Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
Ban'thalos is NOT an Olm re-skin, take another look at the screenshot comparing the two. It's a different, albeit subtly so, model.
Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
I feel a bit torn by all this really. Yes, it's great Hunters are getting so much love, and we are absolutely spoiled in the pet department nowadays in comparison to earlier times in WoW, but I can't help feeling just a bit disappointed with these new rares. I was excited when I first heard about it, thinking of 8 unique creatures available to tame. But really, there are only 3. I get that the two spirit beast cats are skins that were unused and so are desirable. I love the cats, so will probably attempt to get the 2 new ones on my alt hunters. The owl is also a cool addition. And one spider would have been good. But why 5? Why 2 samey cats for that matter? It's great that unused, and much wanted, skins are being implemented, but maybe it would have been better to use one of the spirit cats and one spider in this 'challenge' thing, and have other beasts included in it instead of very similar ones? Yes, people want to collect the unused skins, but they could surely be added as time goes on to keep people happy.
I guess the idea is that the difficult tames are the point of it all, rather than having the beasts in your stable thereafter. I really can't imagine anyone having the space now for 5 spiders that are identical except for a colour variation. Still, it does seem churlish to complain, because the fact we're being given these challenges at all is good. That's the trouble with being spoiled: we just want more.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
I'm disappointed for 3 reasons, I wanted Zombie Bear!!! And because 5 of the 8 new rares are the spider wearing a different color, and lastly where is our burning skeleton doggie?!!!
I tamed Arcturis the other day on my Worgen Hunter finally and I love him!!! I so want a new bear model and I was really hoping for Zombie Bear!!!
I will attempt to tame all 8 new rares, to say I did it, but I will only need 1 of the new cats and 1 of the fire spiders and thus I won't be clearing 8 stable slots!!! In the end Vulcanus (Terrorpene) will remain my favorite pet!!!

But they're still recolors of what we already have.Acherontia wrote:They're not recolors--please remember before you say you're disappointed, and before you call these recolors:
We already had these skins in the database, unavailable for taming. Someone at Blizz is both making these skins finally available to tame AS WELL AS trying out a new sort of taming. These beasts are specifically for hunters, and are an actual challenge!!
I'm not disappointed, I'm impressed and pleased

I'm very disappointed with these pets. I mean, great, we get two more cats, five spiders, and an owl. Woo.
I wanted to see a purple devilsaur, perhaps a ghostly worg like the new horde mount coming soon, or even a hydra or two. >_>
Meh, I'll keep on using my current pets. GL to the rest of you trying to tame.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
But they're not what we already have. I really don't see what the problem with the cat-beasts and spiders is, when all but two are unique rares. Are we going to complain next that Deathmaw is a reskin, or Shadowclaw, or Duskstalker, or King Krush? We've become all too entitled in expecting each new rare to have a new model crafted just for us...and we got that, too! I don't know about others, but I saw the early images of Ban'thalos' model--it was definitely a work in progress, and now he's a shiny new model just for hunters.

I have a very strong feeling that this sort of thing will be a reoccurring sort of deal. You may very well get your zombie bear, you just have to be patient. :)Caanin wrote:I'm disappointed for 3 reasons, I wanted Zombie Bear!!! As for the burning skeleton dog, they are very clearly undead/elemental, and the ones running around on the PTR are classed as such - even then, we were never promised anything. The models were dug up and people went "want!" and, well, that was about it. Noah does tons for us already, I think we can be thankful for what we have - you're welcome to all of the disappointment you'd like to have, but please don't act like he broke a promise made to the community.

