I first tamed TP on my dwarf Bofors at 81, about two weeks after cata was released. Before going after him, I loaded up on cheap green fire resist gear at the AH (which made me take a drop in HP since it was mostly all WotLK / BC stuff - only 30k), and I also picked up a "disposable core hound", speed potion and a couple other odds & ends. After a few days of logging in, checking, and logging off, he popped.

Thanks to all the preps (but primarily I think to the FR - see below), I was able to tame him on the first try, and only lost 15-20k or so HP doing it. 8-)

A few days ago I ran into him on my BE Khitsune while en route to another archeology dig. No FR this time, but she was lvl 84, and even though her gear was crap (a few ilvl 272s, the rest were 251s - since wotlk I haven't done much with her outside of archaeology), she still had 57k hp, so I figured "why not".

Well this time around things didn't go so smoothly... after dying a half dozen times at @ 80-90% completion, a light flickered on somewhere and I remembered that Khitsune had Lifebloom... this time, once again I died BUT at the same instant TP also disappeared, and I had myself a new turtle in the stable! :D

Here is the macro I used, for any hunters with herbalism:

After seeing a orc hunter just kill it out of pure spite(he ha done already) I tried camping it a few hours( freshly dinged 85 at the time) but alas, no luck.
I log out near his spawn spot, seeing as I cba to port back to Stormwind. Log in the next day to find myself face to face with him. Kinda lucked out I guess :p

Hello everyone!

For me Terrorpene was quite a nervous tame. It's been quite a while since cataclysm release, so it's not camped as much as it used to, or was I just lucky. I leveled my hunter in Hyjal and once I've hit level 81 I was checking the lava pools every now and again. I've logged off for a while, logged in sometime later, leveled to 82 and just as I was about to do some of the final quests, I ran into the lava pools and what do you know, he's here!

Now.. I'm new to the hunter class, wanted a fresh start on a new realm to play something new once in a while. I really got into the class and I fell in love with taming rare pets. The joy and excitement of seeing that NPC scan going off is just indescribable.

So anyway.. back to the story. I didn't read any comments AT ALL in wowhead or here in petopia about taming that handsome turtle. All i knew is that I wanted a hunter class and this pet ever since I've seen Nemesis in Hyjal and other hunters with it in major cities.

So without ANY preparations at all, reading about tactics I thought I'd just freeze the turtle with my trap and tame it, I mean how hard can it be, right?

So i launch my freezing trap, hit the tame button (all done very nervously, as I always panic when I see a rare spawn like this) and I'm dead.. Thought maybe he resisted the trap, so I run back, all the time very anxious someone would either tame it or kill it. I launch another freezing trap, try to tame and of course I die again.

At this point I'm already loosing my mind. Such a chance to get this amazing pet and I die before my tame even gets to half.

I run wowhead to read some comments, but I was so anxious and nervous I couldn't read a bit. Thought I'd see some quick youtube movie. Launch youtube, find some terropene taming vid just to see it's 5 minutes and the guy is just blubbering about the pet in it, not much about the taming process at all. I'm getting mad at the guy who made that video. I mean I'm here in Hyjal, want to tame the pet and he's talking about "how awesome he is" in a video called "how to tame terropene". I'm starting to swear and nervously stretch my hands waiting until he says something useful. Well he didn't.

I tried to calm myself down, went to wowhead again and looked for some short green comments. I've found one saying about getting a prismatic elixir, a temporary corehound that can be found in Hyjal and some haste pots.

Since time was of the essence I thought I'd just tame the corehound and try quickly with just ancient hysteria. So fly to a place where I thought corehounds were but I couldn't find any. I go back to wowhead to check where they are exactly, going mad and insane by the minute. I checked on map, tabbed back to the game and flew there. And what? The place is green and no corehounds! I was already so advanced in Hyjal questline that the zone was phased out and corehounds disappeared. I flew around for a few more seconds and nothing.

"I'm doomed" I thought. I was very mad at myself for not reading any tactics beforehand. What left? I hearthed to check the AH just to see my hearthstone was still set to Dalaran. I check the AH for prismatic elixir, nothing. I buy some level 80 haste pots, reminded myself I'm a herbalist and also have lifeblood and I fly back to Hyjal. I check around for Terropene and I can't find him, I'm bloody furious at that moment. I flew around for a few more seconds and He just went down to the other side of the lava. Phew!

So wiser after reading wowhead comments, armed with haste pots I pop deterrence, lifeblood, haste pot and hit tame button. What do you think happend? He went out of range -_-'. I WAS RAGING.

I fly to another mini-island to get into range and try without deterrence. I fail. I die. I run back, super nervously waiting for my deterrence cooldown, stretching my hands 'till they hurt. Go to the kitchen, walk around for 1 minute, because I can't even look at the screen anymore. I come back, 1 minute left on deterrence. I wait.. and finally! Cooldown is over. I pop all coldowns, haste pot try to tame it and I die again.

I gave up. I didn't know what else to do. Thought I tried everything and was explaining to myself I'd try again at 85 and it's not my fault I can't tame him at this level and that there were no prismatic elixirs in the auction house.

Then I had a very late thought of actually asking someone for help!

The hunter, like mentioned before, was still quite a fresh character on that realm and I was in a guild where I didn't know folks much. I scroll through the names and see a mage I've talked with a few times before. I didn't even think of getting a healer. I asked if she's got a minute and no reply. I wait another minute and she finally replies asking what do I need. So I tell her I need her badly here in Hyjal to help me tame a rare pet. She said ok, I replied "Just please, be quick, I'm worried someone will tame it before me". Which she replied with "You can summon me" - a guild perk I totally forget about.

So she's here, I'm telling her come here quickly as i fly from one mini island to another to be in range of the turtle. She's saying something about not seeing me as I was flying from one place to another, but she finally followed me. I explained her to pop time warp and interrupt the turtle when he's casting his spell with counterspell.

After nervously saying that to her for like 3 times she finally pops TW and I start to tame. She forgot to hit counterspell, as well as getting aggro which turned off my taming, and we both die. She said she's sorry, she wasn't sure what she was doing. Obviously I wasn't bad at her, but still a bit angry with myself. Said it's ok and "lets try again".

So we wait for TW cooldown (not the debuff, as it falls off with death, but the actual 5 minute cooldown spell). Ok.. we're ready. I fly again from island to island, find a good spot, she pops time warp, I do an arcane shot to get a bit of aggro, pop cooldowns, deterrence, haste pot and tame it. She counterspells and just as I was around 20% hp left Terropene was mine. MY GOD. I couldn't believe I actually got it. It was around 12am and I was so happy noone else came in that time and killed/tamed it.

Was of the greatest moments in wow for me, so relieved and happy we pulled this of. It was the longest and most frustrating taming I ever did :D But I got it at level 82 and in the end I was proud :)

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed my story! :-D ^____________^

Grats on your tame.

I know it is so frustrating, but I myself love those hard tames. The excitement and frenzy of trying to figure out what to do to get that tame.

Yours was a great struggle, and you got him in the end. How exciting is that.
