Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?

I'm hoping this paves the way for my such challenge tames.
I may not like all the pets being added (Not fond of the owl and 5 spiders feels eh), however, thank you Blizzard and Noah SO MUCH for even doing this for hunters when you didn't have to.

I'd been kind of unhappy reading over some of the class changes for 4.2 and seeing this totally piqued my interest. No other class gets the attention we do; we are truly spoiled. Thanks for all the love!

I look forward to the implementations of the other Skoll skins (and the subsequent complaining they'll bring about).

Took me a shaman and a paladin to get the Beast, and a couple times of me being an idiot.

And making sure you were in the corner just right otherwise...Beastie gave you flying lessons. Terrorpene is still considered easy. Why? Just load up on the fire resist armor and Hysteria. Done. The Beast was not like that at all. You couldn't just switch armors and solo tame it(unless you got REALLY lucky). You had to do it with someone else, preferably a shaman and/or priest/pally.

I don't like all the new skins either but I like a few and I'm happy for people like Iku who loooove spiders. I personally wish it was more than just spiders but no big deal. Not gonna go throw a fit over it. I got two cats and an owl I've wanted. I'm happy. ^^

I cant wait for the other Skoll Skins to come about.

Um there is still one thing that should be noted :

This is still the PTR, the common spider skins (yellow and red) might be changed for the something ''unique'' several hunters here seem to want... Only a random tought nothing sure.

Still, hoping someone at blizz realizes that 5 spiders might be a bit too much...

And Im happy with the 3 spirit beast and Deth'tilac, so I don't have no right to complain at all.

And Terrorpene is easy with paly bubble.

The spirit beasts all look very good, I agree. The spiders are somewhat disappointing - there had to be more ideas for Blizzard to choose from, and while I am definitely pleased that they chose to focus on the taming challenge aspect (some of these sound pretty awesome to do, and I'm hoping that the mobs aren't *too* rare to make up for the fact that a tame won't be guaranteed if any of them can die like the Red spider can), it's unfortunate that there's next to no variety there.

As far as BM goes, it's just not close to MM. Any fight where the boss moves or goes into an air phase (Atramedes), BM doesn't just lose dps from pet time-on-target, they also lose their main damaging shot. The other two specs can Explosive or Aimed just fine. Couple that with BM's mastery being rather weak but also not gaining much from haste, and you have a spec that performs significantly worse. This is not to say that BM can't do decent dps, but Marks does some absurd damage and is nearly as easy to play. To say that BM sims out 400 dps higher than MM is completely false and there is a huge amount of data substantiating that between EJ and World of Logs.

but yes, anything is easy with epic gear and people helping you. try being lower than 85 and solo taming in ICC gear with no fire resist! there's a "taming challenge" for you! XD

It's not false. I think AdamSavage had a link to it. MM is not an easy spec to play and they take a long time to even get their rotation in full swing. BM is blam right there in the face immediately.

As for atramedes, I was still on top charts with 20k dps on him despite it all. So no, BM does just fine. He's only in the air for a few seconds.

Also while haste isnt a huge thing for BM, I love my crit numbers. That makes up a lot for the haste issue. I have enough haste where my shot is only 1.2 seconds....and enough crit where I've done 50k crits.

I'll have to ask AdamSavage where he found the dps thing. I don't remember offhand what the site was.

MM is an easy spec to play, and even when you do it wrong the spec is so blatantly overpowered that your dps is more than fine anyway. BM being "blam in the face" doesn't make a difference (especially when MM has Careful Aim, and is thus much more in the face; starting your fight off with Rapid Fire into two near-guaranteed crit Aimed Shots will do that).

Atramedes is in the air for at least 30 seconds at a clip. It's not "a few seconds."

Your crit rating has nothing to do with how hard your crits hit.

MM getting nerfed is a good thing, since it's too good right now. WoL substantiates this. Go look at all the top parses there for MM and BM, see the difference. As an example, the best 25H Atramedes MM parse is 32,565 DPS; for BM it's 28,849. That's a LARGE difference. And these are the best players in the world, in the best gear there is - the difference is more glaring at more average gear levels.

