Any news on more stable slots?

Unread post by Araela »

I'm one of those hunters that has all 9 current spirit beasts on two hunters... I'm thinking about getting rid of some to make room for more pets (some old, some new). Has ANYONE heard anything about extended stable slots? I am still really hoping that this ends up happening, but I'm not holding my breath. Just wanted to post here first and ask, in case you had, before I let some of my rares go!

There's been nothing about new stable slots so far. I'm personally leaning towards not getting any more, we have a lot as it is. I know it's not enough for many people, but in the grand scheme of things...I dunno, I feel like after having 3 and then 5 stables to suddenly 25 is just so much I can't see them needing to expand them continuously after that.

The only odd thing is that in beta the first 5 stable slots at a stable master are locked for some reason that is unknown, I'm not sure what that might mean if anything.

I agree on that. I can see why some poeple would want more but I don't think we really need more.

Yeah...I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that because I don't need more slots...I could certainly use them, I'm agonizing over stable slots and finding room for the new MoP pets. But...I also don't want more. I just don't think we need hunter pets turning into the minipets spellbook. Pages and pages of ever growing slots. I'm not trying to push my opinion on everyone, since I know there's probably some people who would love unlimited slots, I just think that it detracts a bit from the hunter feel overall. Having to make hard decisions over our pets is one of the reasons they're so special to us. We're the only class in game that can selectively choose our companions in this manner.

Part of me loves having the 25 slots that we do now, but another part of me almost wishes we only had 10 or 15. I find the real bonding occurs when you're forced to stop and think about which pets are important enough to keep rather than being able to tame everything without a thought or repercussion. I dunno, it'll be different with everyone of course, those are just my thoughts on the matter.

Sometimes I feel like I could use about five more, but then I take a really good look at my stables and realize that five or six of them rarely, if ever, get used anyway. Every time my stable starts to get full (around 24), I go through them and purge what I know I won't use any time soon. I probably have about fifteen pets I'm really bonded to that I won't let go, so the rest are ones that I could stand to let go if I ever needed the room.

Obviously, I know not everyone is like that. I guess I was just saying that sometimes I feel the same way, but then I realize that I really do have enough now with 25. :)

I definitely hear you there, an even number would sit so much better with me too. xD 30 sounds nice, and I wouldn't mind it, but I also dislike the aspect of a growing stable.

I can see both sides, for sure. On one hand, like I mentioned above, I often feel like I could use a few more. But then at the same time, for me personally, I think having too many slots would take away some of the feeling of attachment. If I had a ton of slots, I'd have animals sitting in them collecting dust. In that case, what's the point of having all those slots?

I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to them adding five more, but no more than that. And I'd like to keep it at 30 for a while. Just my opinion! :)

I don't think it would need to grow any more than that. I think 30 would be enough. Any more than that and I think it just gets ridiculous. I'm just OCD and can't stand odd numbers. XD

Again, I'm a bit of an oddity. I like numbers that end in 5. I also like numbers that end in 0, too, I guess. Like, at work, we go into our database (SAP for those of you who might know what it is) every day and the system assigns "change numbers" to us, so that changes we make to data that day can be tied back to an individual and a date. It always irks me if they don't end in 5 or 0. I don't know why!!!

If we do get more slots I don't see it being any more than five. So we may end up with 30 or stay with 25. I'm fine either way. I actually use and feel bonded to all 25 of my pets. Some I even swap in and out regularly with others. I do think the limitation on stable slots is to make each pet more special rather than due to some technical difficulty. Blizz wants us to make choices, IMO, with regards to tames and releases.

One thing that annoys me though is how some people look down on the "pet collectors" or the "pokemon players" and act like they all hardcore and superior because their pets are nothing more than buff bots. I have Heroic Dragon Soul on farm. I'm interested in raiding and doing end game content but I still love my pets and the flavor they bring to the class. Hell, I even have a pet blog, lol. Clearly, I'm preaching to the choir on this forum but it's a pretty rampant attitude on the battle.net forums. It's like, get over yourself already, different people like different aspects of a very big very diverse game. It's nothing to look down on anyone else for.

The amount we have is an embarassment of riches as it is, for me. I remember three stable slots! *shakes cane*

I could fill up an exstra 5 slots in the time it takes me to fly accros a zone. But when i look at the pets i have vs the pets i use half of them never see daylight. I would enjoy more slots but i will also be quite happy with the 25 i have now. Heck i have been stuck at 70 since 09 so i only had 24 slots up untill now anyway xD

Yep, you and me both. And the third slot had to be left empty to tame trash pets so you could teach skills to your other two pets! Ah, those were the good ol' days.

I'm weird in that I like being able to have extra pets with names/appearances, but I don't like that I really only TRULY bond with a handful. I'd rather just have the short list, but don't begrudge those who have/want more. :)

I miss having to tame other pets to learn new pet abilities! To me that kind of special care was what I really loved about being a hunter! it wasnt just about questing or getting gear, it was also about working to develope your character on a more personal level. And it gave reason to try out new pets, you'd have to use the pet over and over until you saw those magic words <your name> has learned the ability <name>! (ie Claw 4). Loved aspects like that about classes, the warlock quests, the pally quests, shamans...it really gave you class its own special feel.

Now with everything being handed to us...things are just so generic...that awsome bonding and real feel of learning what it ment to be a (enter class name here) was one of the best parts of the game for me.

As for more stable slots, I think we have enough as it is. I have a hard enough time rotating my pets because I've formed such a stong bond with certain ones. I have some pets I like because of thier uniqueness, like my oil hawk, ghost wolf with sword or beetle with the black line. I dont use then, but I like having them. Its going to be even harder when choosing pet specs goes live!

I agree on the even slots but i rather have it to 20 then 30.. I have bonded with a lot of the pets i´ve got and i would really hate to go back to 3 or 5.. I think we are blessed and I´m gratefull for the many slots :D

Don't get me wrong- I'm thrilled that we made the jump up to 25. I still remember only having 3 as well! I just wanted to see if anyone had heard anything, since there has been such an uproar about people wanting more on the main forums for months and months on end. I don't like the idea of having a mini-pet style pet section of my spell book either. I have a few spirit beasts that I absolutely love and feel a bond with (Skoll, Magria, Arcturis, Ban'thalos, Loque'nahak). The others I really could do without, with the exception of maybe Karoma. If you couldn't tell by my signature, I LOVE WOLVES. :D It's kind of cool to be able to say, "I have all the spirit beasts!" but at the same time I rarely use some of them. GC and Gondria rarely see the light of day. I love Ankha, but she often ends up being overlooked in favor of Magria.

It's one of those things where, if I know we're getting another 5 stable slots next expansion, I don't want to let the spirit beasts go because of what they are-- rare, unique finds, that I spent many hours seeking/hunting/camping. That being said, maybe I should let them go in favor of having some other pets that would get used. I do miss my Ashtail.

I'd like an even 30, but I'm content with 25.
