Hunter Etiquette

Unread post by pengupuff »

I am SO sick of hunters running around with the pets they like when I'm trying to camp! There are so many rude people who play this game, and I just know they're all plotting against me! But there is some good news, I have come up with a plan to stop any future instances of other hunters setting off my NPC scan (gasp!), and unless you're an impolite, selfish jerk, you'll follow these simple guidelines for correct hunter etiquette. ;)

First of all: Only one hunter per zone can have an active pet. Isn't it annoying when you're flying over an area and you see a beast marked as "InuyashaLuver" on your minimap, and for a split second you're filled with hope as you wonder if you've just discovered a new rare?! But after you land it's just so crushing to realize it was only a hunter pet. By only allowing one hunter per zone to keep an active pet out, all other hunters will have a heads up and know exactly what to expect. The system would work like this; every time a hunter enters a zone they'll have to announce their arrival in general chat, and then announce the name of the active pet they'll be using. You are not allowed to switch active pets after you've already chosen one. Turns with pets will last in 20 minute intervals, and the next turn will be given to the hunter who has been in the zone the longest.

Secondly: Even if it IS your turn in a zone to use an active pet, you may NOT use a rare pet that spawns in that zone, EVER EVER EVER. This may set off campers' NPC scans, and when they find out it was your pet and not the mob they were looking for, they may sporadically slip into a dark depression, start listening to Hawthorne Heights, and maybe even start wearing black nail polish so everyone knows how conflicted their lonely hearts are. Or they could just shake it off and get on with their lives, but what are the odds of that?

Third of all: You may NOT name your pets "silly" names. I'm in the process of organizing a "Naming Counsel" on every server comprised of 12 trusted individuals (one of each race, to be fair, and 6 of each gender), and every hunter must go through us before naming their pets, to ensure that your choice of names is acceptable. Gone are the days when we are exposed to ridiculous sights like cats named "Dog" or wolves named "buttmunch!"

In closing, I hope my fellow hunters will join me in this noble cause as we strive to eradicate impolite behavior on the internet. These rules really are tremendously simple to follow and shouldn't inconvenience anyone, so I imagine we'll be seeing a nicer, more content hunter community in no time!

Tyger, Pengu was obviously joking. Even the wording of the post points to that.

While I'm not dragging my newbies around their home zone for another week or so, I got a good giggle out of this.

With the tone and winky face that I picked from Pengu's post, I was thinking it was more of a joke / slant on people who make absurd requests and demands like this than an actual idea she was putting into action. ;)

Edit: beat to the punch!

Double Edit: Striked Tygers quote, I can take it off if you'd wish though, Tyger.

Triple Edit: All done Tyger, no harm no foul. :D

Yeah, I am, too. ;u;
I think that's probably why Pengu made this thread. It's kind of like "A Modest Proposal". You point out exactly how ridiculous people are being by being sarcastic. It makes people stop and think about how they're acting.

If you wouldn't mind, it would be appreciated. I fail and didn't realize it was a joke.

Thanks Gim. :)

The problem is what's known as "Poe's Law", which in its generalized form says that there's no statement so ridiculous that it has to be sarcasm — someone out there really would say it in earnest.

Thus, humor detection is dependent on cynicism :)

Meh. I guess it's too much to hope for some common decency amongst fellow hunters.

Sorry if I sound bitter, but I've just been dealing way too many false scans over the past several days. Some have been intentional griefing, some from hunters innocently using their new pets.

I just wish, at least for the next few weeks, that folks would take things like this into consideration. It's not like we're asking that you *never* use your pretty new pets. Just don't pull them out in the *two* zones where people are waiting their turn to tame one.

If someone doesn't use NPCscan, they probably don't realize it's a problem.

I'd guess that the majority of the hunters who are serious enough to have already tamed one of the new rares does use it (or SilverDragon).

I'm not going to belabor the point, but it is very frustrating, and I encourage hunters to consider the people still camping for their pets.

I tamed Deth, Kirix, and Annthriss without use of NPC scan, and have spotted Solix and Skitter without it aswell. I honestly do not use it often, if ever >_>

But to each their own, and all that jazz. :ugeek:

That was a great read Ijomi. XD And really, it's probably something all of us hunters should read and ask ourselves. Certainly had me take a step back and evaluate myself for a moment. :)
