Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
Here's a cute shot of her and I when I was trying to lvl mining and went in that cave by Durotar. The mobs there give you a buff, or debuff, I dont remember, but it turns you into a big purple demon. Also, look how small she was at the time. She was my baby bear!

I love going back to Winterspring to take screenshots. She just looks so good in her winter wonderland.

Her idle animations are this growl while swinging her head from side to side every minute or so.

When swimming she does a doggie paddle and glides easily through the water.

My little polar bear!

A bear's combat animations are really cool. She does a swipe, bite, stomp, lunge, and when she swipes she leaves red streaks through the air. Being a tenacity pet with a damage reduction cool down she is one of the best pet tanks in the game. A turtle could probably give her a run for her money but she is damn good! I hardly ever have to mend pet even with multiple mobs on her. And she is great at holding aggro.

Pretty girl!

I absolutely adore White Lady and highly recommend bears. They're just so endearing and kick ass at the same time. Thanks for checking out our story. Now go tame a bear

I think I love you.Sesamee wrote:I'm curious as to why people sign up for the "random" pet challenge then add a bunch of restrictions or complain about the pet they were rolled. I can see if you're not BM and request no exotics or you want to exclude pets you've already done but other than that just go with it people. This is supposed to be about trying different, unexpected pets not about only taming the ones you like. If you end up hating a pet you're rolled well that's part of the experience so write it up in your review about how much you didn't click with that particular pet. Idk, it just seems kind of contrary to the whole point of this challenge.

No really, I've tried bringing this up in the past and honestly, no one ever actually complies so I just do the extra work and go along with it. Honestly, it's not as much fun hand-picking out people's pets as it is seeing what the system rolls for them.
The whole point of this being a "challenge" is to get people to try out pets they maybe never would have considered, and if you get rolled a pet you have, you tell us why you love that pet so much.
If people actually went back through and looked at a lot of the reports, they would see that I, personally, have done about 3 or 4 blue sporebat reports (on different hunters), a report on nearly every tallstrider skin. I know there's a few repeats and definitely pets I really didn't end up liking, but it was a part of the system and I went with it. I don't expect everyone to be like me. Hell, I probably hit near 100 reports and finally burned out on them, but I definitely don't understand putting massive limitations on the system.
If you have a set theme/idea of pets in mind for a character, then this challenge may not be what you're looking for and you can easily roll the pets for yourself. Now, I fully understand if you're absolutely terrified of spiders in both real life and in game, and I would never make you tame something that absolutely terrifies and disgusts you. Same with if you've had something like a gorilla a dozen times and just hate them each and every time.
However, all that being said, I'm glad to see that this thread has come alive again and so I've kept any complaints to myself, but it does make me a little sad to see lots of restrictions put on the system to the point where I have to hand pick pets, especially if the report coming back doesn't really tell anything about the pet in question (it's happened a handful of times). I like to think of our reports as a springboard for people looking for a certain pet to sort of get a jump start on what it looks like in game next to particular hunters and how the pet performs, looks, etc.
Note: I would also like to add that I am not going to stop rolls for those people with lots of restrictions; I'll still be giving them even if they make me a little sad. It's also worth mentioning that there are actually guidelines to how this process works given on the front page of the post that I'm not sure if everyone who participates reads.
One of these days I'll get around to going back through this thread and make a new thread that maybe lists just the reports or something and potentially come up with some sort of ranking system of the pet.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
the only restriction to mine is that i'm only taming old world pet, (because i so often see them dead, or left out for hours on end, they need some love,) and so i do get to meet new pets, and i'm constantly release old pets, even those I've clicked with, to try out new ones. if i don't like it, but i like my old one better, i go and get my old one. and plus, people have certin likes and dis likes, even in game, who knows they might have picked up that pet that they said no to on the rolls and didn't like it, so they wouldn't want to get it again. it's mostly a matter of opinion.TygerDarkstorm wrote:I think I love you.Sesamee wrote:I'm curious as to why people sign up for the "random" pet challenge then add a bunch of restrictions or complain about the pet they were rolled. Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
But, like I said, I am not going to stop giving out rolls just because of these reasons. And if you actually read my post I said I understood restrictions of things people just utterly hate (I know I feel that way about gorillas and monkeys). However, people coming here looking for certain themes or even just very specific pets might find themselves better served rolling for themselves. Keep in mind though, I am not going to turn down a request for a roll for any reason; if people want me to give them a roll and they're interested in participating in this thread, then I shall give them a roll and look forward to their report. It might make me a little sad to see all the restrictions, but I won't turn down a person unless they give me good reason to.
Sesamee brought up a really good point about the way this challenge is supposed to work and I gave my thoughts on it after having run it for several months now.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
I sic'd the spider on another shale spider just to see how it would do. It was kinda boring, just some back and forth and lots of screeching. Lots of screeching!

I named it Rocks because, well, that's what it is. I refer to it as it because it doesn't seem "alive" to me. Just a bunch of moving rocks. Rocks is really more yellow than orange and I guess it's kinda cool just not what I would consider a hunter pet.

I brought along creepy crate and "he" had tons of fun with all the critters. I can't get over how cool these little "pets" are and he was more interesting than the shale spider so he gets his own screenshots

Here creepy crate decided Rocks was getting far too much attention and decided to show off some flips:

It's basic combat animation was a lunge back and forth....with more screeching of course:

Being an exotic, it has two basic abilities, Web Wrap which is a ranged stun (the webs are its animation) and Embrace of the Shale spider which is basically Mark of the Wild, an increase to all stats and magic resistance. Web Wrap is a cool animation and I wish the regular spider's webs looked like it:

It swims the same way it fights just in slower motion:

On a brighter note (pardon the pun) it matches my weapon enchant and Headless Horseman's Mount perfectly lol :

Rocks is soo not for me! It just doesnt seem alive. I have no idea who's bright idea at Blizz it was to make shale spiders beasts and allow hunters to tame them. I don't get it! So Rocks can go back to Deepholm and screech it's little heart out. Peace, Rocks!

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
This is why I backed out of the challenge. I'm happy with my currently full stables right now and if I DID do more challenges, they wouldn't be challenge tames, just reviews of pets I've already decided I like enough to keep. My restrictions, when I did have a free stable slot, were just dogs, rhinos, lava/shale spiders, and monkeys. I cannot force myself to even go near those types of pets (except lava spiders, but I have already done reports on all of them and see too many around to want/need to do it again). Perhaps make a rule where people are only allowed ONE type of pet restriction, making it more a challenge. If I drop a current pet, I would have only monkeys as my restriction for what pets I will NOT do if such a rule were in place. Some people just can't stand a certain class of pet. Monkeys/gorillas are mine. And yes, I HAVE tried them. I just hate them with every fiber of my being. The only primate I'd ever contemplate taming is a human.TygerDarkstorm wrote:Starkittens, you're actually one of the people whose pets get hand picked for every roll I do because I can't use the system to randomly roll you a pet. I would say gorillas and monkeys are the single most excluded pet in any of these systems, including from myself.Sarantha wrote:This is why I backed out of the challenge. While not random, I actually thought it was kind of cool when you offered to review the pets in your stables originally and I turned it into a sort of random thing as to which pet got picked by doing a /roll for how many pets you had left. However, I respect your wish not to do that again.

I think I dropped half my lava spiders and spirit beasts. You really don't need ALL the spirit beasts, especially if you dislike them. I KNOW I dropped Ghostcrawler and Arcturis.