I'll leave you with the 6k DPS difference between the two specs on http://stateofdps.com/ - if that doesn't prove it to you, you're intentionally ignoring the facts.

back on track (>___>) i wish that this wasn't the case, because i have rather a lot of BM pets in my stable that i love dearly. i would not have any second thoughts about adding these new ones in if i didn't feel like it was more wasted stable space on a spec i never get to play. (not that i have any extra stable space anyway lol)

so all i was saying is that, for people who do not feel it is in their best interests to go BM, there is really only five colors of the same rare this patch. i agree with the people who said that they shouldn't have made a huge deal out of it and just slipped them in there quietly.

All three specs have their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you're seriously progression oriented, playing what you enjoy will always give you better results.

Personally I find BM very difficult to manage which is why I avoid it, though I've seen some very impressive numbers from other similarly geared hunters.

The main problem is Blizzard went around using words like "NEW" and "RARE" which got alot of people hyped up and speculating on all the new sutff we been daydreaming for. In the end it was dissapointment, better to be left unsaid and not mentioned, let us find out on our own.

Secondly, its not much when your asking for pets to look at cool as some of the beasts walking around that are untameable. Plenty of classes got shiny new abilities this expansion, we got squat. I said this before in another thread, sure the design team isn't obligated to cater to hunters, but we pay $15 a month like any other player, and our class is poorly lacking right now, recieves no blue attention or design tweaks. So if your not gonna give anything to the class, then atleast take the time to give the premier pet class new pet skins/species that are viable. Take a backseat ride with the game on cruise control is what lost WoW 500k subs here lately. My point is, out of the new pet species added in cataclysm, look at how many are viable for high end pvp, or raiding? None there just questing/stable companions, and maybe 5m if your group won't kick you. Before anyone mentions monkey, we all know that was a broken unintended mechanic.

All 5 species are nothing but questing/leveling pets like many other of our pet species. So if your gonna add new pets and use words like new and rare, atleast have the courtesty to take the time to make something new and worth being rare. They don't work for free, they make very good salaries/hourly wages (perhaps) off our money for a game we enjoy. Atleast show your doing effort with a poorly neglected class like ours.

I was gonna reply to you Oltanya, but Jessibelle hit the nail on the head. And yeah, I'm still top DPS on Atramedes (unless a certain mage from my guild is on XD) at 20-22k DPS. Still lower than my normal avg dps, but certainly not bad.

And I have to disagree with the "MM is absurdly better". I don't go with sims too much, there's a big difference between what you see in a Sim and what actually happens in the real game. And that IS a fact.

I have yet to ever see any MM be 6k + dps over any spec in any raid/heroic I've ever ran on all my characters. So that cannot even be a normal average that site is showing.

I was so excited when I saw that Blizzard was finally catering to the hunter need for challenging pets. Finally, a taming challenge beyond camping a spot for a week waiting for a spawn!

Then I started exploring the forums here and realized the pets are three BM-only pets (including two recolors of an already existing spirit beast) and FIVE stone-fire spiders. Words can't express how disappointed I was.

I was just wondering if anyone else was disappointed as well, or if maybe I was just expecting too much?

Don't go getting your hopes up for hydras now, if they weren't in these notes, or on PTR yet, its unlikely they will be added. As for blizzard thinking of us, all they did was stir up a hornets nest by giving us 2 versions of a pet we already have, and a 6 year old model with the alpha turned up and new madexx in terms of 5 spiders. Only its not camping a single mob hoping for a different color. You go around and use words like "new" and "Rare" to in turn give that, what do you expect?

I'll be impressed when we get abilities like spirit totem link, rallying cry, smoke bomb, ring of frost, hand of guldan in terms of on par. Not even gonna bother going through it all. Until then I'm gonna run around in camo and pop out at lowbies, since thats all its good for. I'll bring my blue gondria too when I get it.


I know Noah is working hard and it isn't his fault. I'm not gonna slam him, the new models are great additions of course, but tell your parrots to not squawk new and rare at us only to dissapoint

Those WoL parses I mentioned where MM crushes BM? Those are facts, too.

Just because you personally manage 20k DPS as BM and no one in your guild comes close doesn't mean much. In fact, I almost guarantee that another player (or even yourself!) could take your character geared as it currently is, respec it MM, and do 24k without much trouble.

You can continue to give me all the anecdotal evidence about how you yourself do well as BM as you want. I'm giving you actual parses that say, sure, BM does decent damage, but it's not on the same level as MM.

And I'm glad they added more spirit beasts. To be fair, Spirit Beasts are still the least represented family in the game. Technically there's only 6 spirit beasts in game? That's the lowest of any family if I'm recalling the families correctly (and I could be wrong... XD)