Again, we do have several pets that look far more undead/elemental than living, breathing forest critter. Blighthounds, The Lone Hunter, the skeletal bird, etc.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
I think the big thing is the way Blizzard promoted them. Using catchphrases like "new and unique". Now, to the average player, this is true.
The thing is, to Petopia, a different color of an existing model, whether it's a new color or has been in the database since vanilla's beta, is not unique. Thanks to Wain, we have seen pretty much every skin of the current models, whether that particular skin is in game or not. So to us, "new and unique" means an entirely original model, never before seen. (Even the "zombie bear" is a different skin of Arcturis - not "new and unique" by the common standards of the community.) Hopes were high. And many people's hopes were unfulfilled.
As for me, my disappointment is the lack of variety. I just wish there were more families represented.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
While that is a valid argument the fact of the matter is that the skeletal hounds I'm looking at right now are Elementals. I'm not saying that won't change or that they won't make the skins tameable at a later date, but the ones we've seen have not been beasts regardless. I could argue that a very sickly-looking bird with bones and bandages or a ghost wolf is a bit of a step away from a vaguely canine skeleton on fire, but really that's not the topic here. I'd like them to be tameable, for what it's worth.Gelannerai wrote:Nubhorns wrote:Caanin wrote:As for the burning skeleton dog, they are very clearly undead/elemental, and the ones running around on the PTR are classed as such - even then, we were never promised anything. I was more bothered by the 'where is my x!?' tone than the mobs they wanted to tame. ;P

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
I've said this before and I'll say it again, no where in that blue post tidbit about them adding new taming challenges did it say "unique pets." In fact, it said "unique taming challenge." That IN NO WAY implies brand new totally unique pets that the art team would need to spend man hours on.ummeiko wrote:I think the big thing is the way Blizzard promoted them. Do any of you people who are complaining realize what it takes to implement brand new models every single time? It's a lot more work than most of the whiners are willing to give them credit for, especially when there's a portion of the community who will think Blizzard's stupid for getting their art team to cater specifically to hunters instead of making sure that the new raid and quest hubs look awesome.
Any implication of totally brand new models that people feel they deserve to get comes from your own reading interpretation and IS NOT what Blizzard said at all.
Quite frankly, I'm incredibly disappointed in this attitude that rises up of how "lazy and incompetent" people seem to think Blizzard is about their hunter pets. I feel we don't really deserve any new pets when people act like they know what it takes to implement this kind of stuff into the game just for us hunters. No other class gets treated like we do and we take it for granted. The entitle-ist attitude makes me sick to my stomach.
If you don't like all the pets being used this go around, that's fine; I don't like all of them either. But as I've said before, there's a major difference between voicing a dislike opinion and voicing dislike in a negative way that makes you sound like you deserve new models thrown at your feet just for existing as a hunter. Chances are this is an experimental run to see how these sorts of challenge tames go over, but with the amount of bitching, part of me kind of hopes Blizzard scraps the idea.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
I don't think "spoiled" is quite the right term here. We all bought the game, and all of it's expansions, and we pay $14.99 every month to play it. (In my case, for both my husband and myself) We're customers. The obligation is on Blizzard to keep us happy. We are under no obligation to *be* happy, regardless of what we're given for our money.
That being said, yes; these new pets are better than no new pets; but that's all that they're better than.

You're under no obligation to be happy, but it's common sense not to be overly entitled, which fits how many are acting right now.

Re: Anyone else disappointed by the new 4.2 rares?
One of my main issues is that people keep calling others greedy, snobby, ungrateful and all kinds other things because some of us do not like the new pets. Granted some people are, but to go out and say "we don't deserve anything anymore" and "I hope blizz scraps this idea" is really unfair.
I think the pets suck. I'll tame the spirit beasts because I have a competition with a friend of mine over who can get them first and I like the challenge of it but that's it. Two of my best friends in the world do graphic work so I know the people at Blizzard do work hard in what they do, but it does not mean I have to like everything or be grateful for everything they throw our way.
The whole point of this thread was for people who were disappointed in the new rares to vent and complain a bit and we can't even get that. People just want to rush to the defense of Blizz and no one seems to have the right to complain or express disappointment. Why can't we be disappointed? Why can't we think these palette swaps of existing models should have been something else? From what I've seen the biggest problem people have is that they think there should have been a greater variety of pet families used in this experiment.
