I hope this thread isn't becoming an argument instead of a place to discuss ideas/opinions/thoughts

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of flying altogether if they opened up a system like very many other open world adventures, such as map fast traveling from games like Skyrim or Fallout or something like WPs instead of FPs like in GW2. We can adventure on foot and keep the immersion, but on the other hand we'll also be able to get around quickly if we need to. Perhaps even faster than if we had flying mounts.
Re: Flying in WoD
I think you'll find we agree actually. I think it's a great idea to keep everyone, even max level people, grounded during the main leveling phase (for 4-6 months until 6.1ish). And I'm in favor of pockets of grounding, or context related grounding. As I've described. But there are people who are QQing that everyone has to be grounded on the whole continent the whole expansion. And they characterize people who point out the problems with that as ragequitters. I can only speak for myself, but whether or not there's permagrounding will go into my decision on if I buy WoD. I want to buy it, but I'm looking at having to invest hundreds of dollars in a new system to enjoy it fully. And I am familiar with my playstyle and what kind of restrictions would really hamper it. I'm not talking about flying past mobs to an objective. I'm talking about sidetracking to do other interesting stuff while I'm out and about. I'm much more likely to get bored if the game becomes "taxi/portal directly to site, do stuff there, you're done". I was during the Argent Tournament patch, and there even was flying then (just not of other stuff to do), and I quit for a year. Not ragequit, boredomquit. And if a boredomquit is probable, then I'm not going to invest in a new system (which will feed back into not being as interested, without the new graphics).Castile wrote:No they don't need to fly but it makes it easier to swoop in and take something you've fought umpteen mobs to get to. And i wouldn't call it "pro grounding QQ" more like people that understood what Blizzard wanted to acheive with no flying and won't quit the game in a huff if we don't get our way. Don't get me wrong I'm all for it eventually being available but I think there needs to be a decent gap and/or phased areas where you can't fly so content doesn't become trivial. I mean how boring would finding all the chests on the TI be if you could just fly up there and get them?Xota wrote:TI style content ages too fast. I don't think it justifies grounding everyone on a continent for the entire expansion. And a max level character doesn't need flying in order to camp a spot. I'm glad they haven't yet caved to the immense pro-grounding QQ. Flying being eventually available in many areas opens up more options in types of content.Slickrock wrote:The key thing is that they wanted to introduce TI style content across Deanor. Their vision of that required no flying.
But the immense QQ is such that they are going to have to retrofit or remove that content as a result. Theykve done a bit of that already in making some of the rares one-time-only.
I can't see them doing the fixes suggested here just to get around allowing flying. They are behind schedule already. Stuff will just get removed, or leveling characters will be screwed because a lvl 100 is hovering over and camping a spot. Just like the Crystal of Insanity in Valley of Four Winds, or the fishing charm.
It's not a threat or ultimatum. It's something I have to consider. And boredomquits is something Blizzard has to consider.
ps: when you clear umpteen mobs in order to get to an objective, someone can just ride up behind you on their ground mount, through the area you've cleared. If they're camping it, then you won't even be clearing the umpteen mobs (since they will be there first). Frankly, I'd rather that occasionally someone else is camping a rare spawn I'm also interested in (which are actually being turned into vignettes) than for a bunch of griefers to camp flight points.
pps: finding all the chests on timeless isle wasn't that exciting.

Yes, they should quit if they dont like the challenges of their own choice.Slickrock wrote:Are you seriously saying people who like the immersion should screw themselves if everyone else can fly?pop wrote: That's a win win situation. Guys and Gals, please keep it a little less personal and argumentative.

Personally speaking, I'm all for there being no flight available until a later patch. Sure, I've grown accustomed to flying as much as anyone else, but I think it's nice to be grounded for a little while. It makes the world seem bigger, you can appreciate the scenery more, and so on. Though I can understand why it's a detriment to some considering it makes things take longer, it draws out farming for mats, etc... etc... Not so good for people who have limited playtime.
I thought there was some mention about doing quick travel between your garrison and various outposts? I might have been imagining things but I'm sure Blizzard isn't completely deaf to peoples' complaints about a lack of flying and quick transportation in Draenor. If I recall correctly, I think they also expressed their mixed feelings on making flying a thing in the first place. I'm fine with them experimenting a little to see what they can come up with.
That said, I'm fine with taking the time to smell the roses for a half a patch or so.
