her trap and hovered by my side, buzzing and clicking furiously at the it. It finished the morsel off and sat down, panting. I swear the little devil was grinning at us.
I got up to leave, only to have Flicker start buzzing loudly. I looked behind to see the fox trailing us, sniffing the air. I offered it another piece of meat, much to my wasp's displeasure. The fox bounded up to me and seized the meat in its jaws, tugging it out of my grip and gnawing contentedly on it. Our little trio made it to Thelsamar, Flicker hovering high above us, humming in annoyance. Cricket, as I decided to call the bouncy little creature, trailed along, occasionally daring to rush forward and tug on my pack for more food.

Image

Tomorrow I head to the Wetlands with Cricket. Ross will be staying here, as I don't want his injuries to worsen. Flicker appears to be staying too, seeing how put off she is with me for bringing her furry blue nemesis home. Hopefully the fox won't be giving me too much trouble tomorrow. He seems like an excitable and loud sort.

It's going to be fun with Cricket. I decided to base his personality off of our Australian Shepherd. In other words: loud, bouncy, silly, and has the energy to rival a five year old that's high on sugar at a birthday party. Poor Mordy is going to have his hands full.

You notice that this section of the journal has had pages torn out, small teeth marks punctured into the shreds of paper left.

Dear Journal,

Cricket and I began our trek to the Wetlands this afternoon. The fox seemed excited by the change of scenery and often ran ahead, stopping to look back at me impatiently until I caught up. The little blue demon realized that snatching this book out of my pack and running away with it got me to pick up my pace. A few arrows have been drawn pointing to a gnawed corner of the page as if to prove the author's point.
We came across two dwarves: Rharen and Grugelm. They instructed me to go rid the area of some Dragonmaw orcs and then, of all things, fetch their keg. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised - I'm beginning to realize just how devoted the dwarves are to their drink. The Dragonmaw were easy kills, and they provided Cricket with a much needed way to spend his energy.

Image

We found the ale, as well. It appeared as though the orcs may have had a mug or two, judging by the fellow who was dancing his heart out next to the keg.

Image

The two mountaineers directed me to Slapchisel's Survey, a small camp under the order of a rather boisterous dwarf who went by the name of Forba. In between the jabs to her less than battle experienced crew, she asked that I help control the water elemental population. We also gathered some soil and thresher meat for the dwarfs' research and food. Respectively, that is.

Image

The camp also needed some remedies for those who had drank a bit too much the previous night. In other words, a good majority of the camp. Fenberries were required and shouldn't have taken me as long as it had to pick them. Cricket, apparently, was a bit hungry and stuffed his face in every berry bush we came across. I was lucky to find even a few left.

Image

When the berries were turned in, a dwarf called me over and asked that I find his, er, "Dumpy Level". It had been swallowed up by one of the nearby oozes and he asked that I find it. I lost count of how many of those Light-forsaken oozes I squashed before I finally found the damned thing. Cricket seemed to find the large puddles of goo they left behind irresistible... and promptly began to roll in them. It took me nearly an hour of constant scrubbing in the lake to get the blasted fox clean again.

Image

The dwarf was mighty pleased that I had found his "Dumpy Level". As thanks, he asked me to go to the bottom of the nearby cave to check in on his seismograph. That was all fine and dandy, save for the giant elemental that attacked us once we were finished getting the information from the machine.

Image

I was asked to collect Incendicite Ore from the cave as well. Apparently, the stuff is highly explosive. It made me rather nervous when Cricket insisted to climb up on top of the deposits and sit there like a small, furry blue king while I chipped carefully away for the ore.

Image

There were spiders absolutely everywhere. Cricket and I shot several down, but the fox couldn't seem to leave the things alone. They kept twitching after being killed and it drove him into an absolute frenzy, jumping and yapping and most likely wondering why this thing full of arrows and bites was still moving.

Image

We were finally done with the camp and Forba lent me her ram for a ride to Menethil. Light, the beast was fast!

