Hunter dps rather lackluster?

I took part in killing the Darkmoon Rabbit and the top three in damage for the just over 6 minute fight were all Hunters with me at #3 in all quest gear except for two Justice pieces. My bow is green. I think Hunters are fine.

And you think that alone is enough to say with certainty that hunters are completely fine??

It's certainly an indication that they are competitive at the least.

I don't take world raid bosses as a factor towards ranked dps simply because of frame rate issues. When you have 40 people spamming aoe on multiple mobs my frame rate which sits at a nice 40fps drops to 2during those encounters.

Well, then the fact that Hunters were top three on the Darkmoon Rabbit should mean even more.

How so? They're range. That rabbit hops all over the place and for melee with <10fps, it's not so easy to gauge where as a hunter with the exact dps doesn't have to try to run after it. You can queue up attacks even with low fps, but for melee it won't do you any good if its not in range.

Plus we had far fewer than 40. ^_^

Hunter in quest gear(only 2 heroic pieces) on the last boss with the giant bug, he was hitting about 50k+. Hunters are definitely fine and there's a lot of information it seems from this thread alone to support that.

When information from raids from hunters in raid gear is posted in this thread then I'll agree we're fine. I don't think we're bottom of the barrel but we need some tweaking with focus regen and/or cobra shot cast time. Esp since I don't think it's even possible to hit haste plateaus in current gear. Hopefully no hunters are reforging into haste for faster cobras. That would be a huge dps loss.

Definitely would. We might start raiding tomorrow in my guild so if we get anyhunters, I'll watch them. And I think we did have a few stuff posted involving raiding hunters that are pulling 73k dps.

Personally I would go by femaledwarf which I think is better than Mr. Robot. I have tried Mr. Robot twice and both times my dps dropped considerably going by what it said. It values Haste far too highly unless you're MM specced.

Haste especially tends to be overvalued in simulations since in movement fights the abilities affected by haste are the first to be reduced in frequency. Also the effects of stacking abilities are mostly not simulated, most procs and cooldowns are averaged over the course of the fight (with the exception of haste cooldowns and procs which are mostly applied directly to the simulated shot breakdown), whereas during a fight you can get better results with proper stacking of bonuses. So don't take the results as a gospel, but rather as a guide that gives you an idea of what direction to go.

Use both and your own gut is the best way. Right now i am going with mr. robot. There are 3 reforges my gut tells me to not listen too (the crit reforge to haste).

I put it in femaledwarf and i get a extra 100 dps or so...which is nothing at 42K + dps unraid buff. I do hate the long cobra shots and the focus problems once every thing is on CD. So i am sticking with the haste for the short term. More testing will be needed.


Regarding our overall DPS, time will tell when more logs gets posted and more information is available on where we are. Hopefully, Blizzard will not nerf/buff anything until a lot more information is available. They failed to realize at the beginning of cata surv scale badly and nerfed it out of the gates.


After doing some arena this week, i do think a pvp nerf will be incoming. Probably just the removal of stampede from arena.

Maybe I'm just talking as a marks hunter, but I'm not feeling focus starved as BM. I'm popping instants like crazy and don't have to cobra shot as often as all that. I'm definitely in the 40-somethings, even at my lowest, and that's just in PvP gear really (my PvE gear fell behind on enchants and such, so I haven't been swapping) - and that means I'm not even hit/exp capped.

I haven't been monitoring very closely, as you can probably tell, but I will do so once I've gotten my things in order.

I advise you to PVP as BM and enjoy being OP why it last. Also...i am assuming its just a typo but i hope you are not using cobra shot as MM.

or every one else was afk...or melee were not chasing the bunny. When i went there as level 85 I starting autoshooting the bunny and went and made lunch. That's the world of pugs for you.

And just to be clear, when I did it cross realm some hunter from another server made a level 1 toon on my server to brag about out dpsing me, using all sort of vulgarity. Still trying to figure out the correlation between my DPS and sexuality. So i challenged him to a 5 man dps duel (it was end of xpac and i was bored) ..well after out DPS him by 35k (i was in heroic gear he was in normal) on the first boss he quickly ninja left the dungeon and took me off realid.


So the fact that hunters are out dpsing other classes in a causal nature tells me nothing. Its the raid and pvp setting that nerfs/buffs and right now we need more information. More logs. More people raiding. We will know in a month or two.

well maybe a bit more after LFR this week.

I am generally last on the dps charts these days as Hm. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have checked my rotation, reforged, etc. I still need gear and enchants, but there has to be something else I'm missing. I am frustrated.

I am BM currently, for everything. BM is so ridiculously OP right now that it's silly not to be.

My experience is as a marks hunter, which is how I've been approaching my rotation as BM - priority shots. That's what I meant in the original post.

I did my first LFR today at the cutoff 460 ilvl (and BM) -- was doing really well on damage. Was kind of lower on the quilen statues, I assume because that fight favors classes that can really cleave and multi-dot (I could have serpent sting refreshed everything but I'm not really... yeah) but #4 on Feng and #1 on Gara'jal.

Now, granted, Gara'jal has that spirit world mechanic and I suspect I was one of the very few people utilizing it, especially since we started dropping like flies at the end from add damage! But yeah, even at a lower ilvl I'm feeling pretty good about my damage output. That's also considering I'm not fully enchanted and gemmed and reforged yet. I think I only did my hit and exp cap for now.
(er, woops, I'm not even exp capped yet, I guess I switched a piece out since I was. WELL.)

I did LFR today too and Im pretty content with my damage. Was 8th on the first boss in damage (random hunter was first that fight and then did terrible the rest of the fights lol), 6th on the 2nd boss ( died around 20%), and 1st on the last boss though like Neilaren said Im sure I was one of the few people using the totems as well.

Every class was around the same damage on the first 2 fights.

(Got 2 of the same belts from the last boss because I accidentally used my extra roll >.< )

Personally I couldn't care less about the PvP side. I'm only concerned with PvE and from all indications BM Hunters are fine. I will say that MM is lagging however.

In my femaledwarf sims, MM is behind BM by 10k and trails SV by 4k. This is in my current gear reforged for 5 man heroics with no buffs other than what my pet provides. When you start applying Raid buffs, BM gets even further in front. Yes, it's only a sim of perfect conditions but it still provides an indication that MM needs some tweaking.
