Oh, that's really sad, even though I released my Haarka last night to tame an oil-covered wolf (I really liked the brain bug model but Haarka was my only pet without the emotional bond, so he had to go). I kind of hoped for more stable slots prior to Cata to retame him.

Don't worry. I am sure Blizzard does it solely for rescaling. I mean, I am a hundred percent sure they wanted to give Haarka and Soriid and mayhaps others too, different models. It was their intention, now they can do a few things to the current Haarka/Soriid holders. They can change the model ID of the pets to a normal silithid ( it could be that the beta Haarka/Soriid is still a brainbug model while the pet is a normal silithid, in which case it means game over), they could wholly remove the model, therefore the pets and Haarka and Soriid's new model while they roam around in the wild. Ooooor it could be that it was all their intention and they are taking their good time to rescale the pet to a proper size, I mean -- look at the loading screen size of Soriid and you just should agree. I love big pets, I am on my way for the Sholazar Wasp which is by itself pretty big aswell, but this. Soriid and Haarka are just both way too big. Who knows, soon enough maybe we are in for a whole treat. First thing I would check now if I was you are the models of the wild Haarka and Soriid.

Sorry if I am overly optimistic but I really don't think Blizzard would remove those models, it's obvious it was their intention to give them that model and I feel the other rares are going to go swell up too soon. You don't just accidently give two mobs a model which in Haarka's case even fits with his former color on the SAME kind of pet family, unlike the pet Wolfsnake or something. I'm still gonna wager and say; ''Grunter the Helboar and Soriid and Haarka were intentionally granted that skin'' in which case Grunter is already confirmed.

THERE. That's it

EDIT: What's funny is that WoWhead now DOES list Soriid as a brainbug. Whilst last build it did not O_O

It was definitely intentional that the two rares received the new models in Cataclysm, however those rares were then flagged as untameable. It was not intentional that people would find a way to transform their current pets into those by transferring to the beta.

Who knows, maybe they are still supposed to be tamable, just the resizing wasn't done. Can't blame Blizzard tbh. There is just not much else to protest, no lore reasons for it to not be tamable. As said, I am very optimistic about it and not doom and gloomy at all so I still have my bets on next build(s) for it to return. Just you wait and see! Pessimists! My prediction shall prevail!!!!

Pessimist reporting for duty. I seriously don't think Blizz is doing this one by accident. To much lines up.
No one has it, someone gets it, hunters go crazy over it, videos are made about it, talked about on forums, several tamings then copy over to beta, latest patch ................ GONE. Hhhhmmm let me think. May be a pessimistic view but I don't think it's a rescaling of size.
The system was cheated in sense and Blizz never takes to kindly of that. So problem solved and they're back to 'normal'.

I went and tamed them both to in the hopes that it would stick. But alas it's clear that's not going to happen.

This is going to sound harsh (but it's really not meant that way) this is why this should have been kept as quiet as possible. Not secret per say but surely not have received the press it got and the removal is why.
Again, not trying to sound harsh or point fingers. :) <-- smile to show not meant harshly

I really hope it's a scaling issue as said. But I doubt it.

Even if we dont get them, at least we helped Blizz make Cata just a lil bit better by finding a bug of sorts. heh (Terrible play on words, i know)

Well, I might keep Haarka around just because I don't have an urge to go out and tame anything else. The black armoured boar and red lnyx will be around in Cata, so, no rush. But, as I said, if I find Loq', then Sorrid is gone.

But it wouldn't really surprise me if come Cata those of us that held onto Sorrid or Haarka suddenly have properly scaled brain bug pets.

Who knows...

Anyone seen Loq'?...

I think it is gonna be the new Spirit Wolf/Ooze/Hydra/Ghost Croco as in that it will come back and the hunters that tamed it on live will keep it but it will be untamable in Cata. Really, name a lore reason for it not to be tamable aside from the huge brain. Which is limited to Buru only because Buru isn't a Silithid, Buru is a Qiraji, those two are different. Alas. NO reason at all. So I'll stay optimistic for once and keep both bugs. Especially Soriid which will fit great with my Striker's Garb.

And IF it stays untamable and the model is gone, then I made this for you hunters who will mourn him (including me) AND you! Yes you! Stupid Blizzard, for making Pirate-Haarka sad ( :( )! *shakes fist in anger* Leave Haarka alone! He only wanted someone to accompany him!

I am hoping these go live, and even better would be them being tamable come cata!

Head out to where Soriid and Haarka used to spawn (the surface of the silithid hives in Tanaris)

The brain bugs are still there, they have new names now though :)

Found old Soriid and Haarka deep under the hives too

New names and they have a diet... I'm surprised you didn't beast lore them. Soriid's new name has something to do with exotics, so, take a look for yourself. =)

I posted a screen-shot in my thread for you guys and I'll throw another one in here so nobody is left out of the loop.

I think that's the final confirmation, Sorrid and Haarka are back to their original forms. Done, game over, move along, nothing to see here...

If secrecy was what would have saved this pet, then it was doomed to begin with, as the way it was discovered for the most part was in the Totalbiscuit cata video. Totalbiscuit even stops and points out the pet. His videos are very widely watched, so there was no way we were gonna be able to keep it a secret.

Also, I'm sure blizz developers knew from the get-go that when they changed the skins on the rare spawn silthids, that those who already had these as pets would have to have their models fixed.

I'm fairly certain that if blizzard had intended anyone to keep these as pets, then they would have just kept them as tameable :<

I like to keep hoping and providing updates to other people that like to keep hoping. :3

Edit- Confirmed that the original creatures are back. I have mixed feelings about that but I'm happy to see that they at least gave us those two back instead of entirely cutting the rares off and turning them into untamable Colossus if it indeed turns out to be permanent.