Menethil was in shambles from the cataclysm. What I found amazing, though, was that the citizens continued to go about their lives despite living in a town that was half submerged. I have a great amount of respect for these people here. Reminds me of my people.
Cricket simply entertained himself by playing on boats.

Image

Their keep had been taken over by Dark Irons amidst all of the confusion with the flood. The captain there requested that I go inside and kill the Dark Iron leader, Horghast Flarecrazed. I killed Horghast for the captain, who was unable to do so himself thanks to an ugly wound he had acquired.

Image

While in town, a dwarf woman approached and asked that I help take care of the sharks in the nearby harbor. She feared for her son's safety, and I figured that was well enough of a reason to go face the toothy beasts. Fel, those sharks were massive! I don't blame her for worrying!

Image

I was also to take care of the murlocs in the area. Cricket and I made short work of their leader.

Image

A statuette of Terenas Menethil was stolen by the fish-men a while ago. I was ordered to search for it while killing murlocs. It took several barrels containing potions and cheese before I found it. It probably would have gone faster if Cricket had helped me with his nose, but he was far too concerned with playing with baby murlocs to give me a hand.

Image

Before I left for murloc duty, an odd man called me over. Fitzsimmons, he was called. He told me about the boat he used to serve on and how it was sunk, him being the sole survivor. His fellow crewmates were doomed to walk the earth as the undead. The man made my fur stand on end, but I went as he asked and found the ghostly first mate on the banks, staring at the shipwreck. The specter spoke to me, asking that I help put his allies to rest and find the object that had caused them to be this way. I did as such, slaying the ghosts of the sailors and acquiring the key from the captain.

Image

The captain placed a peculiar curse on Cricket, changing his shape to that of a ghost. As unnerving as it was, Cricket didn't seem to mind it. I can only imagine the expressions I would see on people had I walked past them, panting and yapping undead in tow.

Image

Inside of the sunken chest was an orb of sorts. It pulsed with an eerie light, and I was eager to bring it back to the town and be rid of it. I was in for a shock when I brought it to the town's priest. He told me that the orb, the Eye of Paleth, had been cleansed long ago. Fitzsimmons had died a year ago, done in by his drinking. The dwarf quietly took the object I held and told me to forget this ever happened. I walked outside, and Fitzsimmons was no longer in the place he had been sitting mere hours ago.

Image

I needed to get these events off of my mind. I left for the Swiftgear Station. It was enough to keep my thoughts off of the strange events. A gnome at the station lamented to me about his loneliness. He apparently thought it was a grand idea to take some eggs from the nearby raptors in order to have a pet. After seeing the size of the raptors guarding the nests, I'm not sure how long the gnome will be going without having to worry about becoming his pet's next snack.

Image

As Cricket and I found the last of the eggs, we began to head back. The fox's ears pricked up, staring off at the swamp. I followed his gaze, trying to figure out what he was hearing. Soon enough, I heard it, too - a long, keening cry. I followed the sound to a raptor. She was resting on a bank, a large wound torn in her side. Upon seeing me she leaped up and charged, hissing. She didn't make it very far before stumbling to the ground, her injury getting the best of her. She settled for staring up at me, her nostrils flaring in panic.
I sit beside her now. Upon inspection, it appears as though she took a bite from a crocolisk, and is in no shape to defend herself. I think she is confused - she can smell the scent of raptor from the eggs in my pack, but I certainly don't look like her kind. Her confusion and wound have left her compliant as I bandage her up. Hopefully she will stay that way until she has healed. In the meantime, I shall make camp out here. Perhaps the raptor will make a good ally, provided she stays. Kijara, as I've begun to call her, seems like she has a strong will to survive, so I have hope that she will pull through.

I really love Cricket and how he clashes with Mordakai. I'll admit, my first thought was, "Why are you changing pets? The zone isn't over! D:" I then remember only I do it that way. Heh. XD

Cricket had me snickering throughout the story too. So fun, so cute.
I look forward to seeing how Mordekai and Kijara get on :)
