I just watched on MSNBC news last night that WalMart is being given a heavy fine for improper disposal of toxic waste. Way to go WalMart!

That site posted earlier has some really strange Wal-Mart stories. Oddly enough, the Wal-Mart near where I live seems downright orderly. But then again, latest I've been there is like 8 PM or so.

You've also got to keep in mind that'll vary from area to area. The store I worked at was orderly on the outside, but the power structure was absolute crap. The managers did everything they could to squeeze every last bit they could from people, even going so far as to refuse time and a half for over time if it 'wasn't their fault', and the entire store 'cycled' employees. They'd hire a batch during the summer, and then slowly weed them all out over the course of the next year and a half or so. Since Sylva is a college town, they always had fresh blood and they knew it, and they ride that pony like it's nobodies buisness. Then at either your first or second raise, they find some excuse and fire you. For me, my first pay raise was a half a year late, despite my pestering. And then when the time came, they dug through my files. That was fun, let me tell you. Now, let me tell you procedure. Procedure is to bring people up on things they've done wrong when they've FIRST done them, and talk to them. You school them, and then you monitor them. A second offense leads to a suspension, and a third leads to termination. I had NEVER, EVER been schooled before. But one day ((And this was just after they'd finally told me they were going to review me for a raise)) manager Mitchel ((Whom hated me)) took me into the back and brought up an.....interesting list.

The first item on the list was a lady who had adamantly declared that the things she were buying could be bought more cheaply elsewhere. Well, without proof I needed a CSM to assist me. So I turned on my light and waited. And waited. And waited. For ten minutes. I know we've all waited in line at Wal-Mart, and it's no fun. So I finally just repriced them for her, and when a CSM did finally get to me, I told her what happened. She noted it, and that was that. But apparently, that was a big no no on my part. That one I understand. Next up was the FUN stuff. My cash drawer. I counted, and counted, and recounted my drawer every night. I had other people count my drawer. I'd insist on counting my drawer before breaks. And yet some how, even when I came up perfectly right, my drawer would go short when it got to the back. So at this point, even though SEVERAL CSM's had vouched for me. Manager Mitchel blatantly accused me of stealing. Now remember the three strike rule! I had never been schooled before. But Mitchel very calmly stated he wasn't even going to bother. He then says "I'll need your vest and your badge. Why don't you consider this a learning experience?" And I slammed them down and said "Why don't you kiss my ass?"

God I hated that place. I'm not a model employee by any means, but I'm not a bad one either. And to accuse me of stealing? Ugh.

This reminds me of why I finally quit working for "Wally World". At the time I got divorced and full custody of my daughter I was working 3rd shift (10pm-7am). I spent 4 months begging, pleading, and everythign else I could think of to be moved to the morning shift. Every time I asked I was told it would happen as soon as there was an opening. I applied for every morning position that came open and was denied. 4 months I went through spending barely any time with my daughter, expencive babysitter fees, plus all the BS from managers that thought Mars was between the Earth and the Moon.

I hate wal-mart as well. Back when Hun was looking for work he had the 2 hour interview process that required you to take a "test". He basically passed with flying colors except for the whole marijuana cigarette question. After that whole fiasco thing he told them that he preferred to keep looking for work elsewhere. The manager was our neighbor at the time and knew our situation too. He was understanding of our choices but might have been put off by the refusal.

Noways I would not willingly shop there because of their ethics but we still do not have a choice with the prices everywhere being outragous.

There are several stoers in the US that are cheaper. Food Lion, Buylow, Aldi, Walgreens, Target, and Harp's just to name a few.

Depends on the area. The Target near us is more expensive than the Wal-Mart, the Walgreens is through-the-roof, and I don't know the other stores.

Yea, same here. Wal-Mart is cheaper then most of the local stores in NC, and it has in fact driven several buisnesses to ruin.

Well, what do you expect? From what I've read, they hardly pay their workers, they threaten their manufactorers, and they are overall unhealthy competition.

The only reason I go to Wal-Mart is the simple reason of I have no choice. Whatever store my mom goes to, I go to (seeing as I'm only 14, 15 June 1st).

The people there are... downright creepy.
Much rather go to Safeway.
(Mostly for their chicken and rice bowls, but still. >->)

Almost everything can be used as drugs. Trust me on this.
Nail polish remover is renowned for making meth...
On its own, nail polish remover contains Toluine and anybody who has ever worked with formica can tell you, a couple mins of breathing it can make you pretty loopy. Now lets watch the rush of people looking to become cabinetmakers!

LOL...on a similar note, has anybody else gotten the "Wall-Martians" emails? I think they scoured the country to bring the pics of the more "unusual" customers. Pretty sure a few of them are from Long Island too.
