They better not unflag the rat. I will be so justifiably mad if they do. Do your part and DON'T report it as a bug. It ain't a bug!

I don’t think it’s a bug. 99% of them are critters, there’s one small area with roaches and these rats, which come in brown and black, are flagged tameable. I doubt they’ll make them untameable, we have rock mice so they’ll stay

I think that if 99% of them in Undermine are critters and there is one that isn’t, that would probably indicate that it is a bug and not intended.

I did more testing and exploring. As for tameable beasts, undermine is lacking, only having mostly normal hyenas, one tameable armored one, and the tameable rat. I spotted some eels in the water area, but they’re not tameable, which is typical. When I got to the new area in zuldazar, there were attackable mechanical parrots, both small and large, though not tameable, it would be a great opportunity to let us tame those. I also tested marksman, the eagle only appears during a few abilities, so marksman hunters are true lone wolves now, they get a straight up lust button, and that’s all I gotta say. I think the pet spec changing makes up for the lack of upcoming tames

Edit - unfortunately the parrots are only there during a questing phase for undermine

God yes, at least one of those darn things are tameable. Now for the taming pass to make the other handful of bomb crabs to be flagged.

Yeah, a lot of the crabs and hyenas aren't flagged. Clearly we haven't had a taming pass, what with it being day one and all, but still. There's time for the devs to do the right thing. There's plenty of time for them to flag more of our giggling goons and pinching partners. Though, while I do like big pets, I feel the bomb crabs should shrink just a smidge. Only reason I say that is because these things are BULBOUS. I can see them blocking clickables so very easily.

Friend and I tamed George, a unique crab. There's five crystals between him and the Kaja'mite mine out in Zul'dazar. You gotta click all five crystals and rush to George to tame him before the buff falls off. Mystery solved!

If the rat is intended, then cool. But given the history of the model it seems unlikely, though 🤷‍♂️ But we'll see soon enough if it stays. Whichever way it goes, do not encourage people to stay silent on possible bugs or unintended tames. At least not on these forums. And especially since developers read these forums and will be aware of them anyway. If they stay, they stay.

So glad to see the kaja'mite shale spiders in already! 💛 I've had a soft spot for that model (and its adorable 'squeeee' as it runs in to battle) ever since Cata. So glad there's a new colour.

The bomb crab was a surprise, since I initially thought it looked a bit low res in the model viewer, but it looks not too bad in your screenshots, so hopefully it's intended.

Is pet spec switching in yet? I only just got home from work and my client updater has been in "initializing" phase for ages :/

I *need* to level my Gobo hunter asap. The amount of things for myy Gobo! But I'm still salty about not being allowed to fly in the zone. IDC about race cars, I want to be able to fly in the open world regardless if I can or cannot ride the race cars.

BTW, not sure if this has made it to any patch notes yet (I can't find any), but one piece of info I do have is that the 'trick' required for taming panthara is being removed! 🥳

I'm all for a clever and fun taming trick, but that one was always buggy and time consuming. You could spend an hour just to get a piece of meat and then have it fail to work for no clear reason :/ It needed to go.

Are there any other taming tricks that are particularly bad now? Like, Legion taming tomes locked behind enormous chains?

I excitedly went to check that first thing today and it is!!! It's real!!! I was trying not to get my hopes up in case we were just misreading the patch notes somehow and it was really just some feature meant for the MM changes, but they genuinely gave us pet talent choices again (albeit only at a Stable Master apparently, so you can't do it on the go, but hey I'll take it!) I posted screenshots on the other thread about Pet specs somewhere

This probably doesn't count as a trick tame, but recently on a new alt I created I realized how frustrating some of the zoning issues are like Molten Front, where the rares just don't even start their spawn timers until people are populating the area long enough, which is -never- for content that old unless someone is intentionally camping for a tame.

At the end of the day, camping out for a rare isn't that hard or unheard of I suppose, but I just feel the way those timers work and the way the zone phases are implemented with this active/inactive thing is a bit detrimental to really old content that includes rare tames.

@ First Wain post:
Regarding the rat and bomb crab, I really do hope they don't Fun Police us. These were very clearly things players wanted, and I know one person who is absolutely brimming with happiness for the rat. Would hate to see him lose all that happiness. The bomb crab isn't THAT low res in the game either; I play on absolute max settings at 1080p, and unless I am zoomed in, there's barely zero evidence of it being low resolution. At a passing glance, it looks perfectly normal, which also surprised me. I was worried it'd lose quality when scaled up, but surprisingly it looked great. Better than some extremely low-resolution pets that were critter models scaled up (coughpandariagrubscough).

@ Second Wain Post:
Excuse the language, but HELL YEAH GOOD RIDDANCE. Taming panthara was the worst. I hate grinding out that meat, so this is an absolutely welcome change. As for other taming tricks, I do think that after 2~ expansions, gated tames like feathermane, undead, direhorn, and so on should just be applied to the account. Most of them already do apply at the account level, so there's really no reason to leave them in. In the current expansion, those methods are fine, but several years later? Ain't it, chief. Lesser Dragonkin should be the only one that still requires a little grind right now, only because it's still somewhat fresh. After TWW though? Just apply it globally for everyone who still doesn't have it. Also, make every unlock account-wide. Aren't some of them still per character? That's dumb if so. At the very least, make everything account-wide unlocked. I don't know what isn't, if any, but I'd be annoyed if I put in the work on my main only for an alt to not be able to tame things I earned the right to tame.

I fully agree with Veph on the Molten Front rares. Those rares not spawning unless someone is there is just kinda dumb. Regular timers are fine, requiring participation in well content over a decade old just to enable spawns isn't.

I won’t hide my rat it’s not a big deal if it gets removed or not, it’s good that we get a normal rodent in the family in this case a normal rat with no glows or spines or fins, just a rat, which would fit well with some hunter themes. I remember a few years ago when I first found tameable rock mice, I didn’t think they’d be our pets despite being a critter model with nice scaling, the size of the rat is also perfect when tamed. I think of them as a giant rat in a back alley. As for the bomb crab, I’m not usually a fan of crabs, but man I love that bomb crab, it’s a mechanical pet I’m unsure if it should change families, but if it stays, it would make a great defensive pet for solo content, since spec switching will be a thing again, I’m all for this crab to stay mechanical lol. As for the quest phase parrots, I hope they flag them tameable and add more npcs with these models since they’d make great mechanicals for the family, as for armored hyenas, I’ve spotted a few more colors, one color which is brown with yellow armor is a attackable npc pet which is untameable, and I found black hyenas with red armor, but friendly and in cages. I hope they add more variants to that one armored hyena, more of undermine is filled with normal hyenas than armored ones

Yeah, most of Undermine feels a tad underwhelming in the pet department. There's a lot that could be done here, but many areas feel empty and/or underused. For example, the hyenas could be more numerous as pets to all the random neutral goblins we can attack. The lake near the Gallagio could have regular crabs, bomb crabs, crocolisks, and maybe some birds (also make those new eels tameable oh my god I just saw them). The golf course DESPERATELY needs crocolisks, because it's not a golf course without a nasty ball-stealing croc. There's definitely more thematic things I could list, but as I said, the zone feels rather devoid of life. Definitely needs something sprinkled in, even if it's reused models. Obviously, newer stuff would be ideal, but still.

Another Armored Hyena has been found. it's the brown with yellow armor, it's name is Heckler, and it's from the story quest "punching up", he is paulie's pet, looks like the same one i saw yesterday, either he is different, or he got flagged tameable today, he is only available during the riot phase of the storyline, so it's a pet you can only tame once
